  1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL Disable the auto tilt away function by changing the customize parameter. Refer to «CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS»(ref-524111-S29830906752013012800000) . NOTE: Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the auto tilt away function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing the operation. HINT: Performing the above operation causes the auto tilt away function to be disabled when the engine switch is turned off. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column assembly. Turn the engine switch off and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. WARNING: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system. NOTE: w/ Navigation System for HDD: After the ignition switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately a minute to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the ignition switch off, wait a minute or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-524109-S13936590332013012800000) .

  4. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY Remove the steering wheel assembly. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-524294-S18345652952013012800000) .
  5. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN LOWER COVER Remove the 3 screws. Detach the 2 claws and remove the steering column lower cover. NOTE: Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch.
  6. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN UPPER COVER (w/o Driver Monitor Camera) Detach the 4 clips. Detach the claw and remove the steering column upper cover.
  7. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN UPPER COVER (w/ Driver Monitor Camera) Detach the 4 clips. Detach the claw and connector, and disconnect remove the steering column upper cover.
  8. REMOVE COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Disconnect the connectors from the combination switch with spiral cable. Use pliers to hold the clamp and raise the claw with a screwdriver. Then remove the combination switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.
  9. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT LOWER PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY Remove the instrument lower panel airbag assembly. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-524291-S06200618752013012800000) .
  10. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY Detach the claws and remove the wire harness protector and wire harness. Put matchmarks on the steering actuator and steering column. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark Remove the bolt. Remove the 4 nuts, steering column and steering shaft stopper.
  11. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 FENDER APRON TO FRAME SEAL LH . Refer to «REMOVAL - Step 12»(ref-524246-S36416482222013012800000)
  12. DISCONNECT STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark
  13. REMOVE NO. 1 STEERING COLUMN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Remove the 4 bolts and steering column hole cover from the vehicle.
  14. DISCONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and power steering gear. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark Remove the bolt and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft from the power steering gear.

  1. REMOVE STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY Using a center punch, mark the center of the 2 tapered-head bolts. Using a 3 to 4 mm (0.118 to 0.157 in.) drill, drill a hole in the 2 bolts. Using a screw extractor, remove the 2 bolts and steering lock actuator assembly from the steering column assembly.
  2. REMOVE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU Disconnect the connector. Remove the bolt and ECU.

Scheme 25: REASSEMBLY
  1. INSTALL MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU Install the ECU with the bolt. Torque: 2.8 N*m (28 kgf*cm, 24 in.*lbf) Connect the connector. NOTE: The connectors on both ends of the wire harness between the telescopic motor and ECU are the same shape. When installing them, connect the connectors of the same color.
  2. INSTALL STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY Temporarily install the steering lock actuator assembly with 2 new tapered-head bolts. Tighten the 2 tapered-head bolt until the bolt heads breaks off.

INSTALLATION

  1. CONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY Align the matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and power steering gear. Install the bolt. Torque: 36 N*m (367 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf)
  2. INSTALL NO. 1 STEERING COLUMN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Install the hole cover with the 4 bolts. Torque: 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) NOTE: Do not fold back the boot part of the steering hole cover or extend it excessively. If it is extended excessively, return it to its original position.
  3. CONNECT STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Align the matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering intermediate shaft assembly. HINT: Install the steering intermediate shaft to the inside of the vehicle. Install the bolt. Torque: 36 N*m (367 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf)
  4. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 FENDER APRON TO FRAME SEAL LH . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 83»(ref-524246-S15625075792013012800000)
  5. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY Align the matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft, steering shaft stopper and steering column. Install the steering column with the 4 nuts. Torque: 26 N*m (265 kgf*cm, 19 ft.*lbf) Install the bolts. Torque: 36 N*m (367 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf) Attach the claws to install the wire harness protector and wire harness.
  6. INSTALL NO. 1 INSTRUMENT LOWER PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY Install the instrument lower panel airbag assembly. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-524291-S04752285732013012800000) .
  7. INSTALL COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Using pliers, grip the claws of the clamp and install the combination switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly to the steering column assembly with the clamp. Connect the connectors to the combination switch with spiral cable.
  8. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN UPPER COVER (w/ Driver Monitor Camera) Connect the connector and attach the claw to install the steering column upper cover. Attach the 4 clips to install the steering column upper cover to the instrument cluster finish panel.
  9. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN UPPER COVER (w/o Driver Monitor Camera) Attach the claw to install the steering column upper cover. Attach the 4 clips to install the steering column upper cover to the instrument cluster finish panel.
  10. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN LOWER COVER Attach the 2 claws to install the steering column lower cover. NOTE: Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch. Install the 3 screws.
  11. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY Install the steering wheel assembly. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-524294-S24069381492013012800000) .

  13. CHECK FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
  14. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: Reset the auto tilt away function setting to the previous condition by changing the customize parameter. Refer to «CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS»(ref-524111-S29830906752013012800000) . When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-524109-S13936590332013012800000) .
  15. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT Inspect the SRS warning light. Refer to «DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM»(ref-524298-S05940239272013012800000) .

  3. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN LOWER COVER Remove the 3 screws. Detach the 2 claws and remove the steering column lower cover. NOTE: Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch.
  4. REMOVE TILT AND TELESCOPIC SWITCH Disconnect the connector. Detach the claw and pull out the tilt and telescopic switch. NOTE: Pushing on the claw too hard will break the claw.

  1. INSPECT TILT AND TELESCOPIC SWITCH Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.   1. INSTALL TILT AND TELESCOPIC SWITCH Attach the claw to install the tilt and telescopic switch. Connect the connector.
  2. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN LOWER COVER Install the 3 screws. Attach the 2 claws to install the steering column lower cover. NOTE: Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch.
  3. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: Reset the auto tilt away function setting to the previous condition by changing the customize parameter. Refer to «CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS»(ref-524111-S29830906752013012800000) . When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.   1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL WARNING: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system. NOTE: w/ Navigation System for HDD: After the ignition switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately a minute to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the ignition switch off, wait a minute or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-524109-S13936590332013012800000) .
