DESCRIPTION

If a malfunction in the power source circuit occurs or when a malfunction in communication with the skid control ECU or in a speed sensor occurs, the 4WD control ECU will prohibit operations using a fail-safe function (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM ).

  1. CHECK DTC Clear the DTC (See «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-235567-S06361715992006062400000) ). Turn the engine switch on (IG) and check that no CAN communication system DTC is output. Start the engine.   7. REPLACE 4WD CONTROL ECU

If a malfunction in the speed sensor signal circuit occurs, the 4WD control ECU will output this DTC.

When slip is detected based on signals sent from the 4 wheel speed sensors, the 4WD control ECU controls torque distribution between front and rear wheels according to the amount of slip.

  1. The 4WD control ECU determines that the vehicle is turning based on the signal sent from the steering angle sensor.
  2. The steering angle sensor signal is sent to the 4WD control ECU via the CAN communication system.
  3. The 4WD control ECU detects the amount of steering wheel movement and performs "slip control at vehicle start up", according to the amount of movement, and "slip control" to secure high turning performance.

Turn the engine switch on (IG) and check that no CAN communication system DTC is output. Start the engine. Drive the vehicle and turn the steering wheel to the right and left at a speed of 24 mph (35 km/h) and check if brake control system DTC (C1231/31) and/or a CAN communication system DTC are output (See «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-235572-S29290517502006062400000) ). HINT: The 4WD control ECU acquires steering angle sensor zero point every time the engine switch is turned on (IG) and vehicle is driven at 24 mph (35 km/h) or more for approximately 5 seconds. The ECU stores the previous zero point. Select the "DATA LIST" on the intelligent tester (See «DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST»(ref-235567-S41947801432006062400000) ).   1. The 4WD control ECU inputs the signals sent from the ECM, skid control ECU, and steering angle sensor via the CAN communication system.
  2. When DTCs indicating a CAN communication system malfunction are output, repair the CAN communication system before repairing each corresponding sensor.

  5. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (See Step 5 in «REMOVAL»(/lexus/is/ii-2005-2008/remont/exhaust/#exhaust-4gr-fse__removal) )
  6. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (See Step 2 in «REMOVAL»(/lexus/is/ii-2005-2008/remont/driveshaft-universal-joints/#propeller-shaft) )
  7. REMOVE FLANGE YOKE Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the nut. SST 09930-00010 NOTE: Be sure to use the SST with the tapered surface facing the shaft. Do not grind the tip of the SST with a grinder or other device. Completely loosen the staked part of the nut when removing it. Do not damage the threads of the output shaft. Using SST, hold the flange yoke. SST 09330-00021, 09213-54015 Using a deep socket wench (30 mm), remove the nut. Remove the flange yoke from the transfer assembly.
  8. REMOVE TRANSFER CASE FRONT OIL SEAL Using SST, remove the oil seal. SST 09308-00010
  9. INSTALL TRANSFER CASE FRONT OIL SEAL Using SST and a hammer, install a new oil seal. SST 09316-60011 (09316-00011, 09316-00071) Oil seal installation depth: 5.6 to 6.2 mm (0.220 to 0.244 in.) Apply MP grease to the oil seal lip.
  10. INSTALL FLANGE YOKE Install the flange yoke to the transfer assembly. Using SST, hold the flange yoke. SST 09213-54015, 09330-00021 Using a deep socket wench (30 mm), torque a new nut. Torque: 123 N*m (1,250 kgf*cm, 91 ft.*lbf) Using a chisel and hammer, stake the nut.
