BALL JOINT ROTATION CHECKING

Inspect ball joints for wear. Move ball joint fully back and forth 5 times. Install nut and use torque wrench to rotate. Turn nut continuously at one turn every 2-4 seconds and read torque on fifth turn. Replace ball joint if rotating torque exceeds specification or there is unusual resistance or looseness. See BALL JOINT ROTATING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table.

LOWER BALL JOINT EXCESSIVE PLAY

  1. Remove tire and install lug nuts to disc.
  2. Using a dial indicator, check lower ball joint for excessive play when you push lug nuts up and down with a force of 66 ft.lbs. (294 N). Maximum play should be .035 inches (.9 mm). If not within specification, replace lower ball joint.

RIDE HEIGHT

Note. Before measuring ride height, bounce vehicle several times to stabilize suspension.

  1. Measure front vehicle height. Standard front height is measured from ground to center of lower control arm mounting bolt. (Scheme 36)
  2. Measure rear vehicle height. Standard rear height is measured from ground to center of No. 2 lower control arm mounting bolt. (Scheme 36)
  3. For standard vehicle height specifications, see «STANDARD VEHICLE HEIGHT SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-156691-S33037775852003072500000) table.
