(1) B1 Indicates Left Bank. (2) B2 Indicates Right Bank. (3) Freeze frame data will not be stored in the ECM for the knock sensor. The MIL will not light for a knock sensor malfunction. (4) In case of the diagnostic item, the freeze frame data will not be stored in the ECM. This diagnosis does not have 2 trip detection logic, and will not light up the MIL. (5) See appropriate AUTO TRANS DIAGNOSIS or AUTO TRANS OVERHAUL article for test procedures. (6) DTC is for California (CA) emission vehicles only. (7) DTC is for Federal emission vehicles only.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) IDENTIFICATION

PCM monitors switching of front and rear HO2S for each bank. (Scheme 8) A TWC with high oxygen storage capacity indicates low switching of rear HO2S. As oxygen storage capacity decreases, rear HO2S switching increases. PCM then measures switching lag time between front and rear HO2S. Longer lag time indicates greater oxygen storage capacity. If lag time is within specified range, defective TWC is indicated.

  1. Check Injectors - Ensure exhaust system leaks are not present. Start engine and warm to operating temperature. Turn engine off. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and PCM connector terminals No. 1-8 and 14. (Scheme 7) If battery voltage is present at each terminal, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present at each terminal, repair harness or connector as necessary. Turn ignition off.
  2. Check Ignition Spark - Remove ignition coil assembly from rocker cover, leaving wiring harness connected. Connect a spark tester to coil assembly. Crank engine and check for good spark. If good spark is present, go to next step. If spark is not present, test ignition coil. See IGNITION CHECKS in «BASIC TESTING»(ref-18054) article. Repair or replace as necessary.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove injector assembly, keeping fuel hoses and all injectors connected. Disconnect Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor. Turn ignition on. Verify fuel is not dripping from any injector. Replace any injector from which fuel is dripping. If all injectors are okay, check for poor connections or intermittent problem. If no fault is found, replace TWC.
