FUEL CUT SYSTEM OPERATION

  1. Start and warm engine to operating temperature. Turn A/C off. Use a stethoscope to listen for injector operating noise (or feel for vibration with finger).
  2. Increase engine speed to at least the following specification. See «CONNECTING TACHOMETER»(ref-21748-S35161899392001010300000) under INTRODUCTION. 3000 RPM.
  3. Release throttle lever. When throttle lever is released, injectors should stop operating until engine speed decreases to 1400 RPM.

FUEL INJECTOR OPERATION

Start engine. Using a stethoscope, listen for clicking from each injector (or feel injector for vibration). If clicking is not heard, check for loose connection at injector connector, or no voltage signal at injector connector.

FUEL PUMP OPERATION (USING DLC NO. 1)

CAUTIONTo prevent fuel pump damage, DO NOT operate fuel pump for more than 10 seconds.

Connect Jumper Wire (09843-18020) between terminals +B and FP of DLC No. 1. (Scheme 1) See COMPONENT LOCATIONS under INTRODUCTION N. Turn ignition on, engine off. Fuel pump is operating if pulsations can be felt in fuel pressure hose or if noise from fuel return can be heard.

FUEL PUMP OPERATION (USING FUEL PUMP CONNECTOR)

WARNINGTo prevent sparking near the fuel tank in the following procedure, make final connections at test battery.
CAUTIONTo prevent fuel pump damage, DO NOT operate fuel pump for more than 10 seconds.
CAUTIONFuel pump and fuel sending unit are separate components. Fuel pump is accessible through vehicle interior, but fuel pump connector is accessible through luggage compartment (near fuel sending unit).

Remove trim cover from behind rear seat in luggage compartment. Disconnect 2-pin fuel pump connector (NOT the sending unit connector). On female side of fuel pump connector, ground White/Black wire terminal. Apply battery voltage across other terminal. Fuel pump is operating if pulsations can be felt in fuel pressure hose or if noise from fuel return can be heard.

IAC System Operation

Start engine. While shutting engine off, listen for a click from IAC valve. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS under INTRODUCTION. If click is heard, IAC system is okay. If click is not heard, perform IAC system circuit test.

IAC Valve Operation

Remove IAC valve. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS under INTRODUCTION. Connect battery positive lead to terminals B1 and B2 of IAC valve. (Scheme 2) To close IAC valve pintle, repeatedly ground terminals S1, S2, S3 and S4 in sequence. To open IAC valve pintle, repeatedly ground terminals S4, S3, S2 and S1 in sequence. Replace IAC valve if pintle does not open and close as specified.
