AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE APPLICATIONS

Note. For proper ATF type and checking procedures, see appropriate AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SERVICING article.

  1. Remove drain plug, and drain transaxle fluid into appropriate container. Remove air cleaner assembly. Disconnect fluid cooler hoses on top of transaxle. Plug all fittings and lines to prevent dust or foreign matter from entering.
  2. Remove control and speedometer cables. Disconnect all electrical connectors from transaxle. Remove starter. Remove top transaxle-to-engine mounting bolts "A". (Scheme 19)
  3. Support engine from top, or by using floor jack from bottom. DO NOT damage engine oil pan. Remove transaxle top mounting bracket. Ensure transaxle is in Neutral.
  4. Remove center member support under engine. Remove lower bellhousing cover to access torque converter bolts. Index mark torque converter to drive plate and remove torque converter bolts. Push torque converter away from engine toward transaxle. Reinstall center member support under engine. DO NOT fully tighten bolts.
  5. Remove undercover panel(s). Remove both axle shaft assemblies. See appropriate article in DRIVE AXLES. Support transaxle with transmission jack. Remove lower transaxle-to-engine mounting bolts. Remove transaxle from vehicle.
  1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Before installing transaxle to engine, ensure torque converter is properly aligned with drive plate.
  2. Install transaxle-to-engine mounting bolts in correct locations. (Scheme 19) Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-8529-S06864975832000090800000).
  3. Refill transaxle fluid to correct level on dipstick. Adjust control cable. Check transaxle range switch adjustment. Recheck fluid level with transaxle at normal operating temperature. See appropriate AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SERVICING article.
