Note. Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.

- Remove the engine cover (A). (Scheme 20): Identifying Engine Cover
- Recover refrigerant, opening the high & low pressure pipe caps and connecting the refrigerant station (Refer to «AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM»(ref-380232) ).
- Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery and remove the battery (A). (Scheme 21): Identifying Battery
- Remove the intake air hose and air cleaner assembly. Disconnect the MAF connector (A). Disconnect the breather hose (B) from air cleaner hose. Remove the intake air hose and air cleaner assembly (C). (Scheme 22): Identifying MAF Connector
- Remove the battery tray (A). (Scheme 23): Identifying Battery Tray
- Remove the radiator grille upper cover (A). (Scheme 24): Identifying Radiator Grille Upper Cover
- Disconnect the RH and LH oxygen sensor connectors (A, B). (Scheme 25): Identifying Oxygen Sensor (Scheme 26): Identifying Oxygen Sensor
- Remove the radiator upper and lower hoses (A). (Scheme 27): Identifying Radiator Upper And Lower Hoses
- Disconnect the automatic transaxle fluid cooler hoses (A). (Scheme 28): Identifying Automatic Transaxle Fluid Cooler Hoses
- Disconnect the high and low pressure pipes from the radiator or the compressor.
- Disconnect engine wiring. Remove the engine room fuse and relay box cover (A). Disconnect the PCM connectors (B). Disconnect the FAM connectors (C). (Scheme 29): Identifying Relay Box Cover Unscrew the FAM mounting bolts (D-3EA) and take the FAM (E) out of the splash shield (F). Disconnect the connector (G) from the splash shield (B). (Scheme 30): Identifying FAM Mounting Bolts
- Disconnect the transaxle wire harness connector and remove the transaxle control cable (Refer to «AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SYSTEM»(ref-380171) ).
- Remove heater hose (A). (Scheme 31): Identifying Heater Hose
- Remove the brake vacuum hose (A). (Scheme 32): Identifying Brake Vacuum Hose
- Remove power steering pump hose (Refer to «STEERING COLUMN AND SHAFT»(ref-380183) ).
- Remove front wheels (Refer to «TIRES/WHEELS»(ref-380180) ).
- Remove the radiator grille upper cover (A) for convenience sake. (Scheme 33): Identifying Radiator Grille Upper Cover
- Disconnect the power steering return hose (A). (Scheme 34): Identifying Power Steering Return Hose
- Remove the radiator support upper member assembly (A) for convenience sake. (Scheme 35): Identifying Radiator Support Upper Member Assembly NOTE: The bottom side bolt (A) which can be seen after removing the under cover should be loosened for removal of the radiator support upper member assembly. (Scheme 36): Identifying Bottom Side Bolt
- Remove the under cover (A). (Scheme 37): Identifying Under Cover
- Drain engine oil.
- Coolant should be drained before heater hose removal.
- Remove front exhaust pipe (A). (Scheme 38): Identifying Front Exhaust Pipe
- Disconnect the wheel speed sensor and the stabilizer bar link (Refer to «STEERING COLUMN AND SHAFT»(ref-380183) ).
- Remove the caliper assembly and suspend it with a wire (Refer to «DRIVESHAFT ASSEMBLY»(ref-380174) ).
- Supporting the engine and transaxle assembly with sub frame, remove the engine mounting bracket (A). (Scheme 39): Identifying Engine Mounting Bracket
- Remove the transaxle insulator mounting bolt (A). (Scheme 40): Identifying Transaxle Insulator Mounting Bolt
- Supporting the engine and transaxle assembly with a jack, remove the sub frame with the engine and transaxle assembly. NOTE: When remove the engine and transaxle assembly, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components.
INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
Perform the following
- Adjust the shift cable.
- Refill the engine with engine oil.
- Refill the transaxle with fluid.
- Refill the radiator with engine coolant.
- Bleed air from the cooling system with the heater valve open.
- Clean the battery posts and cable terminals with sandpaper assemble them, then apply grease to prevent corrosion.
- Inspect for fuel leakage. After assembling the fuel line, turn on the ignition switch (do not operate the starter) so that the fuel pump runs for approximately two seconds and fuel line pressurizes. Repeat this operation two or three times, then check for fuel leakage at any point in the fuel line.
