MEMORY SYSTEM

The memory seat ECU effects control by memorizing 2 seat positions and outside rear view mirror position. (Scheme 40) There is a mechanism to detect the seat position, in which the memory seat ECU converts the driving current pulsations generated by the rotation of the motor into pulse signals. (Scheme 41)

A pulse generation circuit in the memory seat ECU converts the driving current pulsations that are generated by the rotation of the motor into pulse signals. (Scheme 42) These signals are then picked up in order to detect the seat position. As a result, the construction of the system has been simplified.

System Outline

Current is always applied from ECU-B fuse to terminal SYSB of the memory seat ECU, from PWR SEAT fuse to terminal +B of the memory seat ECU.

With the ignition switch turned on, current flows from ECU-IG fuse to terminal IG of the memory seat ECU and from the GAUGE2 fuse to terminal No. 3 of the A/T indicator light switch.

SEAT HEATER SWITCHES

To turn on the seat heater, push the switch. The ignition switch must be in the ON position. Each time you push the switch, the mode changes in order from the HI (high heating temperature) mode to LO (low heat temperature) mode to off. The seat heater automatically changes to off mode when the ignition switch is turned to the ACC or LOCK position. When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position again, the seat heater remains off until the switch is pushed.

The HI, LO and OFF settings of the seat heater can be switched by pressing the seat heater switch (for driver or front passenger). Based on the signals from the temperature sensor that is built into the seat heater, the air conditioning ECU turns the built-in seat heater relay ON/OFF in order to regulate the temperature that suits the set mode. (Scheme 45) A seat heater switch with a built-in indicator light for checking the heater operation (OFF, LO or HI) is provided.

PROGRAMMING

The micro computer can memorize the positions of the driver's seat and outside rear view mirrors. Two different driving position profiles can be entered into the computer's memory.

Recording a driving position in the computer's memory can only be done when the ignition key is in the ON position and the selector lever is in the P position.

SETTING DRIVING POSITION

  1. Adjust the driver's seat and the outside rear view mirrors to the desired position.
  2. While pushing the SET button, push button 1 or 2 until the signal beeps. The beep sound means that the positions are recorded in the computer's memory. By repeating these 2 steps and pressing the remaining button, the driving position for another driver can be recorded. To set a new memorized position, select the desired position, and perform step 2). The previous memory will be erased and the new position will be set. To make only slight changes to an already memorized position, the easiest way is to first activate the memorized position, then make the desired changes and perform step 2) above.

ACTIVATING MEMORIZED POSITION

CAUTIONDo not start the vehicle while the adjustments are being made. Take care not to select the wrong button, or the seat could strike the rear passenger or hit your body against the steering wheel. If this happens, you can stop the movement by pressing another driving position memory switch.

When you push the 1 or 2 button, the driving position will be automatically adjusted to the position recorded for that button.

Conditions For Memorized Position Activation

  1. Ignition key ON and selector lever in P position.
  2. Ignition switch off and within 30 seconds of opening driver's door.

If any driving position memory switch is pushed while one of the memorized driving position profiles is being activated, the operation will stop. To activate the system, push the desired button (1 or 2) again.

The driving position memory control system cannot be operated while the vehicle is moving. If the vehicle's battery is disconnected, the computer's memory will be erased and the memorized positions will have to be set again.

Using A/C Control Panel Switches

  1. While pressing and holding AUTO and fresh/recirculated air switches simultaneously, turn ignition on. see scheme 11 Indicators will flash on and off at one second intervals 4 times in succession. After indicator check is complete, system will automatically enter self-diagnostic mode. Press OFF button to cancel indicator check.
  2. Stored trouble DTCs will appear in sequence on temperature display panel. See «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS»(ref-152272-S42899075582003012700000) table. Press front defrost switch to display DTCs one at a time. Press OFF button to exit self-diagnostics. To clear DTC(s), see «CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES»(ref-152272-S19058796972003012800000).

Using Hand-Held Tester

  1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3 located under the left side of the instrument panel. (Scheme 47) Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester switch ON. Use scan tool to check the DTCs and freeze frame data; note them down. See tester's operator's manual for specific operating instructions. Clear DTCs.   2. Operate system for which the complaint was recorded to see if fault can be recreated. If same DTC is displayed and fault is present, problem is current in diagnostic circuit, diagnose and repair DTC. See «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS»(ref-152272-S42899075582003012700000) table. If same DTC is not received and no symptoms are present, original DTC was a history code signifying that problem occurred in circuit some time in the past or is a secondary problem. If same DTC is not received, but fault is still present, problem is still occurring somewhere other than current diagnostic circuit. Diagnose and repair problem based on existing symptoms: If the display shows UNABLE TO CONNECT TO VEHICLE when you have connected the cable of the hand-held tester to the DLC3, turned the ignition switch ON and operated the hand-held tester, there is a problem on the vehicle side or tool side. If the communication is normal when the tool is connected to another vehicle, inspect the DLC3 of the original vehicle. If the communication is still impossible when the tool is connected to another vehicle, the problem is probably in the tool itself, so consult the Service Department listed in the tool's instruction manual.
  3. If the same DTC is not received and the fault is not present, the fault may have occurred in the wiring harness or connector in the past. Check connectors for loose, damaged or corroded terminals.

To clear the DTC, during sensor check, press the FRONT DEF and REAR DEF switches simultaneously.
