Power Windows: Removal & Installation Lexus IS I

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

CAUTIONWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.

Removal

  1. Remove the front door trim panel. See DOOR TRIM PANEL (FRONT) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION under «POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK LID»(ref-154728) article under DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  2. Remove the front No. 2 speaker by disconnecting the 2 connectors and the 2 bolts. (Scheme 14)
  3. Remove the outside rear view mirror by disconnecting the connector and removing the bolt.
  4. Remove the front No. 1 speaker. Disconnect the connector. Using a drill bit of less than 4 mm (0.16 in.), drill out the rivet heads and remove the speaker. Gently and vertically put the drill to the rivet, and cut the rivet flanges. Even if the flange is taken off, continue drilling and push out remaining fragments with the drill. Using a vacuum cleaner, remove the drilled rivets and their metal shavings from the inside of the door.
  5. Remove the inside handle by removing the screw and disconnecting the 2 cables from the inside handle. (Scheme 15)
  6. Remove the service hole cover by removing the 2 screws and door trim bracket. (Scheme 16)
  7. Remove the front door inside panel plate by removing the 2 screws.
  8. Remove the No. 2 service hole cover (service hole plate) by removing the 2 screws.
  9. Remove the front door belt moulding. Remove a screw. Apply protective tape to the outer surface to keep the surface from being scratched. (Scheme 17)
  10. Remove the door glass. (Scheme 18) Open the door glass until the bolts appear in the service hole. Remove the 2 bolts and door glass. Pull the glass upward to remove it.
  11. Remove the window regulator. (Scheme 19) Disconnect the connector and disengage the clamps. Remove the 6 bolts and window regulator.
  12. Remove the window regulator motor. Place matchmarks on the window regulator motor bracket and regulator gear. Remove the 3 screws and motor.

Installation

  1. Install the window regulator motor. (Scheme 14) Align the matchmarks on the regulator motor bracket and regulator gear. Install the 3 screws. If having rotated the motor only, reset the motor. See «POWER WINDOW MOTOR (LIMIT SWITCH & PULSE SWITCH) RESET»(ref-154768-S13674738442003052300000) under ADJUSTMENTS.
  2. Install the window regulator with the 6 bolts. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-154768-S20195259862003052300000) table. Connect the connector and attach the clamps.
  3. Install the door glass. (Scheme 18) Put the door glass in the door panel carefully. Install the door glass with the 2 bolts to the window regulator. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-154768-S20195259862003052300000) table.
  4. Install the front door belt moulding with the screw. (Scheme 17)
  5. Install the No. 2 service hole cover with the 2 screws.
  6. Install the front door inside panel plate with the 2 screws.
  7. Install the service hole cover to the door panel. (Scheme 16) When installing the service hole cover, pull out the links and connectors through the service hole cover. There should be no wrinkles or folds after attaching the service hole cover. After attaching the service hole cover, sealing condition shall be confirmed. Install the door trim bracket with the 2 screws.
  8. Install the inside handle. Connect the 2 cables to the inside handle, then install the inside handle with the screw. At the time of locking cable reassembly: Set the door lock assembly to the LOCK position. Hold the lock knob to the LOCK position by hand and do not pull the cable, while connecting the locking cable.
  9. Install the front No. 1 speaker using an air riveter or hand riveter. (Scheme 21) Connect the connector.
  10. Install the outside rear view mirror with the bolt. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-154768-S20195259862003052300000) table. Connect the connector.
  11. Install the front No. 2 speaker with the 2 bolts. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-154768-S20195259862003052300000) table. Connect the 2 connectors.
  12. Install the front door trim panel. See DOOR TRIM PANEL (FRONT) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION under «POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK LID»(ref-154728) article under DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.

  1. Remove the rear door trim panel. See DOOR TRIM PANEL (REAR) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION under «POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK LID»(ref-154728) article under DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  2. Remove the screw and inside handle, disconnect the 2 cables from the inside handle. (Scheme 15).
  3. Remove the service hole cover. (Scheme 22) Disconnect the connector. Remove the 2 screws and door trim bracket. Remove the service hole cover.
  4. Remove the service hole plate by removing the 2 screws. (Scheme 23)
  5. Remove the door glass run.
  6. Remove the rear door belt moulding. (Scheme 24) Remove a screw. Apply protective tape to the outer surface to keep the surface from being scratched. Using a moulding remover, remove the rear door belt moulding.
  7. Remove the division bar. Remove the 2 bolts and screw. Pull the division bar forward. Rotate the division bar 90 degrees and pull it upward. (Scheme 25)
  8. Remove the rear door quarter window glass. (Scheme 26) Remove the quarter window weatherstrip from the glass.
  9. Remove the door glass. (Scheme 27) Open the door glass. Tilt the door glass and disconnect the roller of the regulator from the glass channel to remove the door glass.
  10. Remove the window regulator by disconnecting the connector and removing the 4 bolts. (Scheme 28)

  1. Install the window regulator with the 4 bolts. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-154768-S20195259862003052300000) table. Connect the connector.
  2. Tilt the door glass and connect the roller of the regulator to the glass channel to install the door glass. (Scheme 27)
  3. Install the quarter window weatherstrip to the glass. (Scheme 23) Install the rear door quarter window glass.
  4. Insert the division bar to the door panel, then rotate it 90 degrees. Install the 2 bolts and screw.
  5. Install door glass run.
  6. Install the rear door belt moulding with the screw. (Scheme 24)
  7. Install the service hole plate with the 2 screws.
  8. Install the service hole cover to the door panel. (Scheme 22) When installing the service hole cover, pull out the links and connectors through the service hole cover. There should be no wrinkles or folds after attaching the service hole cover. After attaching the service hole cover, sealing condition shall be confirmed. Install the door trim bracket with the 2 screws. Connect the connector.
  9. Connect the 2 cables to the inside handle, then install the inside handle with the screw. At the time of locking cable reassembly: Set the door lock assembly to the LOCK position. Hold the lock knob to the LOCK position by hand and do not pull the cable, while connecting the locking cable.
  10. Install the rear door trim panel. See DOOR TRIM PANEL (REAR) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION under «POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK LID»(ref-154728) article under DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
