BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM
| CAUTION | Wash off brake fluid immediately if it comes into contact with a painted surface. |
Note. If any work is done on brake system or if air in brake lines is suspected, bleed air from the system. When bleeding, keep the amount of fluid within the line of reservoir between Min. and Max. Use only SAE J1703 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT 3 brake fluid.
Note. If hydraulic brake booster has been disassembled or if reservoir becomes empty, bleed hydraulic brake booster. See HYDRAULIC BRAKE BOOSTER .
BRAKE LINE
- Fill reservoir with brake fluid.
- Connect a vinyl tube to bleeder screw on brake caliper and place the other end in a clear jar.
- Depress brake pedal several times, then loosen bleeder screw with pedal held down.
- At the point when fluid stops coming out, tighten bleeder screw to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-153594-S36295261152003041500000) .
- Release brake pedal. Repeat 3 and 4 until all air in fluid has been bled out.
- Repeat procedure to bleed air out of the brake line for each wheel.
HYDRAULIC BRAKE BOOSTER
Note. If the hydraulic brake booster has been disassembled, brake lines disconnected from the hydraulic brake booster, or if reservoir becomes empty, bleed hydraulic brake booster.
With ABS Actuator Checker
- Disconnect hydraulic brake booster harness connectors. (Scheme 92)
- Connect the connector with label of "AIR BLEED" attached to connector of actuator checker (09990-00150/00480), to hydraulic brake booster side wire harness via sub-wire harness. (Scheme 93)
- Connect red cable of checker to battery positive terminal and black cable to negative terminal.
- Turn ignition switch off. Depress brake pedal more than 40 times. When pressure in power supply system is released, reaction force becomes light and stroke becomes longer.
- Turn ignition switch to ON and check that pump stops after 30-40 seconds. If pump does not stop, repeat 4.
- With the ignition switch on depress brake pedal more than 20 times. Hold pedal depressed and bleed right and left front wheel calipers. See «BRAKE LINE»(ref-153594-S37422721662003041500000).
- Hold brake pedal depressed and bleed right and left rear wheel calipers. See «BRAKE LINE»(ref-153594-S37422721662003041500000).
- Turn selector switch of actuator checker to "FRONT RH" position. Push and hold in MAIN push switch, depress brake pedal and hold it to bleed right front brake caliper. Repeat until there are no more air bubbles in fluid.
- Turn selector switch of actuator checker to "FRONT LH" position. Push and hold in MAIN push switch, depress brake pedal and hold it to bleed left front brake caliper. Repeat until there are no more air bubbles in the fluid.
- Push and hold in "SUB LH" and "SUB RH" switches and bleed right rear brake caliper. Repeat until there are no more air bubbles in fluid.
- Push and hold in "SUB LH" and "SUB RH" switches and bleed left rear brake caliper. Repeat until there are no more air bubbles in fluid.
- Disconnect actuator checker and sub-wire harness from actuator.
- Connect hydraulic brake booster harness connectors.
- Clear DTCs. See «CLEARING CODES»(ref-153594-S34192553842003041500000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.

PRE-CHECK
- Release the parking brake pedal.
- Turn ignition switch is on. Check that ABS and BRAKE warning lights turn on for 3 seconds. Depressing brake pedal repeatedly may turn on warning lights. (Scheme 95)
- If the indicator check result is not normal, see appropriate test under «SYSTEM TESTING»(ref-153594-S29160478282003041500000).
Scheme 95
- Connect hand-held tester to the (DLC3). (Scheme 94)
- Read the DTC by following the prompts on the tester screen. If any DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test. See «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS»(ref-153594-S38389427502003041500000).
- Please refer to hand-held tester operator's manual for further details.
- Disconnect short pin from (DLC1). (Scheme 96)
- Using special tool (09843-18020), jumper between terminals Tc and E 1 of (DLC1). (Scheme 97)
- Turn ignition switch to ON. Read DTCs from ABS warning light flashing patterns on combination meter. For flashing patterns of normal and codes 11 and 21 (Scheme 98)
- If any DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test. See «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS»(ref-153594-S38389427502003041500000).
