  16. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut. Put matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and main shaft assembly. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly. SST: 09950-50013 (09951-05010 ,09952-05010 ,09953-05020 ,09954-05011)
  17. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER Remove the 3 screws. Detach the 2 claws to remove the steering column cover lower. NOTE: Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch. Detach the 4 clips to separate the steering column cover upper. Detach the claw to remove the steering column cover upper.
  18. REMOVE TILT AND TELESCOPIC SWITCH Disconnect the connector. Using a screwdriver, detach the claw and pull out the tilt and telescopic switch. NOTE: Pushing on the claw too hard will break the claw. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  19. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Remove the clamp and turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.
  20. REMOVE AIR DUCT NO. 1 Detach the 2 claws and remove the air duct No. 1.
  21. SEPARATE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY NO. 2 (for 2WD) Loosen the bolt (A) and remove the bolt (B), then slide the steering intermediate shaft assembly No. 2. HINT: Do not remove the bolt (A). Do not disconnect the steering intermediate shaft assembly No. 2 from the power steering link assembly. Put matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly and the power steering link assembly. Separate the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly from the power steering link assembly. Put matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly and the steering intermediate shaft assembly No. 2. Remove the bolt and the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly from the steering intermediate shaft assembly No. 2.
  22. SEPARATE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY NO. 2 (for 4WD) Remove the bolt, and then slide the steering intermediate shaft assembly No. 2. HINT: Do not disconnect the steering intermediate shaft assembly No. 2 from the power steering link assembly. Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly No. 2 and the power steering link assembly. Separate the intermediate shaft assembly No. 2 from the power steering link assembly.
  23. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY Remove the bolt and separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly No. 2. Disconnect the connectors and wire harness clamps. Remove the 4 nuts and steering column assembly from the instrument panel reinforcement assembly.
  24. REMOVE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY NO. 2 Remove the clamp from the steering column hole shield. Remove the steering intermediate shaft assembly No. 2.

  1. REMOVE STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY Using a center punch, mark the center of the 2 tapered-head bolts. Using a 3 to 4 mm (0.12 to 0.16 in.) drill, drill a hole in the 2 bolts. Using a screw extractor, remove the 2 bolts and steering lock actuator assembly from the steering column assembly.

  2. INSTALL STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY Temporarily install the steering lock actuator assembly with 2 new tapered-head bolts. Tighten the 2 tapered-head bolts until the bolt heads break off.

  1. INSTALL STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY NO. 2 Install the steering intermediate shaft assembly No. 2.
  2. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY Install the steering column assembly with the 4 nuts. Torque: 26 N*m ( 260 kgf*cm, 19 ft.*lbf) Connect the connectors and wire harness clamps to the steering column assembly. Align the matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke assembly and power steering link assembly. Install the bolt. Torque: 35 N*m ( 360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)
  3. CONNECT STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY NO. 2 Connect the steering intermediate shaft assembly No. 2 to the steering main shaft. Install the bolt. Torque: 35 N*m ( 360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf) Install the clamp to the steering column hole shield.
  4. INSTALL STEERING SLIDING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) Align the matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly No. 2 and steering sliding yoke sub-assembly. Temporarily install the bolt. HINT: Do not tighten the bolt. Align the matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly and the power steering link assembly. Install bolt (A) and tighten the 2 bolts. Torque: 35 N*m ( 360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)
  5. CONNECT STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY NO. 2 (for 4WD) Align the matchmarks on the intermediate shaft assembly No. 2 and the power steering link assembly. Install the bolt. Torque: 35 N*m ( 360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)
  6. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
  7. INSTALL TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Install the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly to the steering column assembly with the clamp.
  8. INSTALL TILT AND TELESCOPIC SWITCH Attach the claw to install the tilt and telescopic switch. Connect the connector.
  9. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER Attach the 4 clips to install the steering column cover upper onto the instrument panel cluster finish panel. Attach the claw to install the steering column cover upper. Attach the 2 claws to install the steering column cover lower. NOTE: Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch, Using a socket wrench (+), install the 3 screws. Torque: 2.0 N*m ( 20 kgf*cm, 18 in.*lbf)
  10. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 4»(ref-382579-S05105236722011012800000)
  11. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and steering main shaft assembly. Install the steering wheel assembly set nut. Torque: 50 N*m ( 510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf)
  12. INSTALL AIR DUCT NO. 1 Attach the 2 claws to install the air duct No. 1.

  26. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: Make sure that the cable has been disconnected from the battery terminal for at least 2 seconds before reconnecting the cable. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal with the front wheels facing straight ahead. When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.   21. REMOVE STEERING SLIDING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY NOTE: Make sure that the steering link assembly is centered before performing this step. Loosen the bolt (A) and remove the bolt (B), then slide the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly. HINT: Do not remove the bolt (A). Do not disconnect the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly from the power steering link assembly. Put matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly and the power steering link assembly. Separate the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly from the power steering link assembly. Put matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly and the steering actuator assembly. Remove the bolt and the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly from the steering actuator assembly.
  22. REMOVE MAIN SHAFT LOWER DUST COVER Remove the 2 bolts and main shaft lower dust cover.
  23. SEPARATE STEERING ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY Disconnect the connector and separate the wire harness clamp from the steering actuator assembly. Put matchmarks on the steering actuator assembly and the main shaft. Remove the bolt and separate the steering actuator assembly.
  24. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY Disconnect the connectors and wire harness clamps. Remove the 4 nuts and steering column assembly from the instrument panel reinforcement assembly.
  25. REMOVE STEERING ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY Remove the clamp from the steering column hole shield. Put matchmarks on the steering actuator assembly and steering column hole shield. Remove the steering actuator assembly.

INSTALLATION

  1. INSTALL MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU Using a socket wrench (+), install the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU with the 2 screws. Torque: 1.5 N*m ( 15 kgf*cm, 13 in.*lbf) Connect the connector to the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU. NOTE: The connectors on both ends of the wire harness between the telescopic motor and ECU are the same shape. When installing them, connect the connectors of the same color.
  2. INSTALL STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY Temporarily install the steering lock actuator assembly with 2 new tapered-head bolts. Tighten the 2 tapered-head bolts until the bolt heads break off.
  3. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (for 2GR-FSE) HINT: Refer to the instructions for Installation of the steering column assembly (2GR-FSE) . Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-382576-S05446068012011012800000) .
  4. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (for 1UR-FSE) HINT: Refer to the instructions for Installation of the steering column assembly (1UR-FSE). Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-382576-S18065025682011012800000) .

  2. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY NO. 2 . Refer to «REMOVAL - Step 32»(ref-382759-S24118050202011012800000)
  3. REMOVE STEERING CONTROL ECU Disconnect the 3 connectors form the steering control ECU. Remove the 3 screws and the steering control ECU.

  1. INSTALL STEERING CONTROL ECU Install the steering control ECU with the 3 screws. HINT: Align positioning boss (A) of the blower assembly with the hole of the steering control ECU. Securely engage the hook (B) of the steering control ECU with the blower assembly. Connect the 3 connectors to the steering control ECU.
  2. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY NO. 2 . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 7»(ref-382759-S35541172152011012800000)
  3. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-382578-S40254115562011012800000) .
  4. PERFORM VARIABLE GEAR RATIO STEERING SYSTEM CALIBRATION HINT: Refer to «CALIBRATION»(ref-382810-S39353253692011012800000) .
