Power Windows: Overview Infiniti I35 II

Windows 1 illustration ~773 words

DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

Power windows are operated by main switches of driver's door main switch, or by individual sub-switch for each passenger window. Main switch controls driver's window, and can control operation of all passenger window motors. Individual sub-switches at each passenger door control the window for that door. The driver's door main switch incorporates a window lock-out feature which can disable all passenger window operation.

Automatic operation function is for driver's or passenger's window only. System lowers or raises window when window switch is fully lifted or depressed and released. If something is caught in window as it moves upward automatically, window reverses direction and lowers about 6 inches. Encoder and limit switch built into window regulator control interruption detection feature.

The power windows operate when the ignition key is in the ON position, or for about 45 seconds after the ignition key is turned to the OFF position. If the driver's or front passenger's door is opened during this period of about 45 seconds, power to the windows is cancelled. To open or close the window, push down or pull up the switch and hold it. The main switch (driver side switches) will open or close all the windows.

Power is supplied at all times from fusible link through a circuit breaker to power window relay. (Scheme 1) Power window motor operation is controlled by applying ground from main switch, through sub-switch (except driver's window) to power window motor. Power window lock switch disconnects all sub-switch ground circuits through the main switch, preventing passenger window motors from operating. Windows may be operated for up to 45 seconds after ignition is switched to OFF position.

Scheme 1: DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

Power is supplied at all times

  1. From 40-amp fusible link (letter "I", located in the fuse and fusible link box).
  2. To circuit breaker terminal No. 1.
  3. Through circuit breaker terminal No. 2.
  4. To power window relay terminal No. 3.
  5. To front power window main switch terminal No. 4.
  6. To front power window switch RH terminal No. 6.

With ignition switch in ON or START position, power is supplied

  1. Through 10-amp fuse No. 10, located in the fuse block (J/B).
  2. To rear power window switches terminal No. 7.
  3. To Smart Entrance Control Unit (SECU) terminal No. 27.

Ground is supplied to power window relay terminal No. 1 through body grounds M9, M25 and M87. For body ground locations, see WIRING DIAGRAMS .

Ground is supplied to the left rear power window switch terminal No. 8 through body grounds B7 and B46 (with rear sunshade), or B12 (without rear sunshade). For body ground locations, see WIRING DIAGRAMS .

Ground is supplied to the right rear power window switch terminal No. 8 through body grounds B106 and B127. For body ground locations, see WIRING DIAGRAMS .

The power window relay is energized and power is supplied

  1. Through power window relay terminal No. 5.
  2. To front power window main switch terminal No. 11.
  3. To right front power window switch terminal No. 13.
  4. To right and left rear power window switch terminal No. 5.

Power Window Opened/Closed Operation

When ignition key switch is OFF, front power window can be opened as the door key cylinder is kept fully turning to the UNLOCK direction or closed as the door key cylinder is kept fully turning to the LOCK direction.

The power window opening stops when the following operations are carried out

  1. While performing open/close the window, power window is stopped at the position as the door key cylinder is placed in Neutral position.
  2. When the ignition switch is turned ON while the power window opening is operated.

AUTO OPERATION

To fully open or close the front window, completely press or lift the switch and release it; it need not be held. The window will automatically open or close all the way. To stop the window, just press or lift the switch on the opposite side. The AUTO feature operates on the driver's and passenger's side window.

RETAINED POWER OPERATION

When the ignition switch is turned to OFF position from ON or START position, power is supplied for 45 seconds

  1. To power window relay terminal No. 2.
  2. From Smart Entrance Control Unit (SECU) terminal No. 46.

Ground is always supplied

  1. To power window relay terminal No. 2.
  2. Through body grounds M9, M25 and M87. For body ground location, see «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-154171-S11498328872003050700000) .

When power and ground are supplied, the power window relay continues to be energized, and the power windows can be operated.

The Retained Power (RAP) operation is cancelled when the driver or passenger side door is opened.

RAP signal's period can be changed by CONSULT-II.
