Removal (SOHC): Overview Isuzu Trooper II

  1. Release fuel pressure. See «FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE»(ref-49505-S39856681012001011500000) . Disconnect battery cables. Mark hood and hood hinge for reassembly reference. Remove hood from vehicle.
  2. Drain engine coolant and oil. Remove air cleaner assembly. Remove the accelerator pedal cable by disconnecting from throttle body and cable bracket. Remove vacuum booster hose by disconnecting from common chamber. Disconnect manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor, idle air control valve (IACV), throttle position sensor (TPS), power switch and electronic vacuum sensing valve (EVSV) connectors. Remove throttle body by removing 4 fixing bolts. Disconnect canister EVSV vacuum hoses, positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose, fuel pressure control valve (FPCV) hose and shift on the fly hose. Remove the ventilation hose bracket by removing fixing bolt on common chamber. Remove the EGR valve assembly by removing 3 bolts on common chamber and disconnect backpressure transducer vacuum hose. Remove the bracket by removing 3 fixing bolts at backside of the common chamber, 1 fixing bolt at engine hanger bracket and 1 fixing bolt at A/T pipe bracket. Remove common chamber by removing 6 bolts and 2 nuts.
  3. Disconnect feed and return fuel hoses from fuel pipes and remove 2 bracket fixing bolts on the cylinder head cover. Disconnect fuel injector and thermo sensor connectors.
  4. Remove upper and lower intake manifolds. See «UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD»(ref-49505-S34126452612001011500000) and «LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD»(ref-49505-S22151516482001011500000) .
  5. Disconnect coolant manifold from rear of cylinder heads by disconnecting heater hose and 4 fixing bolts. Remove all accessory drive belts. Remove power steering pump and cooling fan pulley assembly.
  6. Using Puller (J-8614-01), remove crankshaft pulley bolt and pulley. Remove oil cooler hose from timing cover by removing 2 cooler hose bracket fixing bolts. Remove timing belt cover and pusher (pusher rod must always face upward). Remove timing belt. See «TIMING BELT»(ref-49505-S12092104192001011500000) . Remove cylinder head covers. See «CYLINDER HEAD COVERS»(ref-49505-S37821940222001011500000) . Remove power steering bracket by disconnecting ground cable and 5 fixing bolts. Disconnect front exhaust pipes from both exhaust manifolds, if not already removed. Remove level gage guide tube fixing bolt. Remove cylinder head bolts. Remove cylinder heads and gasket.
