Deployment Tool Check

  1. Connect the yellow clips to both switch protector handles on the tool.
  2. Then connect the red lead to the positive battery post and the black lead to the negative battery post.
  3. Push the operation switch: The green light should come on, indicating that the tool is operating properly and is ready for use. If the red light stays on, the tool is faulty, and another one must be used for the procedure.
  4. Disconnect the tool clips and connectors from the protector handles and the battery.

  1. Set the front wheels are aligned straight ahead.
  2. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(ref-360074-S34095844792010042600000) ), then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.
  3. Remove the driver's airbag (see «DRIVER'S AIRBAG REPLACEMENT»(ref-360084-S33647640922010042600000) ).
  4. Disconnect the cable reel connector C (20P) on the cable reel subharness from the cable reel (A).
  5. Loosen the steering wheel bolt (B) three turns.
  6. Install a commercially available steering wheel puller on the steering wheel (see step 5 on 1 «STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL»(ref-360060-S07211135332010042600000) ).
  7. Remove the steering wheel puller, then remove the steering wheel bolt and steering wheel from the steering column.
  8. Remove the upper and lower column covers (see «COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSRALLATION»(ref-360087-S08368203492010042600000) ).
  9. Disconnect the cable reel connector B (4P) on the dashboard wire harness and cable reel connector A (20P) on the dashboard wire harness from the cable rest (C).
  10. Release the upper lock tab (A) under the cable reel connector with a 90 ° hook shaped tool (B). Slide the tool below the cable reel connector just above the lock tab. Release the lower lock tab (C), and slide the cable reel off the column.

  1. Before installing the steering wheel, make sure the front wheels are aligned straight ahead.
  2. Set the turn signal canceling sleeve (A) so that the projections (B) are aligned vertically.
  3. Carefully install the cable reel (C) on the steering column shaft. Then connect the cable reel connector A (20P) on the dashboard wire harness and cable reel connector B (4P) on the dashboard wire harness to the cable reel.
  4. Install the upper and lower column covers (see «COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSRALLATION»(ref-360087-S08368203492010042600000) ).
  5. Before installing the steering wheel, make sure the front wheels are pointing ahead, then center the cable reel (A). Do this by first rotating the cable reel clockwise until it stops. Then rotate it counterclockwise (about three turns) until the arrow mark (B) on the cable reel label points straight up.
  6. Position the two tabs (A) of the turn signal canceling sleeve (B) as shown, and install the steering wheel on to the steering column shaft, making sure the steering wheel hub (C) engages the pins (D) of the cable reel and tabs of the turn signal canceling sleeve. Do not tap on the steering wheel or steering column shaft when installing the steering wheel.
  7. Install the steering wheel bolt (A), and tighten it to the specified torque, then connect the cable reel connector C (20P) (B) to the cable reel. Make sure the wire harness is routed and fastened properly.
  8. Install the driver's airbag (see «DRIVER'S AIRBAG REPLACEMENT»(ref-360084-S33647640922010042600000) ).
  9. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(ref-360074-S34095844792010042600000) ).
  10. Clear any DTCs with the HDS (see «HOW TO CLEAR DTCS»(ref-360084-S05721145092010042600000) ).
  11. After installing the cable reel, confirm proper system operation: Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off. Make sure the horn and turn signal switches work properly. Make sure the steering wheel switches work properly. Make sure the horn works properly.
  12. After installation, check the steering wheel spoke angle. If the steering spoke angles to the right and left are not equal (steering wheel is not centered), correct the engagement of the wheel/column shaft splines.
