Zone Selection

Zone selection is required to compensate for the difference between magnetic North and geographic North. This deviation is referred to as declination, the compass compensates for declination when you select the zone where the vehicle is located.

  1. Remove the headliner (see «HEADLINER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-333585-S23723750292009072100000) ).
  2. Disconnect the 6P connector (A) from the electrical compass unit (B).
  3. Remove the bolt (C), then pull out the electrical compass unit.
  4. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact. If the terminals are bent, loose, or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system. If the terminals looks OK, go to step 4 .
  5. Reconnect the connector to the electrical compass unit, turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and make these input tests at the connector. If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system. If all input tests prove OK, the electrical compass unit must be faulty; replace it.

Note. You should do this procedure any time the electrical compass unit is replaced. You should do this procedure in an open area away from buildings, power lines, and other vehicles. If you see the CAL indicator (A) and flashing azimuth (direction) indicator (B) appear in the display, the self-calibration is starting automatically. If the compass seems to be continually showing the wrong direction and is not self-calibrating, do the zone selection and calibration. Before you select the zone and calibrate the compass, check the No. 17 (20 A) and No. 23 (10 A) fuses in the under-hood fuse/relay box and the No. 35(10 A) and No. 36 (10 A) fuses in the under-dash fuse/relay box.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then press and hold the MENU button (A) until the beep (about 5 seconds) to change the display.
  2. Rotate the selector knob (B) to select ZONE (C) and press the selector knob to enter the selection. NOTE: If necessary, press the RETURN button (D) to return to the previous display. Pressing the MENU button cancels the compass setting mode.
  3. The display shows the currently selected zone number (A) between from 1 to 15. Find the zone for your area on the zone map. If the correct zone is not shown, turn the selector knob to cycle the zone lists up or down.
  4. Press the selector knob to decide the selected zone. Returning to the normal display, the zone selection mode ends. Calibration
  5. While ignition switch is in ON (II), then press and hold the MENU button (A) until the beep (about 5 seconds) to change the display.
  6. Rotate the selector knob (B) to select CALIBRATION (C) and press the selector knob to enter the selection. NOTE: If necessary, press the RETURN button (D) to return to the previous display. Pressing the MENU button cancels the compass setting mode.
  7. The display shows PUSH CAL START (A). Pressing the selector knob to begin the calibration, the azimuth display blinks and the CAL indicator (B) is shown below.
  8. Drive the vehicle slowly in two complete circles. When the calibration is successfully completed, the compass display stops blinking and the CAL indicator goes off.
