- Before testing, troubleshoot the multiplex control system (see «TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-290874-S31950025672008072200000) ).
- Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover (see «DRIVER'S DASHBOARD LOWER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-290806-S07762317602008072200000) ).
- Disconnect the under-dash fuse/relay box connectors O, Q, X and Y. NOTE: All connectors are shown from wire side of female terminals.
- Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact. If the terminals are bent, loose or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system. If the terminals look OK, go to step 5 .
- With the connectors still disconnected, make these input tests at the connector. If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system. If all the input tests prove OK, go to step 6 . - Reconnect the connectors to the under-dash fuse/relay box, and make these input tests at the appropriate connectors on the under-dash fuse/relay box. If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system. If all the input tests prove OK, the multiplex control unit must be faulty, replace the under-dash fuse/relay box assembly. Ignition Key Switch Test
Note. For more key-in beeper information, refer to CIRCUIT DIAGRAM and CONTROL UNIT INPUT TEST .
When the ignition key is in the ignition switch, the key-in beeper circuit of the multiplex control unit senses ground through the closed ignition key switch. When you open the driver's door, the beeper circuit senses ground through the closed door switch. When both switches are closed (driver's door and ignition), the key-in beeper in the gauge control module is activated.

- Remove the steering column upper and lower covers (see «STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-290814-S00238923752008072200000) ).
- Disconnect the 6P connector.
- Check for continuity between the No. 1 and No. 2 terminals. There should be continuity with the key in the ignition switch. There should be no continuity with the key removed.
- If the continuity is not as specified, replace the steering lock assembly.
Scheme 18
- Remove the steering column upper and lower covers (see «STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-290814-S00238923752008072200000) ).
- Disconnect the 6P connector.
- The LED should come on when power is connected to the No. 6 terminal and ground is connected to the No. 5 terminal.
- If the LED does not come on, replace the steering lock assembly.
