Power Mirrors: Overview Jeep Cherokee III

Mirrors ~166 words

DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

Right and left mirrors are controlled by a single multifunction switch on driver's door trim panel. On vehicles with power windows and door lock options, multifunction switch is integral to Driver's Door Module (DDM). On vehicles without power windows and door lock options, a stand-alone switch is used. A 3-position rocker-type switch is moved to select left mirror control, right mirror control or center to turn power mirrors off. One of 4 directional control buttons is depressed to control movement of selected mirror up, down, left or right. Each power mirror contains an electric motor and drive mechanism. One motor controls up/down movement, and other controls right/left movement. Power mirrors may be equipped with a heating element for defogging. Heating function is activated by rear window defogger switch. See REAR WINDOW & MIRROR DEFOGGERS - CHEROKEE article for more information. Power mirrors receive battery voltage through a fuse, and will only operate with ignition switch in ON or ACC positions.
