Removal Procedure
- Drain the cooling system. - Remove the intake manifold cover. Refer to «Intake Manifold Cover Replacement»(ref-491177-S09646701342012073000000) .
- Disengage tension on the radiator inlet hose clamp (1) at the radiator using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Remove the radiator inlet hose (2) from the radiator.
- Disengage tension on the radiator inlet hose clamp (1) at the engine using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Remove the radiator inlet hose (2) from the engine.
- Remove the radiator inlet hose from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install radiator inlet hose to the vehicle.
- Install the radiator inlet hose (2) to the engine.
- Engage tension on the radiator inlet hose clamp (1) at the engine using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Install the radiator inlet hose (2) to the radiator.
- Engage tension on the radiator inlet hose clamp (1) at the radiator using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Install the intake manifold cover. Refer to «Intake Manifold Cover Replacement»(ref-491177-S09646701342012073000000) .
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)»(ref-491221-S11227726582012073000000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LF1 or LFW)»(ref-491221-S01432179932012073000000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LAF or LEA)»(ref-491221-S24420276232012073000000) .

- Disengage tension on the radiator inlet hose clamp (1) at the radiator using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Remove the radiator inlet hose (2) from the radiator.
- Disengage tension on the radiator inlet hose clamp (1) at the engine using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Remove the radiator inlet hose (2) from the engine.
- Remove the radiator inlet hose from the vehicle.
- Install radiator inlet hose to the vehicle.
- Install the radiator inlet hose (2) to the engine.
- Engage tension on the radiator inlet hose clamp (1) at the engine using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Install the radiator inlet hose (2) to the radiator.
- Engage tension on the radiator inlet hose clamp (1) at the radiator using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Install the intake manifold cover. Refer to «Intake Manifold Cover Replacement»(ref-491134-S37063866352012073000000) .
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)»(ref-491221-S11227726582012073000000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LF1 or LFW)»(ref-491221-S01432179932012073000000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LAF or LEA)»(ref-491221-S24420276232012073000000) .

- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(ref-491131-S06536846302012073000000) .
- Disengage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (1) at the radiator using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Remove the radiator outlet hose (2) from the radiator.
- Disengage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (1) at the engine using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Remove the radiator outlet hose (2) from the engine.
- Remove the radiator outlet hose from the vehicle.
- Install radiator outlet hose to the vehicle.
- Install the radiator outlet hose (2) to the engine.
- Engage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (1) at the engine using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Install the radiator outlet hose (2) to the radiator.
- Engage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (1) at the radiator using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)»(ref-491221-S11227726582012073000000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LF1 or LFW)»(ref-491221-S01432179932012073000000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LAF or LEA)»(ref-491221-S24420276232012073000000) .

- Disengage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (1) at the radiator using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Remove the radiator outlet hose (2) from the radiator.
- Remove radiator outlet hose bracket retainer (1).
- Disengage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (2) at the thermostat housing using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Remove the radiator outlet hose (4) from the thermostat housing.
- Disengage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (3) at the engine oil cooler using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Remove the radiator outlet hose (4) from the engine oil cooler.
- Remove the radiator outlet hose from the vehicle.
- Install radiator outlet hose to the vehicle.
- Install the radiator outlet hose (4) to the engine oil cooler.
- Engage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (3) at the engine oil cooler using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Install the radiator outlet hose (4) to the thermostat housing.
- Engage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (2) at the thermostat housing using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Install radiator outlet hose bracket retainer (1).
- Install the radiator outlet hose (2) to the radiator.
- Engage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (1) at the radiator using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)»(ref-491221-S11227726582012073000000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LF1 or LFW)»(ref-491221-S01432179932012073000000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LAF or LEA)»(ref-491221-S24420276232012073000000) .

Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LFW)
- Drain the coolant from the engine block at the water pump drain. After the coolant has drained, tighten the drain bolt.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.
- Remove the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector rosebud clip from the thermostat housing.
- Reposition the radiator outlet hose clamp (2) at the thermostat housing.
- Remove the radiator outlet hose retainer (1) from the fuel pump cover.
- Remove the surge tank hose (1) from the thermostat housing.
- Remove the exhaust heat shield studs (2).
- Remove the exhaust heat shield.
- Remove the HVAC heater inlet hose (2) from the thermostat housing.
- Remove the HVAC heater outlet hose (2) from the thermostat housing.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(ref-491131-S06536846302012073000000) .
- Remove the ECT sensor, if necessary.
- Remove the thermostat housing bolts (1).
- Remove the thermostat housing (3) from the vehicle.
- Remove the water transfer pipe from the thermostat housing, if necessary.
- Remove and discard the water transfer pipe O-ring seals (2).
- Remove the thermostat cover bolts (1) and cover (2), if necessary.
- Remove the thermostat (3), if necessary.
- Remove and discard the thermostat cover O-ring seal, if necessary.
- Remove all debris and thread sealant from the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor and bolt holes if the housing is being re-used.
- Install a NEW thermostat cover O-ring seal into the recess groove.
- Install the thermostat (3), if necessary.
- Install the thermostat cover bolts (1), if necessary and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- Install a NEW thermostat housing to engine gasket onto the thermostat housing.
- Load the thermostat housing assembly into position.
- Install NEW O-ring seals onto the water feed pipe.
- Install the water feed pipe into the thermostat housing aligning locator tab.
- Align the water pipe to water pump.
- Seat the water feed O-ring seal by pushing inward toward the water pump. Take care not to tear or damage the O-ring.
- Position the thermostat housing (3) against the engine.
- Install the thermostat housing bolts (1) and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- If reinstalling the old sensor, coat the threads with sealant. Refer to «Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers»(ref-491134-S31490395222012073000000) .
- Install the ECT sensor, if necessary and tighten to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the HVAC heater inlet hose (2) to the thermostat housing.
- Install the HVAC heater outlet hose (2) to the thermostat housing.
- Install the surge tank hose (1) onto the thermostat housing.
- Install the exhaust heat shield. Refer to «Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement (LEA)»(ref-491179-S41696619082012073000000) .
- Install the radiator outlet hose (2) to the thermostat housing.
- Install the radiator outlet hose retainer bracket (1) onto the fuel pump cover.
- Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) to the ECT sensor (1).
- Install the HO2S electrical connector rosebud clip to the thermostat housing.
- Verify the drain valves at the radiator and water pump are closed.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)»(ref-491221-S11227726582012073000000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LF1 or LFW)»(ref-491221-S01432179932012073000000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LAF or LEA)»(ref-491221-S24420276232012073000000) .

- Drain the cooling system. - Remove the generator drive belt. Refer to «Drive Belt Replacement»(ref-491177-S09710343522012073000000) .
- Use the EN 46104 water pump pulley holder (1) to retain the pulley.
- Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
- Remove the water pump pulley.
- Remove the water pump bolts.
- Remove the water pump.
- Remove and DISCARD the water pump seal.
- Carefully clean the water pump sealing surfaces.
- Install a NEW water pump seal.
- Install the water pump.
- Hand tighten the water pump bolts.
- Tighten the water pump bolts in sequence to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- Tighten the water pump bolts a second pass in sequence to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- Install the water pump pulley and the water pump pulley bolts.
- Use the EN 46104 water pump pulley holder (1) to hold the pulley.
- Install the water pump pulley bolts and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- Install the generator drive belt. Refer to «Drive Belt Replacement»(ref-491177-S09710343522012073000000) .
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)»(ref-491221-S11227726582012073000000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LF1 or LFW)»(ref-491221-S01432179932012073000000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LAF or LEA)»(ref-491221-S24420276232012073000000) .
Water Pump Replacement (L4)

EN-43651 Water Pump Holding Tool

- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to «Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement»(ref-491198-S04410955102012073000000) .
- Remove the intake manifold cover. Refer to «Intake Manifold Cover Replacement»(ref-491134-S37063866352012073000000) .
- If equipped, remove the coolant heater.
- Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to «Catalytic Converter Replacement (LEA-FWD)»(ref-491179-S29424249042012073000000) , «Catalytic Converter Replacement (LEA-AWD)»(ref-491179-S07030702382012073000000) .
- Remove the engine coolant thermostat housing. Refer to «Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LEA)»(ref-491221-S04285857912012073000000) , «Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LFW)»(ref-491221-S10253759822012073000000) .
- Remove the water pump cover (2), fasteners (3) and gasket (1) from the engine front cover.
- Drain the coolant from the water pump using the plug at the bottom of the pump. Install the plug when finished.
- Align the EN-43651 water pump holding tool (1) with the threads on the water pump sprocket. Tighten the water pump holding tool fasteners (2).
- Secure the water pump holding tool with the previously removed water pump cover fasteners (1) into the engine front cover.
- Remove the water pump sprocket to water pump fasteners (1).
- Remove the front water pump fasteners (1).
- Remove the rear water pump fasteners (1).
- Remove the water pump (1).
- If replacing the water pump cover remove the water pump rear cover fasteners (4).
- Separate the water pump cover (1) from the water pump (3).
- Remove and discard the water pump O-ring seal (2).
- If replacing the water pump cover (1), install a new O-ring (2) to the water pump (3) and tighten the fasteners (4) to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Using a guide pin (2), align the pin with the water pump holding tool.
- Position the water pump (1) against the engine block and hand tighten the water pump fasteners (3).
- Install 2 water pump sprocket to water pump fasteners (1). After the fasteners are snug, remove the guide pin (2) and install the third fastener (3) and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- Install the water pump fasteners (1) at the front of the engine. Hand tighten at this time.
- Tighten the water pump fasteners at the front and rear of the water pump to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Remove the water pump cover fasteners (1) from the engine front cover and water pump holding tool.
- Remove the EN-43651 water pump holding tool (1) from the water pump sprocket.
- Install the water pump access plate (2) gasket (1) and fasteners (3) and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- If equipped, install the coolant heater.
- Install the engine coolant thermostat housing. Refer to «Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LEA)»(ref-491221-S04285857912012073000000) , «Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LFW)»(ref-491221-S10253759822012073000000) .
- Install the catalytic converter. Refer to «Catalytic Converter Replacement (LEA-FWD)»(ref-491179-S29424249042012073000000) , «Catalytic Converter Replacement (LEA-AWD)»(ref-491179-S07030702382012073000000) .

- Refill the coolant system. Radiator Air Upper Baffle and Deflector Replacement
- If equipped with AWD, remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to «Exhaust Manifold Replacement (LEA)»(ref-491179-S16207312842012073000000) .
- Disconnect the coolant heater cord (1).
- Remove the coolant heater bolt.
- Remove the coolant heater.
- Install the coolant heater.
- Install the coolant heater bolt and tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Connect the coolant heater cord (1).
- If equipped with AWD, install the exhaust manifold. Refer to «Exhaust Manifold Replacement (LEA)»(ref-491179-S16207312842012073000000) .
