With wiper arm(s) removed, cycle wiper motor into park position. Mount wiper arm(s) on pivot shaft(s). On front wiper arm, ensure distance between tip of wiper blade and upper edge of lower windshield molding is as specified. On rear wiper arm, ensure distance between tip of wiper blade and upper edge of lower liftgate glass seal is as specified. See WIPER ARM HEIGHT SPECIFICATIONS table.
Wrangler
With wiper arm(s) removed, cycle wiper motor to park position. Mount wiper arm(s) on pivot shaft(s). On front wiper arms, ensure distance between tip of wiper blade and upper edge of lower windshield blackout area is as specified. On rear wiper arms, ensure distance between tip of wiper arm and upper edge of liftglass is as specified. See WIPER ARM HEIGHT SPECIFICATIONS table.

SYSTEM TESTS
| WARNING | Vehicle is equipped with an air bag restraint system. Failure to follow air bag service precautions may result in air bag deployment and personal injury. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy. |
| CAUTION | When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery. |
- Check circuit breaker No. 30 (20-amp) in junction block. Junction block is located behind right kick panel. Replace circuit breaker as necessary and recheck wiper operation. If circuit breaker is okay, disconnect wiper switch connector, turn ignition on and measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 5 (Dark Blue wire) at wiper switch harness connector. (Scheme 11) If battery voltage does not exist, repair open Dark Blue wire between junction block and wiper switch. If battery voltage exists, go to next step.
- If problem being diagnosed involves only pulse wipe, wipe after wash, or intermittent wipe modes, go to next step. If problem being diagnosed is other than pulse wipe, wipe after wash, or intermittent wipe modes, go to step 4.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 1 (Black wire) at wiper switch harness connector. If continuity exists, replace faulty wiper switch. If continuity does not exist, repair open Black wire.
- Turn ignition off. Remove wiper switch. Check continuity between appropriate wiper switch terminals with switch in specified positions. See «WIPER SWITCH CONTINUITY (CHEROKEE)»(ref-96293-S23953782242001040600000) table. (Scheme 12) Replace switch as necessary. If switch is okay, go to «FRONT WIPER MOTOR TEST»(ref-96293-S37916971392001040600000).

WIPER SWITCH CONTINUITY (CHEROKEE)

- Remove and inspect fuse No. 14 (25-amp) from junction block. Junction block is located behind glove box. Replace fuse as necessary and recheck wiper operation. If fuse is okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect wiper switch connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 4 (Pink/Black wire) at wiper switch harness connector. (Scheme 13) If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Pink/Black wire between junction block and wiper switch connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step.
- If problem being diagnosed involves only pulse wipe, wipe after wash, or intermittent wipe modes, go to next step. If problem being diagnosed is other than pulse wipe, wipe after wash, or intermittent wipe modes, go to step 5.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 1 (Black wire) at wiper switch harness connector. If continuity exists, replace faulty wiper switch. If continuity does not exist, repair open Black wire.
- Turn ignition off. Remove wiper switch. Check continuity between appropriate wiper switch terminals with switch in specified positions. See «WIPER SWITCH CONTINUITY (WRANGLER)»(ref-96293-S37749771302001040900000) table. (Scheme 14) Replace switch as necessary. If switch is okay, go to «FRONT WIPER MOTOR TEST»(ref-96293-S37916971392001040600000).

WIPER SWITCH CONTINUITY (WRANGLER)

- Remove liftgate trim panel. Disconnect rear wiper motor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 4 (Brown/Pink wire) at rear wiper motor harness connector. (Scheme 15) If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Brown/Pink wire. If battery voltage exists, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 1 (Black wire) at rear wiper motor harness connector. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 3 (Brown/Light Green wire) at rear wiper motor harness connector. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Brown/Light Green wire. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
- Check continuity of Brown/Light Green wire between terminals No. 3 at rear wiper motor harness connector and No. 4 at rear wiper switch harness connector. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Brown/Light Green wire. If continuity exists, replace faulty rear wiper motor.
Scheme 15
- Remove rear wiper motor cover. Disconnect rear wiper motor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 1 (Brown/Pink wire) at rear wiper motor harness connector. (Scheme 16) If battery voltage does not exist, repair open circuit. If battery voltage exists, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 2 (Black wire) at rear wiper motor harness connector. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 3 (Brown/Light Green wire) at rear wiper motor harness connector. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Brown/Light Green wire. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
- Check continuity of Brown/Light Green wire between terminals No. 3 at rear wiper motor harness connector and No. 4 at rear wiper switch harness connector. If continuity does not exist, repair open Brown/Light Green wire. If continuity exists, replace faulty rear wiper motor.
