Removal & Installation - A/t Hyundai Excel I

  1. Remove battery and battery tray. Remove air cleaner case if necessary.
  2. Disconnect control cable from transaxle. Disconnect neutral safety switch connector, oil cooler hoses and all external electrical connectors from transaxle. Disconnect speedometer cable and wiring harness for starter motor. Remove starter.
  3. Remove upper transaxle-to-engine bolts. Lift vehicle and remove wheels. Drain transmission fluid and remove engine under cover. Remove strut bars and stabilizer bars from lower control arms. Remove right and left drive axle shafts from transaxle and secure them out of the way.
  4. Remove transmission dust cover. Index mark torque converter to drive plate and remove bolts connecting converter with drive plate. Push torque converter away from engine into transaxle.
  5. Secure transaxle with transmission jack and remove remaining transaxle-to-engine connecting bolts. Remove long bolt from transaxle insulator.
  6. Remove transaxle insulator and mounting brackets. Slide transaxle assembly to the right and lower to remove.

Reverse removal procedures and note the following: Be sure to install torque converter first to transaxle and then to engine. Refill transaxle fluid to specified level. Adjust control cables. Ensure that Neutral safety switch harness does not contact transaxle insulator bracket.
