HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING

The intelligent tester can be used in steps 3 , 4 , 5 , 7 and 11 .

  1. PERFORM LINE PRESSURE TEST Measure the line pressure. HINT: Perform the test at the normal operating ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) temperature: 50 to 80°C (122 to 176°F). The line pressure test should always be performed in pairs. One technician should observe the conditions of the wheels or wheel chocks outside the vehicle while the other is performing the test. Be careful to prevent SST hose from interfering with the exhaust pipe. This check must be performed after ensuring that the engine is running properly. Perform this test while the A/C is OFF. When performing the stall test, do not continue more than 5 seconds. Warm up the ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid). Lift the vehicle up. Remove the test plug on the transfer case and connect the SST. SST 09992-00095 (09992-00231, 09992-00271) Lower the vehicle. Fully apply the parking brake and chock the 4 wheels. Start the engine and check idling speed. Keep your left foot pressing the brake pedal firmly and move the shift lever to the D position. Measure the line pressure when the engine is idling. Depress the accelerator pedal all the way down. Read the highest line pressure as quickly as possible when the engine speed reaches stall speed. In the same manner, perform the test with the shift lever in the R position.   2. PERFORM CENTER DIFFERENTIAL OPERATING HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TEST Measure the center differential operating hydraulic pressure. HINT: Perform the test at the normal operating ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) temperature: 50 to 80°C (122 to 176°F). The line pressure test should always be performed in pairs. One technician should observe the conditions of the wheels or wheel chocks outside the vehicle while the other is performing the test.   2. ACTIVE TEST OF 4WD CONTROL

HINT

Performing the ACTIVE TEST using the intelligent tester allows the relay, actuator, etc. to operate without removing any parts. Performing the ACTIVE TEST as the first step in troubleshooting is one way to shorten labor time. It is possible to display the DATA LIST during the ACTIVE TEST.

  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
  2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
  3. Following the display on the intelligent tester, select "ACTIVE TEST".

  1. CHECK TIRE CONDITION Check the size and condition of all 4 tires (See «INSPECTION»(ref-235571-S20728357352006062400000) ). HINT: This DTC is output when tire deformation or a difference in tire size is detected. OK: The diameter and air pressure of all 4 tires are the same. NG: REPLACE TIRES SO THAT ALL 4 TIRES ARE THE SAME SIZE A: Go To Next Step
  2. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3. Start the engine. Select the "DATA LIST" on the intelligent tester (See «DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST»(ref-235567-S41947801432006062400000) ). Check that the speed values detected at all four wheels displayed on the intelligent tester are the same when driving the vehicle. HINT

When DTCs indicating a CAN communication system malfunction are output, repair the CAN communication system before repairing each corresponding sensor.

  1. INSPECT TRANSFER WIRE Disconnect the transfer wire connector. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in «RESISTANCE SPECIFIED CONDITION TABLE»(ref-235567-S31902366582006062400000) .

  1. INSTALL TRANSFER WIRE Coat the transfer wire O-ring with ATF. Install the transfer wire with the bolt. Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf) Connect the 2 transfer wire connectors to the transfer control solenoid. Install the transfer upper valve body with the 4 bolts. Torque: 9.8 N*m (100 kgf*cm, 87 in.*lbf)
  2. INSTALL TRANSFER OIL PAN Install the transfer oil cleaner magnet to the transfer oil pan. Remove all residual FIPG material from the contact surfaces using gasoline or alcohol. Apply seal packing to the transfer chain case front (Scheme 41) Seal packing: Part No. 08826-00090, THREE BOND or equivalent Temporarily tighten the 9 bolts in several steps, and then tighten them to the specified torque. Torque: 7.4 N*m (75 kgf*cm, 65 in.*lbf)
  3. INSTALL TRANSFER DYNAMIC DAMPER Install the transfer dynamic damper with the 2 bolts. Torque: 52 N*m (530 kgf*cm, 38 ft.*lbf)
  4. INSTALL ENGINE REAR MOUNTING MEMBER Install the engine rear mounting member with the 4 bolts and 3 nuts. Torque: 26 N*m (265 kgf*cm, 19 ft.*lbf) (Bolt) 38 N*m (387 kgf*cm, 28 ft.*lbf) (Nut)
  5. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR (See Step 3 in «INSTALLATION»(ref-235561-S12063571302006062400000) )

  1. INSTALL 4WD CONTROL ECU Connect the connector and clamp to the 4WD control ECU. Install the 4WD control ECU with the bolt and nut. Torque: Bolt 14 N*m (137 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf) Nut 6.0 N*m (61 kgf*cm, 54 in.*lbf) Connect the junction connector with the 2 clips.
