Mechanical 1 illustration ~368 words

Removal

  1. Release fuel pressure. See «FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE»(ref-8488-S39985979722000090100000) . Disconnect battery cables. Remove engine undercover and engine side cover. Drain cooling system and engine oil. Remove radiator.
  2. Remove accessory drive belts, generator and cooling fan assembly. Remove power steering pump, and secure aside. Disconnect necessary air intake hoses, vacuum hoses, fuel hoses, coolant hoses, control cables and electrical connectors.
  3. Discharge A/C system using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Ensure A/C compressor clutch electrical connector is disconnected. Remove A/C compressor. Remove refrigerant pipes as necessary.
  4. Raise and support vehicle. Remove starter motor. Remove necessary exhaust pipes for engine and transmission removal. Disconnect oil cooler lines, control linkages and electrical connections from transmission. Remove oil dipstick tube from transmission. NOTE: Check markings on heads of drive shaft bolts before removing. Bolts must be installed in original location.
  5. Mark drive shaft flanges at rear axle for installation reference. Remove retaining bolts and drive shaft. Plug drive shaft opening in transmission.
  6. Remove torque converter-to-flywheel bolts. Support transmission with transmission jack. Remove transmission crossmember located below transmission. Remove transmission support brace-to-cylinder block. Support engine with hoist.
  7. Remove transmission-to-cylinder block bolts. Remove transmission. Remove engine mount-to-frame nuts. Lower engine from vehicle.

Installation

To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Adjust all control cables, linkages as necessary. Check and fill and fluid levels as necessary.

  1. Release fuel pressure. See «FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE»(ref-8488-S39985979722000090100000). Remove engine undercover. Drain radiator and engine block. Remove Radiator and air duct hose. Separate accelerator control cable and Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) control cable from intake manifold collector.
  2. Remove necessary wires, hoses, valves and components for access to intake manifold collector and intake manifold. Remove spark plugs. Remove power steering pump..
  3. Remove fuel inlet and return hoses from fuel injector tube assembly. Disconnect all injector harness connections. Remove fuel tube assembly. Remove intake manifold/collector bolts in reverse order of tightening sequence. Remove intake manifold/collector and gasket. (Scheme 2) If required, remove throttle body from intake manifold collector.

Install intake manifold/collector using NEW gaskets, "O" rings and insulators. Tighten intake manifold/colector bolts to specification in reverse order of removal. (Scheme 2) See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
