DTC P1780: Problem in Shift Control System Honda Crosstour I

Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot with the HDS, and review General Troubleshooting Information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
  3. Test-drive the vehicle with the shift lever in D, and let the transmission shift through all five gears. Slow down, and stop the wheels.
  4. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. NOTE: DTC PI 780 means there is one or more A/T DTCs stored for the shift control system. Are there other DTCs? YES -Refer to the troubleshooting as indicated by the DTC. NO -Go to next step.
  5. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «PCM UPDATE»(ref-360080-S11980508702010042600000) ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-360056-S32194616542010042600000) ).
  6. Test-drive the vehicle with the shift lever in D, and let the transmission shift through all five gears. Slow down, and stop the wheels.
  7. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P1780 indicated? YES -If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-360056-S32194616542010042600000) ), then go to step 6 . If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1 . NO -Go to next step.
  8. Monitor the OBD status for P1780 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the HDS indicate PASSED? YES -If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-360080-S27881728262010042600000) ). If any other DTCs were indicated in step 7 , go to the indicated DTCs troubleshooting. NO -If the HDS indicates FAILED, check for poor connections and loose terminals at the PCM. If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-360056-S32194616542010042600000) ), then go to step 6 . If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1 . If the HDS indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 6 .

Scheme 583: Road Test
  1. 4WD: Apply the parking brake, and block all four wheels. 2WD: Apply the parking brake, and block both rear wheels.
  2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on).
  3. Shift to the D while pressing the brake pedal. Press the accelerator pedal, and release it suddenly; The engine should not stall.
  4. Repeat step 3 in all shift lever positions.
  5. Connect the HDS to the DLC (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  7. Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM, and go to the A/T Date List. If it does not, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting (see «DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-360057-S07895027512010042600000) ).
  8. Prepare the HDS to take a HIGH SPEED SNAPSHOT (refer to the HDS user's guide for more details if needed): Select High Speed icon. Select these parameters: -Speed Icon Vehicle Speed Output shaft (Countershaft) Speed (rpm) Engine Speed TP Sensor APP Sensor A (V) ETR Battery Voltage Shift Control Brake Switch Shift the Trigger Type to Parameter. Adjust the Parameter setting to APP Sensor A above 1.1 V. Set the recording time to 60 seconds. Set the trigger point to (Negative) -30 seconds.
  9. Find a suitable level road. When you are ready to do the test, press OK with the HDS.
  10. Accelerate quickly until APP Sensor A reads 1.2 V. Maintain a steady throttle until the transmission shifts to 5th gear, then slow the vehicle and come to a stop.
  11. Save the snapshot if the entire event was recorded, or increase the recording time setting as necessary, and repeat step 10 .
  12. Adjust the parameter setting to 2.4 V. Test-drive the vehicle again. While monitoring the HDS, accelerate quickly until APP Sensor A reads 2.5 V. Maintain a steady throttle until the transmission shifts to 5th gear (or reasonable speed), then slow the vehicle and come to a stop.
  13. Save the snapshot if the entire event was recorded, or increase the recording time setting as necessary, and repeat step 12 .
  14. Accelerate quickly until the accelerator pedal is to the floor. Maintain a steady pedal until the transmission shifts to 4th gear, then slow to a stop, and save the snapshot.
  15.   16. Drive the vehicle in 4th or 5th gear in D, then shift to 2. The vehicle should immediately begin to slow down from engine braking.
  17. Shift to 1, accelerate from a stop at full throttle, and check for abnormal noise and clutch slippage. Also check that upshifts do not occur.
  18. Shift to 2, accelerate from a stop at full throttle, and check for abnormal noise and clutch slippage. Also check that upshifts and downshifts do not occur.
  19. Shift to R, accelerate from a stop at full throttle momentarily, and check for abnormal noise and clutch slippage.
  20. Park the vehicle on a slope (about 16 degrees), apply the brake, and shift into P. Release the brake; the vehicle should not move. NOTE: Always use the brake to hold the vehicle, when stopped on an incline in gear. Depending on the grade of the incline, the vehicle could roll if the brake is released.

Scheme 584: Stall Speed Test
  1. Make sure the transmission fluid is filled to the proper level (see «ATF LEVEL CHECK»(ref-360064-S01995935312010042600000) ).
  2. Apply the parking brake, and block all four wheels.
  3. Connect the HDS to the DLC (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  5. Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM, and go to the A/T Data List. If the does not, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting (see «DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-360057-S07895027512010042600000) ).
  6. Make sure the A/C switch OFF.
  7. After the engine has warmed up to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on), shift to 2.
  8. Shift to D while pressing brake pedal firmly, then press the accelerator pedal for 6 to 8 seconds, and note the engine speed. Do not move the shift lever or remove your foot off the brake, while raising the engine speed.
  9. Allow 2 minutes for cooling, then repeat the test in 2, 1, and R. NOTE: Do not test stall speed for more than 10 seconds at a time. Record the engine speed at 6-8 seconds after pressing the accelerator pedal. Higher engine speed will be indicated for 5 seconds. Stall speed tests should be used for diagnostic purposes only. The stall speed should be the same in D, 2, 1, and R. Do not test stall speed with the A/T oil pressure gauges installed. Stall Speed rpm Specification: 1,850 rpm Service Limit: 1,700-2,000 rpm
  10. If any of the stall speeds are out of the service limit, refer to the problems and probable causes listed in the table below.
