CALIBRATION
Note. Use this procedure to center the steering wheel if: The steering actuator has been replaced. The steering control ECU has been replaced. The steering column or gear has been disconnected. The steering wheel is still off-center after completing the steering angle sensor initialization.

- VGRS SYSTEM CALIBRATION PROCEDURE (USING SST CHECK WIRE) FACE TIRES STRAIGHT AHEAD NOTE: Drive the vehicle to confirm that the steering wheel is centered. NEXT: Go to next step CHECK DTC Check for DTCs. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-386975-S17151165742011022400000) . Result Result Proceed to DTC C1591/51 is not output A DTC C1591/51 is output B B --> Go to step 4 A: Go to next step PERFORM ACTUATOR ANGLE INITIALIZATION SST: 09843-18040 Turn the power switch ON (IG). Start the engine. Center the steering wheel. Complete the following steps within 1 minute. Using SST, connect terminals 12 (TS) and 4 (CG), and 13 (TC) and 4 (CG) of the DLC3. Disconnect the SST check wire from terminal 12 (TS) of the DLC3, and turn the steering wheel to the left 180° or more. Connect the SST to terminal 12 (TS) of the DLC3. Disconnect the SST from terminal 13 (TC) of the DLC3, and turn the steering wheel to the right 180° or more. Connect the SST to terminal 13 (TC) of the DLC3. HINT: When the master warning light (VGRS) comes on, DTC C1591/51 is memorized. Disconnect the SST from the DLC3. Turn the power switch OFF. NEXT --> Go to step 1 FACE TIRES STRAIGHT AHEAD Confirm that the steering wheel is centered when facing the tires straight ahead. NOTE: Drive the vehicle to confirm that is steering wheel is centered. Result Result Proceed to Steering wheel is off-center A Steering wheel is centered B B --> Go to step 8 A: Go to next step UNLOCK STEERING ACTUATOR NOTE: Do not start the engine. Turn the power switch OFF. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery. Disconnect the K26 connector from the steering actuator. Connect a jumper wire from terminal LV+ to the positive (+) battery terminal and another jumper wire from terminal LG+ to the negative (-) battery terminal. NOTE: Do not apply voltage for more than 3 minutes. NEXT: Go to next step STEERING CENTER ADJUSTMENT Center the steering wheel. NOTE: If the spiral cable of the airbags and VGRS system is not centered when the steering wheel is installed, release the system lock and center the spiral cable. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-386976-S20886874092011022400000) . Slowly turn the steering wheel to the left. Turn it to the right approximately 2 turns from the point where resistance begins to be felt (the end of the spiral cable) while steering. This will center the spiral cable. If excessive force is applied to the end of the spiral cable, the cable may break. NEXT: Go to next step LOCK STEERING ACTUATOR Disconnect the positive (+) and negative (-) battery terminal cables from the steering actuator. Connect the K26 connector to the steering actuator. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery. Turn the steering wheel approximately 3° to the left and right. Confirm that the reaction force can be felt. NOTE: If the above procedures are not followed correctly, a DTC will be detected. If a DTC is detected, perform the above procedures again and then check for DTCs. Perform these procedures with the power switch OFF. NEXT --> Go to step 1 ADJUST ACTUATOR ANGLE HINT: Activating and ending test mode will complete actuator angle adjustment. Make sure the power switch is OFF. NOTE: Do not touch the steering wheel during these procedures. Using SST, connect terminals 12 (TS) and 4 (CG) of the DLC3. SST: 09843-18040 Turn the power switch ON (IG). Confirm that the "VGRS TEST MODE" is displayed on the multi-information display when test mode is activated. Turn the power switch OFF. Disconnect the SST from terminals 12 (TS) and 4 (CG) of the DLC3. Turn the power switch ON (IG) again. NEXT: Go to next step CHECK MASTER WARNING LIGHT Confirm that the master warning light (VGRS) is off. Turn the power switch OFF. Confirm that master warning light (VGRS) is operating normally. NEXT: Go to next step CHECK STEERING WHEEL OPERATION Start the engine. Perform the steering angle sensor initialization. Refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-386975-S05283496462011022400000) . Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock and check that it rotates approximately 2.7 turns. Drive the vehicle and confirm that the steering wheel is centered. NEXT --> END
- VGRS SYSTEM CALIBRATION PROCEDURE (USING TECHSTREAM) FACE TIRES STRAIGHT AHEAD NOTE: Drive the vehicle to confirm that the steering wheel is centered. NEXT: Go to next step PERFORM VGRS SYSTEM CALIBRATION Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the power switch ON (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Chassis / VGRS / Utility / Steering Angle Adjust. Perform the following procedures displayed on the Techstream. NEXT: Go to next step CHECK MASTER WARNING LIGHT Confirm that the master warning light (VGRS) is off. Turn the power switch OFF. Disconnect the Techstream from the DLC3. Turn the power switch ON (IG). Confirm that master warning light (VGRS) is operating normally. NEXT: Go to next step CHECK STEERING WHEEL OPERATION Start the engine. Perform the steering angle sensor initialization. Refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-386975-S05283496462011022400000) . Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock and check that it rotates approximately 2.7 turns. Drive the vehicle and confirm that the steering wheel is centered. NEXT --> END

- TEST MODE (VGRS SENSOR SIGNAL CHECK) HINT: When the system enters test mode, "VGRS TEST MODE" is displayed on the multi-information display. Before entering test mode, check and repair any malfunctions indicated by the present DTCs of the VGRS system. By switching from normal mode to test mode, the steering angle sensor can be read. When entering test mode, the steering control ECU sets all the test mode DTCs first. When the mode is switched from test mode to normal mode, all the test mode DTCs will be erased. Check the test mode DTCs (using the Techstream). Turn the power switch OFF. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the power switch ON (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Read the test mode DTCs by following the prompts on the Techstream screen. HINT: Refer to the Techstream's operator's manual for further details. Clear the test mode DTCs (using the Techstream). Turn the power switch OFF. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the power switch ON (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Switch the system from test mode to normal mode by following the directions on the Techstream screen. HINT: Refer to the Techstream's operator's manual for further details. Check the test mode DTCs (using SST check wire). Turn the power switch OFF. Using SST, connect terminals 12 (TS) and 4 (CG) of the DLC3. SST: 09843-18040 Turn the power switch ON (IG). Read 2-digit test mode DTCs from the multi-information display. NOTE: Perform these procedures with the vehicle stopped. Clear the test mode DTCs (using SST check wire). Turn the power switch OFF. Disconnect the SST from the DLC3. SST: 09843-18040 Turn the power switch ON (IG). HINT: If the power switch is turned ON (IG) with terminals 12 (TS) and 4 (CG) connected, the system remains in test mode.
