POWER MIRROR WITH MEMORY (GS300 & GS400)
Note. Before proceeding with trouble shooting, check multiple communication diagnosis system to ensure system is functioning properly. See appropriate MULTIPLEX CONTROL SYSTEM article.
Both Mirrors Inoperative
Check power mirror switch circuit, power mirror motors, body ECU No. 2, and wiring harness.
Only One Side Of Mirror Inoperative
Check power mirror motor circuit, driver's door ECU, and wiring harness.
Mirror On Opposite Side Operates
Check mirror switch circuit, body ECU No. 2, and wiring harness.
Mirror Does Not Operate As Indicated On Switch
Check mirror switch circuit, body ECU No. 2, and wiring harness.
POWER MIRROR WITH MEMORY (LS400)

Check fuses or fusible links. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Check power mirror switch, tilt and telescopic ECU, multiplex communication circuit, and wiring harness.
One Mirror Inoperative
Check driver door or passenger door ECU. See MULTIPLEX CONTROL SYSTEM article. Check power mirror motor, and wiring harness.
Mirror Does Not Return To Memorized Position
Ensure memorized position has been set. Check driving position switch (memory and return switches), driver door ECU, multiplex communication circuit, and wiring harness.
Mirror Returns To Non-Memorized Position
Ensure memorized position has been set. Check wiring harness.
Check fuses. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Check power mirror switch, power mirror motors, power mirror ECU, and wiring harness.
Mirror Operates Abnormally
Check power mirror switch, power mirror motor(s), power mirror ECU, and wiring harness.
Ensure memorized position has been set. Check driving position switch (memory and return switches), tilt and telescoping ECU, power mirror ECU, mirror sensors, and wiring harness.
Check power mirror ECU, mirror sensors, and wiring harness.
Both Mirrors Do Not Operate
Check fuse(s), power mirror switch, wiring harness, and power mirror motors. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
One Mirror Does Not Operate
Check power mirror switch, power mirror motor, and wiring harness.
MIRROR DEFOGGER
Note. See REAR WINDOW & SIDE MIRROR DEFOGGERS article.
GS300, GS400 & LS400
Check ECU-IG fuse, liquid crystal mirror and wiring harness.
SC300 & SC400
Check DOME fuse, liquid crystal mirror and wiring harness.
GS300 & GS400
- Disconnect power mirror motor harness connector. Connect three 1.5-volt dry cell batteries together in series. (Scheme 20) Connect dry cell positive lead to terminal No. 8 and negative lead to terminal No. 11. Connect positive lead of voltmeter to terminal No. 9 and negative lead to terminal No. 11.
- While watching voltmeter, apply battery voltage to terminals No. 2 and 6, reversing polarity as necessary to move mirror in both directions. As mirror moves, voltage should gradually and smoothly change from 0.0-1.8 volts to 2.8-5.0 volts. If voltage is not as specified, replace power mirror motor assembly. If voltage is as specified, go to next step.
- Disconnect voltmeter and battery voltage from motor connector terminals (leave dry cell assembly connected). Connect positive lead of voltmeter to terminal No. 10 and negative lead to terminal No. 11.
- Apply battery voltage between terminals No. 1 and 2, reversing polarity as necessary to move mirror in both directions. As mirror moves, voltage should gradually and smoothly change from 0-1.8 volts to 2.8-5.0 volts. If voltage is not as specified, replace power mirror motor assembly.
Scheme 20
LS400
- Disconnect power mirror motor harness connector. Connect three 1.5-volt dry cell batteries together in series. (Scheme 21) Connect dry cell positive lead to terminal No. 7 and negative lead to terminal No. 6. Connect positive lead of voltmeter to terminal No. 13 and negative lead to terminal No. 6.
- While watching voltmeter, apply battery voltage to terminals No. 10 and 11, reversing polarity as necessary to move mirror in both directions. As mirror moves, voltage should gradually and smoothly change from 0-.9 volt to 2.8-5.0 volts. If voltage is not as specified, replace power mirror. If voltage is as specified, go to next step.
- Disconnect voltmeter and battery voltage from motor connector terminals (leave dry cell assembly connected). Connect positive lead of voltmeter to terminal No. 14 and negative lead to terminal No. 6.
- Apply battery voltage between terminals No. 11 and 12, reversing polarity as necessary to move mirror in both directions. As mirror moves, voltage should gradually and smoothly change from 0-.9 volt to 2.8-5.0 volts. If voltage is not as specified, replace power mirror.
Scheme 21
- Disconnect electrical connector from power mirror motor. Connect three 1.5-volt dry cell batteries together in series. (Scheme 22) Connect dry cell positive lead to terminal No. 11 and negative lead to terminal No. 8. Connect positive lead of voltmeter to terminal No. 10 and negative lead to terminal No. 8.
- While watching voltmeter, apply battery voltage between terminals No. 3 and 13, reversing polarity as necessary to move mirror in both directions. As mirror moves, voltage should gradually and smoothly change from 0-.9 volt to 2.8-5.0 volts.
- Disconnect voltmeter and battery voltage from motor connector terminals (leave dry cell assembly connected). Connect positive lead of voltmeter to terminal No. 9 and negative lead to terminal No. 8.
- Apply battery voltage between terminals No. 12 and 13, reversing polarity as necessary to move motor in both directions. As mirror moves, voltage should gradually and smoothly change from 0-.9 volt to 2.8-5.0 volts. If voltage is not as specified, replace power mirror.
Scheme 22
GS300 & GS400 (With Memory)
Disconnect outer mirror connector. Using jumper wires, connect 1.5 volt battery positive end to terminal No. 2 and battery negative end to terminal No. 1 at mirror connector. (Scheme 20) Mirror face should change from bright to dark. Replace mirror assembly as necessary.
GS300 & GS400 (Without Memory)
Disconnect outer mirror connector. Using jumper wires, connect 1.5 volt battery positive end to terminal No. 5 and battery negative end to terminal No. 4 at mirror connector. (Scheme 20) Mirror face should change from bright to dark. Replace mirror assembly as necessary.
LS400 (With Memory)
Disconnect outer mirror connector. Using jumper wires, connect 1.5 volt battery positive end to terminal No. 4 and battery negative end to terminal No. 3 at mirror connector. (Scheme 21) Mirror face should change from bright to dark. Replace mirror assembly as necessary.
LS400 (Without Memory)
Disconnect outer mirror connector. Using jumper wires, connect 1.5 volt battery positive end to terminal No. 2 and battery negative end to terminal No. 1 at mirror connector. (Scheme 21) Mirror face should change from bright to dark. Replace mirror assembly as necessary.
SC300 & SC400 (With Memory)
Disconnect outer mirror connector. Using jumper wires, connect 1.5 volt battery positive end to terminal No. 1 and battery negative end to terminal No. 2 at mirror connector. (Scheme 22) Mirror face should change from bright to dark. Replace mirror assembly as necessary.
GS300, GS400 & LS400 (With Memory)
Disconnect driver's door ECU harness connector. ECU is located inside driver's door. Check for continuity between specified terminals at driver's ECU harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . See appropriate DRIVING POSITION MEMORY & RETURN SWITCH CIRCUIT CONTINUITY TEST table. If continuity is not as specified, check switch. See DRIVING POSITION MEMORY & RETURN SWITCH TEST .

DRIVING POSITION MEMORY & RETURN SWITCH CIRCUIT CONTINUITY TEST
Disconnect driving position memory and return switch connector. Check for continuity between specified terminals at driving position memory and return switch connector. (Scheme 23) Refer to DRIVING POSITION MEMORY & RETURN SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST table. If continuity is not as specified, replace switch.

DRIVING POSITION MEMORY & RETURN SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST

MIRROR SELECT SWITCH CIRCUIT (LS400)
- Remove tilt and telescopic ECU, located behind dash, near steering column. Do not disconnect harness connectors. Using DVOM, backprobe DVOM positive lead to ECU harness connector terminal No. 1 (Brown/Red wire) and connect DVOM negative lead to ECU harness connector terminal No. 5 (White/Black wire). See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-96833-S17931577122001041900000) .
- Turn ignition on. Check voltage with switch in different positions. See «MIRROR SELECT SWITCH CIRCUIT TEST»(ref-96833-S08467942872001041900000) table. If voltage in all switch positions is within range, diagnose using appropriate MULTIPLEX CONTROL SYSTEMS article. If voltage in either switch positions are out of range, replace side mirror switch. If voltage in both positions is out of range, check power mirror switch. See appropriate heading under «TESTING»(ref-96833-S03770797602001041900000) . Replace switch as necessary. If switch is okay, go to next step.
- Check harness and connectors between tilt and telescopic ECU and side mirror adjust manual switch. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-96833-S17931577122001041900000) . Repair or replace harness as necessary. If harness and connectors are okay, replace tilt and telescopic ECU.

MIRROR SELECT SWITCH CIRCUIT TEST
GS300, GS400, LS400, SC300 & SC400
Remove rear view mirror. Using jumper wires, apply positive battery voltage to terminal No. 1 and negative battery terminal to terminal No. 4 at rear view mirror harness connector. (Scheme 24) Connect positive lead of voltmeter to terminal No. 2 and negative lead to terminal No. 3. Press mirror switch. Observe voltmeter and shine an electric light on face of mirror. Battery voltage should be present and face should change from bright to dark. Replace mirror as necessary.
