DESCRIPTION

The speed sensor detects wheel speed and sends the appropriate signals to the skid control ECU. These signals are used for the ABS control system. This speed sensor contains a sensor IC, which consists of 2 MREs (Magnetic Resistance Element). The speed sensor rotor, which consists of 48 sets of N and S poles that are arranged in a circle, is integrated with the inner race of the hub bearing.

To detect the rotation direction, the output waves are used to determine the relationship of the pulses that are generated by 2 MREs. Upon receiving this signal, the sensor IC outputs a forward or backward wave to the ECU.

DTCs C1271/71 and C1272/72 can be deleted when the speed sensor sends a vehicle speed signal or the Test Mode ends. DTCs C1271/71 and C1272/72 are output only in the Test Mode.

At a vehicle speed of 18 mph (30 km/h) or more, one wheel direction is different from the other 3 wheels' for 1 second. At a vehicle speed of 60 mph (100 km/h), a reverse signal is output for 1 second or more. At a vehicle speed of 18 mph (30 km/h) or more, the rotation direction of the one of the wheels is not detected normally and the rotation direction of the other 3 wheels is not the same for 1 second. With the IG1 terminal voltage 9.5 V or more, the sensor power supply voltage decreases for 0.5 seconds or more. If a DTC of the motor line is stored, the ABS MOTOR1 (fail safe) relay cuts off the power supply to the ABS MOTOR2 relay and performs fail safe.

While any of the ABS, TRAC, VSC, or BA is operating, the skid control ECU (housed in the actuator assembly) turns the ABS MOTOR2 relay on and activates the pump motor in the brake actuator. This code may be stored if the motor relay (+BM) voltage becomes lower than the DTC detecting condition due to insufficient output from the battery or alternator.

A: USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK

The ABS solenoid relay supplies power to the ABS solenoid and TRAC solenoid.

The solenoid relay is turned on 1.5 seconds after the engine switch is turned on (IG), and is turned off if an open or short in the solenoid is detected by self diagnosis performed when the vehicle starts running. The ABS solenoid relay is housed in the skid control ECU in the actuator assembly.

If a speed signal of 4 mph (6 km/h) or more is input to the skid control ECU, with the engine switch on (IG) and the stop light switch off, the ECU performs self diagnosis of the motor and solenoid circuits.

The brake actuator assembly receives signals from the yaw rate and acceleration sensor via the CAN communication system.

The yaw rate sensor has the built in acceleration sensor and detects the vehicle's condition using 2 circuits (GL1, GL2). If there is trouble in the bus lines between the yaw rate and acceleration sensor and the CAN communication system, the DTCs U0123/62 (yaw rate sensor communication trouble) and U0124/95 (acceleration sensor communication trouble) are output.

The skid control ECU receives signals from the yaw rate and acceleration sensor via the CAN communication system.

The yaw rate sensor has a built in acceleration sensor and detects the vehicle's condition using 2 circuits (GL1, GL2).

If there is trouble in the bus lines between the yaw rate and acceleration sensor and the CAN communication system, the DTC U0123/62 (malfunction in CAN communication with the yaw rate sensor) and U0124/95 (malfunction in CAN communication with the acceleration sensor) are output.

These DTCs are also output when the calibration has not been completed.

DTCs C0371/71 and C1279/79 can be deleted when the yaw rate and acceleration sensor sends a yaw rate and/or acceleration signal or the Test Mode ends. DTCs C0371/71 and C1279/79 are output only in the Test Mode.

The speed sensor detects wheel speed and sends the appropriate signals to the skid control ECU. These signals are used for the ABS control system. This speed sensor contains a sensor IC, which consists of 2 MREs (Magnetic Resistance Element). The speed sensor rotor, which consists of 48 sets of N and S poles that are arranged in a circle, is integrated with the inner race of the hub bearing.

To detect the rotation direction, the output waves are used to determine the relationship of the pulses that are generated by 2 MREs. Upon receiving this signal, the sensor IC outputs a forward or backward wave to the ECU.

DTCs C1275/75 to C1278/78 can be deleted when the speed sensor sends a vehicle speed signal or the Test Mode ends. DTCs C1275/75 to C1278/78 are output only in the Test Mode.

If a malfunction is detected in the power supply circuit, the skid control ECU (housed in the actuator assembly) outputs the DTC and prohibits operation with the fail safe function.

The skid control ECU acquires steering angle sensor zero point every time the engine switch is turned on (IG) and the vehicle is driven at 22 mph (35 km/h) or more for approximately 5 seconds. The ECU also stores the previous zero point.

If front wheel alignment or steering wheel position is adjusted without disconnecting the negative battery terminal, or if yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point is not acquired after the adjustments have been completed, the skid control ECU detects the difference between the previous zero point and newly acquired zero point and outputs this DTC to indicate a poor adjustment.

Warning of the steering angle sensor zero point malfunction will be cancelled by turning the engine switch off.

  3. CHECK IF SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR IS SECURELY CONNECTED Check if the skid control ECU connector is securely connected. OK: The connector should be securely connected. NG: CONNECT CONNECTOR TO ECU CORRECTLY OK: Go To Next Step

  8. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY Reconnect the skid control ECU connector and the traction OFF switch connector (2WD only). Perform Active Test of the combination meter (meter CPU) using the intelligent tester (See «DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST»(ref-235585-S19725847032006062400000) ). OK: The SLIP indicator light turns on or off in accordance with the intelligent tester. HINT: If troubleshooting has been carried out according to the Problem Symptoms Table, refer back to the table and proceed to the next step before replacing the part (See «PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE»(ref-235572-S37298106412006062400000) ). The skid control ECU is connected to the combination meter via CAN and multiplex communications. The SLIP indicator blinks during VSC and/or TRAC operation. When the system fails, the SLIP indicator comes on to warn the driver (See TERMINALS OF ECU ). The SLIP indicator comes on when traction control is terminated by pressing the traction OFF switch (2WD only).

The skid control buzzer sounds while the accumulator pressure is abnormally low or when an abnormality causing low fluid pressure occurs, and then the VSC is activated.

In the Test Mode (signal check), a malfunction of the speed sensor that cannot be detected when the vehicle is stopped is detected while driving. Transition to the sensor check mode can be performed by connecting terminals TS and CG of the DLC3 and turning the engine switch from off to on (IG).
