FUEL SYSTEM

WARNINGAlways relieve fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel injection-related component. DO NOT allow fuel to contact electrical parts while testing fuel system components.

FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE

  1. Loosen fuel filler cap to relieve tank pressure. Remove fuel pump relay. See «FUEL PUMP RELAY LOCATION»(ref-16374-S06403283702000122900000) .
  2. Start engine and allow it to run until it stalls. Loosen hose clamp of fuel line on side of pressure regulator coming from fuel line inlet distributor pipe.
  3. Cover fuel hose using a shop towel. Slowly pull hose from pressure regulator to relieve fuel pressure. When fuel stops leaking, reinstall hose and clamp.

FUEL PUMP

CAUTIONOn 2.2L Hombre, extreme care must be used when lowering fuel tank. Fuel sender is made of plastic and may be damaged when lowering fuel tank.

FUEL RAIL & FUEL INJECTORS

CAUTIONTo prevent damage to fuel injectors retaining bracket and/or fuel injectors, DO NOT try to remove fuel injectors by lifting up fuel injector retaining bracket while fuel injectors are still installed in bracket slots. DO NOT attempt to remove bracket without first removing fuel pressure regulator.
WARNINGTo reduce risk of fire, verify lower (small) "O" ring of each injector does not remain in lower manifold. If "O" ring is not removed with injector, replacement injector, with NEW "O" rings, will not seat properly in injector socket and could cause a fuel leak.

Note. Each injector is calibrated for a specific flow rate. When replacing fuel injectors, order replacements with identical part number as old injectors.

Adjusting Cable At Throttle Body

  1. Loosen adjusting and jam nuts. Pull on cable while fully closing throttle valve. Tighten adjusting and jam nuts.
  2. Loosen adjusting nut by 3 turns and tighten jam nut again. Valve lever must return up to stopper screw. If valve lever does not reach stopper screw, repeat adjustment procedure.
