INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Scheme 403: PROCEDURE
  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED) Drive the vehicle and check whether the operation of the speedometer in the combination meter assembly is normal. HINT: The vehicle speed sensor is operating normally if the speedometer reading is normal. If the speedometer does not operate, check it by following the procedure described for a speedometer malfunction. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Data List / Vehicle Speed. Drive the vehicle. Read the value displayed on the Techstream. OK Vehicle speeds displayed on tester and speedometer display are equal. NG --> See step 2 OK --> See step 6
  2. CHECK COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (SPD SIGNAL WAVEFORM) Inspect the combination meter assembly using an oscilloscope. Move the shift lever to N. Jack up the vehicle. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Measure the voltage between the terminal of the combination meter assembly and the body ground while the wheel is turned slowly. Standard Voltage Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition H14-19 (+S) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Voltage generated intermittently TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Component with harness connected (Combination Meter Assembly) HINT: The output voltage should fluctuate up and down, similarly to the diagram, when the wheel is turned slowly.   3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - TCM) Disconnect the combination meter assembly connector. Disconnect the TCM connector. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard Resistance (Check for Open) Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition H14-9 (+S) - D6-3 (SPD) Always Below 1 ohms Reconnect the combination meter assembly connector. HINT

  1. The following troubleshooting flowchart is based on the premise that the engine is cranked normally. If the engine does not crank, proceed to the problem symptoms table.Refer to «PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [06/2012 - ]»(ref-598472-S12013296402014021400000) .
  2. Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The TCM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction.Refer to «FREEZE FRAME DATA [06/2012 - ]»(ref-598472-S37095654262014021400000) .

If DTCs P0711 and P2610 are output simultaneously, confirm that the ATF temperature is as specified in "Normal Condition" using the Techstream first. When the ATF temperature is as specified in "Normal Condition", perform troubleshooting for DTC P2610.Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [06/2012 - ] . When DTC P0713 is output and the Techstream indicates -40°C (-40°F), there is an open circuit. Measure the resistance between terminal THO1 (OT) and body ground. Temperature Displayed Malfunction -40°C (-40°F) Open circuit 150°C (302°F) or more Short circuit HINT: If a circuit related to the ATF temperature sensor becomes open, P0713 is immediately set (in 0.5 seconds). When P0713 is set, P0711 cannot be detected. It is not necessary to inspect the circuit when P0711 is set.

This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests.

Scheme 409: INSPECTION PROCEDURE
  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST Warm up the engine. Turn the engine switch off. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Active Test. According to the display on the Techstream, perform the Active Test. Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note Activate the Lock Up Controls the shift solenoid SLU and SL to set the automatic transaxle to the lock-up condition. ON/OFF Can be used to check SLU and SL solenoid operation. [Vehicle Condition] Throttle valve opening angle: Less than 20% Vehicle speed:60 km/h (37 mph) or more, and 6th gear HINT: This test can be conducted when the vehicle speed is 60 km/h (37 mph) or more. Lightly depress the accelerator pedal and check that the engine speed does not change abruptly. HINT: When changing the accelerator pedal opening angle while driving, if the engine speed does not change, lock-up is on. Slowly release, but not fully, the accelerator pedal in order to decelerate. (Fully releasing the pedal will close the throttle valve and lock-up may be turned off.)

HINT

Using the Techstream to perform Active Tests allows relays, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests.

  1. ACTIVE TEST Warm up the engine. Turn the engine switch off. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Active Test. According to the display on the Techstream, perform the Active Test. Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note Activate the Lock Up Control the shift solenoid SLU and SL to set the automatic transaxle to the lock-up condition. ON/OFF Can be used to check SLU and SL solenoid operation. [Vehicle Condition] Throttle valve opening angle: Less than 20% Vehicle speed:60 km/h (37 mph) or more, and 6th gear HINT: This test can be conducted when the vehicle speed is 60 km/h (37 mph) or more. Lightly depress the accelerator pedal and check that the engine speed does not change abruptly. HINT: When changing the accelerator pedal opening angle while driving, if the engine speed does not change, lock-up is on. Slowly release, but not fully, the accelerator pedal in order to decelerate. (Fully releasing the pedal will close the throttle valve and lock-up may be turned off.)

In this case, the freeze frame data output from the TCM has not been updated, so the data will not be useful for the inspection. However, reading the Data List as the first step in troubleshooting is effective to find malfunctions.

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TCM - BODY GROUND) Disconnect the TCM connector. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
