DESCRIPTION
Note. Self-diagnostic tests are written specifically for Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box (DRBIII(R)) scan tool. A generic scan tool may not be capable of performing all necessary test functions.
The body control computer system consists of a combination of modules that communicate over the Programmable Communication Interface (PCI) bus system. Through the PCI bus, information related to the operation of vehicle components and circuits is communicated. Each module uses information as necessary. This reduces the complexity of vehicle wiring and size of wiring harness.
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) are accessed through a 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) using Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box (DRBIII(R)) scan tool or generic scan tool. (Scheme 1)
Modules connected to the DLC through the PCI bus circuit are as follows
- Air Bag Control Module (ACM)
- Electro-Mechanical Instrument Cluster (EMIC)
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
- Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM)

CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
Note. For terminal identification of body control system connectors (Scheme 2)- (Scheme 22). Connector terminal numbers are molded into connectors. If connector terminal identification differs from that shown in figure, use wire colors to ensure correct circuit is being tested.

General Information
SECURED ACCESS mode is not required to check programmed status of key.
If Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is replaced, unique secret key data must be transferred from Smart Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) to PCM. This procedure requires SKIM to be placed in SECURED ACCESS mode using 4-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) code.
If 3 attempts are made to enter secured access mode using an incorrect PIN, SECURED ACCESS mode will be locked out for one hour. To exit lock out mode, turn ignition switch to RUN position continuously for one hour. Ensure all accessories are turned off. Monitor battery state and connect battery charger if necessary.
To program smart keys using "customer programming method" requires 2 valid smart keys. See PROGRAMMING BLANK SENTRY KEYS USING CUSTOMER LEARN METHOD .
