REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| WARNING | Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM article in RESTRAINTS. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy. |
Note. Anytime battery cables are disconnected from battery and then reconnected, theft deterrent system will operate (horn will sound and emergency lights will flash for about 3 minutes). To disarm system, insert ignition key and turn key to ACC position.
Note. Combination switch may also be referred to as multifunction switch.
Remove steering wheel and air bag module. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM article in RESTRAINTS. Remove steering column covers. Disconnect combination switch harness connectors. Remove combination switch screws. Remove combination switch. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Disconnect negative battery cable. Deactivate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM article in RESTRAINTS. Remove steering column covers. Remove lower covers. Remove entire lower section of instrument panel and lower steering column. Using chisel, make slot in mounting screws to accommodate screwdriver. Remove screws mounting ignition switch to steering column. Disconnect ignition switch harness connectors. Remove ignition switch. To install, reverse removal procedure.
