Using Hand-Held Tester

Note. Always record DTCs during retrieval.

Note. An OBD II scan tool complying with SAE J1978 can be used if Lexus hand-held tester is not available.

Prepare the hand-held tester. Connect the hand-held tester to DLC3. (Scheme 39) Turn the ignition switch ON and switch the hand-held tester main switch ON. Use the hand-held tester to check the DTCs, note them down. For operating instructions, see the hand-held tester instruction manual.

LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT DOOR LOCK & UNLOCK SWITCH CIRCUIT

Note. If using the hand-held tester, start the inspection from step 1 and if not using the hand-held tester, start from step 2 .

CLOCK

  1. Inspect the clock circuit. See «CLOCK CIRCUIT»(ref-152747-S06546786892003022500000) under CIRCUIT TESTS.
  2. If the passenger seat belt warning light does not light up or the clock will not operate, go to next step. If the clock loses or gains time, go to step 4.
  3. Check that the battery positive voltage is 10-16 volts. If the voltage is not as specified, replace the battery. Check that the DOME and RAD NO. 2 fuses are not blown. (Scheme 40) If the fuse is blown, replace the fuse and check for a short. Inspect the connector on the wiring harness side. Trouble shoot the clock as follows: If there is battery positive voltage between terminal +B and body ground, go to the next step. If there is not battery voltage, the +B circuit in the wiring harness is faulty. If there is battery positive voltage between terminal ACC and body ground, go to the next step. If there is not battery voltage, the ACC circuit in the wiring harness is faulty. If there is battery positive voltage between terminal GND and body ground, go to the next step. If there is not battery voltage, the ground circuit in the wiring harness is faulty. Replace the clock. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article under «INSTRUMENT PANEL»(ref-153134) in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  4. Check that the battery positive voltage is 10-16 volts. If the voltage is not as specified, replace the battery. Inspect the error of the clock. The allowable error (per day) is -1.5 to 1.5 seconds. If the error exceeds the allowable error, replace the clock. Check if the clock adjusting button is sticking in position and has failed to return. If the error exceeds the allowable error, replace the clock. Inspect the connector on the wiring harness side. Trouble shoot the connector on the wiring harness side as follows: If there is battery positive voltage between terminal +B and body ground. If the voltage is less than 10 volts, locate cause and repair, or recharge the battery. If the voltage is not less than 10 volts, go to the next step. If there is battery positive voltage between terminal ACC and body ground. If the voltage is less than 10 volts, locate cause and repair, or recharge the battery. If the voltage is not less than 10 volts, go to the next step. Adjust or replace the clock. HORN

Connect positive (+) lead from battery to the terminal on horn and ground horn body to chassis. Check that horn blows. If operation is not as specified, replace horn.

STOP LIGHT SWITCH

Inspect the stop light switch continuity. (Scheme 41) See INSPECTING STOP LIGHT SWITCH CONTINUITY table. If the continuity is not as specified, replace the switch. See STOP LIGHT SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.

PIN VOLTAGE TESTS

Using a DVOM connected to ground, backprobe to measure voltage or resistance at appropriate terminal of the body ECU No. 1 and body ECU No. 2 harness connectors unless otherwise specified. See BODY ECU NO. 1 PIN VOLTAGE CHART table and BODY ECU NO. 2 PIN VOLTAGE CHART table.
