EXCEPT HOMBRE

Note. Rear riding height inspection procedures and specifications for Amigo, Rodeo, Trooper and VehiCROSS are not available from manufacturer.

  1. To measure front riding height, jounce vehicle several times and allow suspension to settle. Obtain dimension "Z" by subtracting dimension "A" from dimension "B". (Scheme 1) Dimension "Z" is true front riding height.
  2. Ensure front riding height is within specification. See «RIDING HEIGHT SPECIFICATIONS (EXCEPT HOMBRE)»(ref-5210-S21829520912000080900000) table. If front riding height is not within specification, adjust height control arms by rotating adjusting bolts. (Scheme 2) If correct riding height cannot be obtained by adjustment, inspect suspension components for damage or wear. Replace components as necessary and recheck.
ApplicationFront "Z" - In. (mm)

HOMBRE

  1. To check front riding height, lift front bumper up about 1.5" (38 mm), gently release and let vehicle settle on its own. Repeat 2 more times. On 2WD models, measure front riding height dimension "Z" between center of front lower control arm bolt and lower inboard corner of lower ball joint. (Scheme 3) On 4WD models, measure front riding height dimension "Z" between center line of pivot bolt and lowest inboard edge of steering knuckle. (Scheme 4) Record measurement.
  2. Push front bumper down about 1.5" (38 mm), gently release and let vehicle rise on its own. Repeat 2 more times. Measure dimension "Z" once more. Average of high and low measurements is true "Z" measurement. Ensure front riding height is within specification. See «RIDING HEIGHT SPECIFICATIONS (HOMBRE)»(ref-5210-S14932048962000080900000) table.
  3. To check rear riding height, lift rear bumper up about 1.5" (38 mm), gently release and let vehicle settle on its own. Repeat 2 more times. Measure rear riding height dimension "D" between rubber bumper bracket and top of rear axle housing tube. (Scheme 5) Record measurement.
  4. Push rear bumper down about 1.5" (38 mm), gently release and let vehicle rise on its own. Repeat 2 more times. Measure dimension "D" once more. Average of high and low measurements is true "D" measurement. Ensure rear riding height is within specification. See «RIDING HEIGHT SPECIFICATIONS (HOMBRE)»(ref-5210-S14932048962000080900000) table.
  5. Riding height is adjustable on front suspension of 4WD models only. To adjust, rotate torsion arm adjusting bolt as needed. (Scheme 6) One turn increases "Z" height by.236" (6 mm). For non-adjustable applications, inspect suspension components for damage or wear. Replace components as necessary and recheck.

EMERGENCY JACKING

When changing front tire, position jack under front crossmember. When changing rear tire, position jack under rear axle housing, near wheel.

HOIST

See FLOOR JACK .

Except Hombre (4WD)

Adjust camber by inserting or removing equal shim thickness from both pivot bolts between upper control arm pivot shaft and frame. (Scheme 9)

Hombre (4WD)

Adjust camber by rotating control arm cam lobes equal amounts in the same direction. (Scheme 10)

Adjust caster by transferring equal shim thickness between front and rear upper control arm pivot shaft bolts. (Scheme 9)

Scheme 9

Scheme 9: Except Hombre (4WD)

Adjust caster by rotating control arm cam lobes equal amounts in the opposite direction. (Scheme 10)
