Power mirror functions are suspended as long as the fault is present.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
- A current DTC will clear when the fault is no longer present.
- A history DTC will clear after 40 fault free ignition cycles.
Visual/Physical Inspection
- Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the system. Refer to «Checking Aftermarket Accessories»(ref-491170-S38135034022012073000000) .

Circuit/System Testing
- Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate A9 Outside Rearview Mirror. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.
- Test for less than 10 ohms between the ground circuit terminal 6 and ground. If 10 ohms or greater Ignition OFF. Test for less than 2 ohms in the ground circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection. If less than 10 ohms
- Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 5 and ground.
- Engine running.
- Verify the test lamp turns ON and OFF when operating the rear window defogger switch ON and OFF. If the lamp is always ON Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at X50A Fuse Block - Underhood, ignition ON. Test for less than 1 V between the control circuit and ground. If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit. If less than 1 V, refer to «Rear Window Defogger Malfunction»(ref-491176-S24899476212012073000000) . If the lamp is always OFF Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at X50A Fuse Block - Underhood, ignition ON. Test for infinite resistance between the control circuit and ground. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit. If infinite resistance Test for less than 2 ohms in the control circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms refer to «Rear Window Defogger Malfunction»(ref-491176-S24899476212012073000000) . Diagnostic Aids
If the vehicle has a rear vision camera the button for turning the automatic dimming feature on or off will not be available.
- Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the A10 Inside Rearview Mirror. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.
- Test for less than 10 ohms between the appropriate ground circuit terminal listed below and ground: Terminal 5 (with UVC and UYS or without UVC or UYS) Terminal 8 (with UVC and without UYS) If 10 ohms or greater Ignition OFF. Test for less than 2 ohms in the ground circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection. If less than 10 ohms
- Ignition ON.
- Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the appropriate ignition circuit terminal listed below and ground: Terminal 2 (with UVC and UYS or without UVC or UYS) Terminal 13 (with UVC and without UYS) If the test lamp does not illuminate and the circuit fuse is good Ignition OFF. Test for less than 2 ohms in the ignition circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, verify the fuse is not open and there is voltage at the fuse. If the test lamp does not illuminate and the circuit fuse is open Ignition OFF. Test for infinite resistance between the ignition circuit and ground. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit. If infinite resistance, replace the A10 Inside Rearview Mirror. If the test lamp illuminates
- Engine running, park brake applied. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminals listed below and ground: Terminal 1 (with UVC and UYS or without UVC or UYS) Terminal 9 (with UVC and without UYS)
- Verify that a test lamp turns ON and OFF when shifting the transmission in and out of R If the test lamp is always off Ignition OFF, disconnect the X7 harness connector at the K9 Body Control Module. Ignition ON. Test for infinite resistance between the control circuit and ground. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit. If infinite resistance Test for less than 2 ohms in the control circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, replace the K9 Body Control Module. If the test lamp is always on Ignition OFF, disconnect X7 harness connector at the K9 Body Control Module, ignition ON. Mirror Switch Circuit Test
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S52 Outside Rearview Mirror Switch. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.
- Test for less than 10 ohms between the low reference circuit terminal 11 and ground. If 10 ohms or greater Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left. Test for less than 2 ohms in the low reference circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, replace the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left. If less than 10 ohms
- Ignition ON.
- Test for 4.8-5.2 V between the signal circuit terminal 5 and ground. If less than 4.8 V Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit and ground. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit. If infinite resistance Test for less than 2 ohms in the signal circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, replace the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left. If greater than 5.2 V Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left. Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit and ground. If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit. If less than 1 V, replace the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left. If between 4.8 - 5.2 V
- Test for 4.8-5.2 V between the signal circuit terminal 12 and ground. If less than 4.8 V Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit and ground. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit. If infinite resistance Test for less than 2 ohms in the signal circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, replace the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left. If greater than 5.2 V Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left. Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit and ground. If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit. If less than 1 V, replace the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left. If between 4.8 - 5.2 V
- Replace S52 Outside Rearview Mirror Switch.
Mirror Motor Circuit Test
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate A9 Outside Rearview Mirror, ignition ON.
- Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 1 and control circuit terminal 2.
- Verify the test lamp illuminates when commanding the UP/DOWN states with the scan tool. If the test lamp remains off during either of the commands Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left (driver mirror) or S79P Window Switch - Passenger (passenger mirror). Test for less than 1 V between each of control circuit and ground. If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit. If less than 1 V Test for infinite resistance between each control circuit and ground. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit. If infinite resistance Test for less than 2 ohms in each control circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, replace the appropriate module or switch. If the test lamp illuminates during each of the commands
- Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 3 and the control circuit terminal 2.
- Verify the test lamp illuminates when commanding the LEFT/RIGHT states with the scan tool. If the test lamp does not illuminate during either of the commands Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left (driver mirror) or S79P Window Switch - Passenger (passenger mirror). Test for less than 1 V between each control circuit and ground. If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit. If less than 1 V Test for infinite resistance between each control circuit and ground. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit. If infinite resistance Test for less than 2 ohms in each control circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, replace the appropriate module or switch. If the test lamp illuminates during each of the commands
- Test or replace the Outside Rearview Mirror Inner Actuator.
Mirror Position Sensor Circuit Test
- Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate A9 Outside Rearview Mirror. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.
- Test for less than 10 ohms between the low reference circuit terminal 10 and ground. If 10 ohms or greater Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left (driver mirror) or S79P Window Switch - Passenger (passenger mirror). Test for less than 2 ohms in the low reference circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, replace the module or switch. If less than 10 ohms
- Ignition ON.
- Test for 4.8-5.2 V between the 5 V reference circuit terminal 7 and ground. If less than 4.8 V Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left (driver mirror) or S79P Window Switch - Passenger (passenger mirror). Test for infinite resistance between the 5 V reference circuit and ground. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit. If infinite resistance Test for less than 2 ohms in the 5 V reference circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, replace the module or switch. If greater than 5.2 V Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left (driver mirror) or S79P Window Switch - Passenger (passenger mirror). Test for less than 1 V between the 5 V reference circuit and ground. If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit. If less than 1 V, replace the module or switch. If between 4.8 - 5.2 V
- Install a 3 A fused jumper wire at the signal circuit terminal 8.
- Verify the scan tool Mirror Vertical Position parameter changes between less than 0.2 V and greater than 4.8 V when moving the jumper wire between the low reference circuit terminal 10 and the 5 V reference circuit terminal 7. If the Mirror Vertical Position parameter does not change Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left (driver mirror) or S79P Window Switch - Passenger (passenger mirror), ignition ON. Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit terminal 8 and ground. If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit. If less than 1 V Ignition OFF Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 8 and ground. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit. If infinite resistance Test for less than 2 ohms in the signal circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, replace the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left (driver mirror) or S79P Window Switch - Passenger (passenger mirror). If the Mirror Vertical Position parameter changes
- Install a 3 A fused jumper wire at the signal circuit terminal 9.
- Verify the scan tool Mirror Horizontal Position parameter changes between less than 0.2 V and greater than 4.8 V when moving the jumper wire between the low reference circuit terminal 10 and the 5 V reference circuit terminal 7. If the Mirror Horizontal Position parameter does not change Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left (driver mirror) or S79P Window Switch - Passenger (passenger mirror), ignition ON. Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit terminal 9 and ground. If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit. If less than 1 V Ignition OFF Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 9 and ground. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit. If infinite resistance Test for less than 2 ohms in the signal circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, replace the K96L Mirror Control Module - Left (driver mirror) or S79P Window Switch - Passenger (passenger mirror). If the Mirror Horizontal Position parameter changes

- Verify a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 12 and ground. If the test lamp does not illuminate and the circuit fuse is good Ignition OFF. Test for less than 2 ohms in the B+ circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, verify the fuse is not open and there is voltage at the fuse. If the test lamp does not illuminate and the circuit fuse is open Ignition OFF. Test for infinite resistance between the B+ circuit and ground. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit. If infinite resistance Test for infinite resistance between each of the control circuit terminals listed below and ground: Terminal 5 control circuit Terminal 6 control circuit Terminal 7 control circuit Terminal 8 control circuit Terminal 9 control circuit Terminal 10 control circuit If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit. If infinite resistance, replace the S52 Outside Rearview Mirror Switch. If the test lamp illuminates
- Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the S52 Outside Rearview Mirror Switch and disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate A9 Outside Rearview Mirror.
- Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 1 and the control circuit terminal 2.
- Verify the test lamp illuminates when commanding the UP/DOWN states with the S52 Outside Rearview Mirror Switch. If the test lamp does not illuminate during either of the commands Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S52 Outside Rearview Mirror Switch. Test for less than 1 V on each control circuit and ground. If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit. If less than 1 V Test for infinite resistance between each control circuit and ground. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit. If infinite resistance Test for less than 2 ohms in each control circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, replace at the S52 Outside Rearview Mirror Switch. If the test lamp illuminates during each of the commands
- Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 3 and the control circuit terminal 2.
- Verify the test lamp illuminates when commanding the LEFT/RIGHT states with the S52 Outside Rearview Mirror Switch. If the test lamp does not illuminate during either of the commands Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S52 Outside Rearview Mirror Switch. Test for less than 1 V on each control circuit and ground. If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit. If less than 1 V Test for infinite resistance between each control circuit and ground. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit. If infinite resistance Test for less than 2 ohms in each control circuit end to end. If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit. If less than 2 ohms, replace at the S52 Outside Rearview Mirror Switch. If the test lamp illuminates during each of the commands

Not all vehicles have the Park Tilt Mirror feature, verify that the Park Tilt Mirrors option is available in the DIC Vehicle Customization Feature Setting Menu before attempting diagnosis.
