Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the center instrument panel (I/P) air outlet bezel. Refer to «Instrument Panel Center Air Outlet Bezel Replacement»(ref-299121-S11204942162008092200000) .
  2. Remove the screws from the HVAC control module (2).
  3. Depress the HVAC control module tabs (3) and remove the HVAC control module (2) from the I/P (4).
  4. Reposition the HVAC control module (2) from the I/P panel (1).
  5. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the HVAC control module (2).

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the electrical connectors to the HVAC control module (2).
  2. Install the HVAC control module (2) to the I/P (1).
  3. Install the screws to the HVAC control module (2). Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1.9 N.m (17 lb in).
  4. Install the center I/P air outlet bezel. Refer to «Instrument Panel Center Air Outlet Bezel Replacement»(ref-299121-S11204942162008092200000) .
  5. Start the vehicle and let run for one minute.

Scheme 26: Auxiliary Heater and Air Conditioning Control Module Replacement

Preliminary Procedure: Remove the front floor console compartment bezel. Refer to Front Floor Console Compartment Bezel Replacement .
1AM/FM Stereo, Tape Player and Compact Disc Player Radio Control Screw (Qty: 4) NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice . Procedure: Tighten the fasteners equally to ensure the control assembly seats evenly. Tighten: 1.5 N.m (13 lb in)
2AM/FM Stereo, Tape Player and Compact Disc Player Radio Control Procedure: Disconnect the electrical connectors.
NOTE
Refer to Fastener Notice .

Note. In order to avoid actuator damage, DO NOT apply power to the actuator when it is not installed in the HVAC module.

  1. Remove the air distribution duct. Refer to «Air Distributor Duct Replacement»(ref-299130-S33740744542008092200000) .
  2. Disconnect the electrical connection from the recirculation actuator (1).
  3. Remove the recirculation actuator retaining screws.
  4. Remove the recirculation actuator.
  1. Install the recirculation actuator.
  2. Install the recirculation actuator retaining screws. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1.6 N.m (14 lb in).
  3. Connect the electrical connector to the recirculation actuator (1).
  4. Install the air distribution duct. Refer to «Air Distributor Duct Replacement»(ref-299130-S33740744542008092200000) .
  5. Re-calibrate the recirculation actuator. Refer to «Actuator Recalibration»(ref-299165-S10093001112008092200000) .

Scheme 27: Mode Actuator Replacement

Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Replacement . Remove the air outlet duct - floor LH. Refer to Floor Air Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side . Disconnect the electrical connector from the mode actuator.
1Mode Actuator Screw (Qty: 2) NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice . Tighten: 1.6 N.m (14 lb in)
2Mode Actuator Procedure: Re-calibrate the mode actuator. Refer to Actuator Recalibration . Tip: Mode actuator cam is now accessible.
NOTE
In order to avoid actuator damage, DO NOT apply power to the actuator when it is not installed in the HVAC module.

Separate the auxiliary HVAC case. Refer to Auxiliary Air Conditioning Evaporator and Blower Case Replacement - Outboard .
1Auxiliary Temperature Valve Procedure Note the location and routing of the wiring harness to ensure proper reinstallation. When replacing the HVAC case, transfer all necessary components.

Scheme 37: Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Replacement

Preliminary Procedure: Remove the Grille Refer to Grille Replacement .
1Ambient Air Temperature Sensor. Procedure: Disconnect electrical connector.
  1. Remove the left windshield garnish molding. Refer to «Windshield Side Garnish Molding Replacement»(ref-299118-S07160758442008092200000) .
  2. Remove the left sunshade. Refer to «Sunshade Replacement»(ref-299118-S18098601862008092200000) .
  3. Gently pull down the headliner.
  4. Remove the inside air temperature sensor from the headliner.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the inside air temperature sensor.
  6. Remove the inside air temperature sensor from the headliner.
  1. Install the inside air temperature sensor to the headliner.
  2. Connect the electrical connector to the inside air temperature sensor.
  3. Install the left sunshade. Refer to «Sunshade Replacement»(ref-299118-S18098601862008092200000) .
  4. Install the left windshield garnish molding. Refer to «Windshield Side Garnish Molding Replacement»(ref-299118-S07160758442008092200000) .
  1. Remove the I/P upper trim panel with windshield defroster nozzle grille. Refer to «Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel with Windshield Defroster Nozzle Grille Replacement»(ref-299121-S17861640412008092200000) .
  2. Remove the sun load sensor (2) from the I/P upper trim panel by turning 1/4 turn.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sun load sensor (3).
  1. Connect the electrical connector to the sun load sensor (3).
  2. Install the sun load sensor (2) to the I/P upper trim panel by turning 1/4 turn clockwise.
  3. Install the I/P upper trim panel with windshield defroster nozzle grille. Refer to «Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel with Windshield Defroster Nozzle Grille Replacement»(ref-299121-S17861640412008092200000) .
