INSPECTION/SERVICE INTERVALS
DRIVE BELT INSPECTION
Note. All models are equipped with automatic belt tensioner. Belt tension adjustment is not required. If belt is removed and reinstalled, ensure direction of belt rotation is not changed.
- Using a belt tension gauge, check drive belt tension. Check belt tension several times at the same point away from tensioner. Start and run engine between each check. On a used belt and tensioner without A/C, tension should be 60.7 lbs. (27.5 kg). On a used belt and tensioner with A/C, tension should be 66.3 lbs. (30.1 kg). If belt tension is as specified, go to next step. If belt tension is not as specified, replace belt tensioner.
- If belt tensioner arm and spring case are touching, replace belt tensioner. If belt tensioner is okay, start engine and allow to idle. Normal belt tensioner movement or bounce should be approximately 0.2" (5.0 mm). If tensioner movement is 0.5" (12.0 mm) or more, replace belt tensioner.
ENGINE COMPRESSION
Note. Engine compression specification is not available from manufacturer.
VALVE CLEARANCE
Note. All models are equipped with hydraulic lifters. No adjustments are required.
IGNITION COIL
Primary ignition coil resistance is 0.8 ohms and secondary ignition coil resistance is 12,000-14,600 ohms @ 68°F (20°C)
SPARK PLUGS
Spark pug type is RN11YCC. Spark plug gap is 0.035-0.040 In. (0.90-1.00 mm). Tighten spark pug to 15 Ft. Lbs. (20 N.m)

IGNITION TIMING
Note. Ignition timing is controlled by Land Rover's Generic Engine Management System (GEMS) and is not adjustable.
FUEL PUMP
Regulated fuel pressure is 34-37 psi.

BASE IDLE SPEED
Note. Before checking idle speed and mixture ensure air and fuel filters are okay. Check vacuum pipes and hoses for correct routing, leaks and/or restriction. Check ignition system for poor connections or loose wires. Perform repairs as necessary.
Check base idle speed using a Land Rover TestBook. If necessary to adjust idle speed, locate by-pass screw in plenum chamber. Using a self-tapping screw, remove tamper-proof plug covering by-pass screw. Use TestBook to monitor idle speed while turning by-pass screw. Ensure there are no loads, the transmission is in Park or Neutral and air suspension (if equipped) is in standard position and disabled. Install NEW tamper-proof plug over by-pass screw after rechecking idle speed.
IDLE MIXTURE
Note. Idle mixture is controlled by GEMS through the ECM. Mixture is not adjustable, but should be checked as part of normal tune-up procedure using an exhaust gas analyzer. If vehicle is not within specifications, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Always refer to SERVICE INFORMATION underhood label in engine compartment. If underhood label differs from these specifications, always use underhood label specifications.
