Auto Dimming Mirror: Other GMC Yukon Denali

Variance

Determine correct zone location. (Scheme 11) Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Press and hold COMP button for 3 seconds. Zone selection number will appear in display. Toggle COMP button until correct zone appears. Release COMP button. Compass heading will appear within 10 seconds.

AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT MIRROR SYSTEM CHECK

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Move gearshift lever into Park. Move mirror switch to MAXIMUM, ON or MIRROR position, if necessary. Cover ambient light sensor (windshield side of mirror) with a dark cloth. Shine light on headlight sensor (mirror side). Mirror should gradually darken.
  2. Move gearshift lever into Reverse. Mirror should gradually lighten to a clear state. Move gearshift lever into Park. Mirror should gradually darken. Remove cloth and light. Mirror should gradually lighten to a clear state. If vehicle is equipped with compass, turn on compass. Compass direction display should be on. If mirror does not operate as specified, perform appropriate test under «SYMPTOM TESTS»(ref-2806-S07806630672000041300000) .

Automatic Day/Night Mirrors Inoperative

  1. Perform «AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT MIRROR SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-2806-S41841769632000041300000) under TROUBLE SHOOTING. Go to next step.
  2. Check HVAC fuse No. 21 (10-amp) located in instrument panel fuse block. If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step 4.
  3. Check Brown wire for short to ground between instrument panel fuse block and terminal No. 1 at automatic day/night mirror connector. (Scheme 12) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-2806-S11792433042000041400000). If short was found, repair as necessay. After repairs, replace fuse, and then perform «AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT MIRROR SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-2806-S41841769632000041300000) under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If short is not found, see POWER DISTRIBUTION in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  4. Disconnect automatic day/night mirror harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect test light between automatic day/night mirror harness connector terminal No. 1 (Brown wire) and ground. If test light illuminates, go to step 6. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  5. Repair poor connection or open in Brown wire between instrument panel fuse block and automatic day/night mirror. After repair, perform «AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT MIRROR SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-2806-S41841769632000041300000) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  6. Connect test light between automatic day/night mirror harness connector terminals No. 1 (Brown wire) and No. 2 (Black wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 8.
  7. Replace automatic day/night mirror. See «REARVIEW MIRROR»(ref-2806-S26173936692000041300000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, perform «AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT MIRROR SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-2806-S41841769632000041300000) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  8. Repair poor connection or open in Black wire between automatic day/night mirror and ground G202. Ground G202 is located to left front of instrument panel. After repairs, perform «AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT MIRROR SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-2806-S41841769632000041300000) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.

Mirrors Do Not Switch To Clear In Reverse

  1. Disconnect automatic day/night mirror harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Move shift lever to Reverse. Connect test light between automatic day/night mirror harness connector terminal No. 3 (Light Green wire) and ground. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 3 .
  2. Replace automatic day/night mirror. See «REARVIEW MIRROR»(ref-2806-S26173936692000041300000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, perform «AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT MIRROR SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-2806-S41841769632000041300000) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  3. Check B/U LAMP fuse No. 25 (25-amp) in underhood fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, repair short in Pink wire between B/U LAMP fuse and back-up light switch or in Gray wire between back-up light switch and VEH B/U fuse (15-amp) in underhood fuse block. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-2806-S11792433042000041400000) .
  4. Check VEH B/U fuse in underhood fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, repair short in Light Green wire between VEH B/U fuse and automatic day/night mirror connector. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-2806-S11792433042000041400000) .
  5. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Place transmission in Reverse. Using a test light, check for power at VEH B/U fuse. If test light is off, go to next step. If test light is on, repair open in Light Green wire between VEH B/U fuse and automatic day/night mirror.
  6. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe at Pink wire terminal at back-up light switch connector. If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, repair open in Pink wire between B/U LAMP fuse and back-up light switch. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-2806-S11792433042000041400000) .
  7. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe at Gray wire terminal at back-up light switch connector. If test light is off, replace back-up light switch. If test light is on, repair open in Gray wire between VEH B/U fuse and back-up light switch. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-2806-S11792433042000041400000) .

Inside Automatic Day/Night Mirror Inoperative

  1. Check GAUGES fuse (10-amp) in instrument panel fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, repair power distribution system. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. Replace fuse and perform «AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT MIRROR SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-2806-S41841769632000041300000) under TROUBLE SHOOTING. Go to next step.
  2. Disconnect automatic day/night mirror harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a test light between automatic day/night mirror harness connector terminal No. 1 (Pink wire) and ground. (Scheme 12) If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, go to step 4.
  3. Connect a test light between automatic day/night mirror harness connector terminals No. 1 (Pink wire) and No. 2 (Black wire). (Scheme 12) If test light is on, go to step 6. If test light is off, go to step 5.
  4. Repair open in Pink wire between automatic day/night mirror harness connector and GAUGES fuse in instrument panel fuse block. After repair, perform «AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT MIRROR SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-2806-S41841769632000041300000).
  5. Repair open in Black wire between automatic day/night mirror harness connector and ground G202, located behind left side of dash. After repair, perform «AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT MIRROR SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-2806-S41841769632000041300000) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  6. Replace automatic day/night mirror. See «REARVIEW MIRROR»(ref-2806-S26173936692000041300000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, perform «AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT MIRROR SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-2806-S41841769632000041300000) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.

Outside Automatic Day/Night Mirror Inoperative

  1. Perform «AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT MIRROR SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-2806-S41841769632000041300000) under TROUBLE SHOOTING. Go to next step.
  2. Disconnect outside mirror connector of inoperative mirror and inside automatic day/night mirror connector. Check continuity of Pink wire between terminal No. 4 at inside automatic day/night mirror connector and terminal "G" at outside mirror connector. (Scheme 12) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Pink wire between inside automatic day/night mirror and outside mirror.
  3. Check continuity of Gray wire between terminal No. 5 at inside automatic day/night mirror connector and terminal "B" at outside mirror connector. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Gray wire between inside automatic day/night mirror and outside mirror.
  4. Check continuity between terminals "G" and "B" at outside mirror connector (component side). If continuity exists, replace inside rearview mirror. See «REARVIEW MIRROR»(ref-2806-S26173936692000041300000). If continuity does not exist, replace inoperative outside mirror. See appropriate POWER MIRRORS article.

Compass Inoperative Or Inaccurate

  1. Perform «AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT MIRROR SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-2806-S41841769632000041300000) under TROUBLE SHOOTING. Go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Toggle mirror switch to COMPASS position. If mirror display is blank, go to next step. If "C" appears in display, perform compass calibration. See «COMPASS»(ref-2806-S13773397062000041300000) under ADJUSTMENTS. If "C" does not appear, perform compass variance procedure. See «COMPASS»(ref-2806-S13773397062000041300000) under ADJUSTMENTS.
  3. Replace automatic day/night mirror. See «REARVIEW MIRROR»(ref-2806-S26173936692000041300000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, perform «AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT MIRROR SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-2806-S41841769632000041300000) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.

Automatic Day/Night Mirror Inoperative

  1. Check IGN 1 fuse (10-amp) in fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, repair power distribution system. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. Replace fuse and perform «AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT MIRROR SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-2806-S41841769632000041300000).
  2. Disconnect automatic day/night mirror harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using DVOM, measure voltage between automatic day/night mirror harness connector terminal No. 1 (Pink wire) and ground. (Scheme 12) If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 4.
  3. Connect DVOM between automatic day/night mirror harness connector terminals No. 1 (Pink wire) and No. 2 (Black wire). (Scheme 12) If battery voltage exists, go to step 5. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 6.
  4. Repair open in Pink wire between automatic day/night mirror harness connector terminal No. 1 and fuse block connector C1 terminal A4. Fuse block is located on lower left side of instrument.
  5. Replace automatic day/night mirror. See «REARVIEW MIRROR»(ref-2806-S26173936692000041300000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Repair open in Black wire between automatic day/night mirror harness connector terminal No. 2 and ground G202. Ground G202 is located on left upper instrument panel, at "A" pillar.

Automatic Day/Night Mirror Inoperative In Reverse

  1. Disconnect automatic day/night mirror harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Place shift lever in Reverse. Connect test light between automatic day/night mirror harness connector terminal No. 3 (Light Green wire) and ground. (Scheme 12) If test light illuminates, go to step 3. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  2. Check operation of back-up lights. If back-up lights illuminate, go to step 4. If back-up lights do not illuminate, locate and repair problem in back-up lighting system. See BACK-UP LIGHTS article.
  3. Replace automatic day/night mirror. See «REARVIEW MIRROR»(ref-2806-S26173936692000041300000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Repair open in Light Green wire between automatic day/night mirror and engine wiring harness junction block. Engine wiring harness junction block is located at left side of engine compartment, near battery.
  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If mirror display is totally blank, go to step 5 . If mirror display is not totally blank, go to next step.
  2. If letter "C" is displayed on mirror, go to next step. If letter "C" is not displayed on mirror, go to step 4 .
  3. Perform compass calibration procedure. See «COMPASS»(ref-2806-S13773397062000041300000) under ADJUSTMENTS.
  4. Perform compass variance procedure. See «COMPASS»(ref-2806-S13773397062000041300000) under ADJUSTMENTS.
  5. Replace automatic day/night mirror. See «REARVIEW MIRROR»(ref-2806-S26173936692000041300000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform compass calibration and variance procedures. See «COMPASS»(ref-2806-S13773397062000041300000) under ADJUSTMENTS.

REARVIEW MIRROR

Note. It is not necessary to use tools or other objects to pry mirror mount or mirror away from windshield. Use of tools may damage mirror, mirror mount or windshield.
