Object Detection System and Parking Assist System: Removal & Installation GMC Sierra III

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the front bumper impact bar. Refer to «Front Bumper Impact Bar Replacement»(ref-651005-S39993474022014081900000) .
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the front parking assist alarm sensor.
  3. Lift the locking tabs on the bracket and remove the front parking assist alarm sensor.

Installation Procedure

  1. Paint the front parking assist alarm sensor. Refer to «Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems»(ref-651033-S21531478132014081900000) .
  2. Ensure the paint does not exceed 6 mils. Use a paint thickness gauge suitable for non-ferrous metals. Refer to «Paint Gauges»(ref-651033-S04632369632014081900000) .
  3. Insert the front parking assist alarm sensor into the bracket.
  4. Connect the electrical connector to the front parking assist alarm sensor.
  5. Install the front bumper impact bar. Refer to «Front Bumper Impact Bar Replacement»(ref-651005-S39993474022014081900000) .
  1. Remove the front bumper impact bar. Refer to «Front Bumper Impact Bar Replacement»(ref-651005-S39993474022014081900000) .
  2. Remove the front bumper impact bar bracket to bumper. Refer to «Front Bumper Impact Bar Bracket Replacement (To Frame End)»(ref-651005-S28452529592014081900000) , «Front Bumper Impact Bar Bracket Replacement (GMC To Bumper)»(ref-651005-S00474796062014081900000)
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the front parking assist alarm sensor.
  4. Lift the locking tabs on the bracket and remove the front parking assist alarm sensor.
  1. Paint the front parking assist alarm sensor. Refer to «Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems»(ref-651033-S21531478132014081900000) .
  2. Ensure the paint does not exceed 6 mils. Use a paint thickness gauge suitable for non-ferrous metals. Refer to «Paint Gauges»(ref-651033-S04632369632014081900000) .
  3. Insert the front parking assist alarm sensor into the bracket.
  4. Connect the electrical connector to the front parking assist alarm sensor.
  5. Install the front bumper impact bar. Refer to «Front Bumper Impact Bar Replacement»(ref-651005-S39993474022014081900000) .
  1. Access the front parking assist alarm sensor from under the front impact bar.
  2. Disconnect electrical from the front object alarm sensor.
  3. Lift the locking tabs on the housing and remove the front object alarm sensor.
  1. Paint the front object alarm sensor. Refer to «Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems»(ref-651033-S21531478132014081900000) .
  2. Ensure the paint does not exceed 6 mils. Use a paint thickness gauge suitable for non-ferrous metals. Refer to «Paint Gauges»(ref-651033-S04632369632014081900000) .
  3. Insert the sensor into the housing.
  4. Connect the electrical connector to the front object alarm sensor.
  1. Remove rear bumper impact bar. Refer to «Rear Bumper Impact Bar Replacement»(ref-651005-S42209153372014081900000) .
  2. Disconnect electrical from the rear object sensor.
  3. Lift the locking tabs on the housing and remove the rear object sensor.
  1. Paint the rear object sensor. Refer to «Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems»(ref-651033-S21531478132014081900000) .
  2. Ensure the paint does not exceed 6 mils. Use a paint thickness gauge suitable for non-ferrous metals. Refer to «Paint Gauges»(ref-651033-S04632369632014081900000) .
  3. Insert the sensor into the housing.
  4. Connect the electrical connector to the rear object sensor.
  5. Install the rear bumper impact bar. Refer to «Rear Bumper Impact Bar Replacement»(ref-651005-S42209153372014081900000) .
  1. Disconnect electrical from the rear parking assist sensor.
  2. Lift the locking tabs on the housing and remove the rear parking assist sensor.
  1. Paint the rear parking assist sensor. Refer to «Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems»(ref-651033-S21531478132014081900000) .
  2. Ensure the paint does not exceed 6 mils. Use a paint thickness gauge suitable for non-ferrous metals. Refer to «Paint Gauges»(ref-651033-S04632369632014081900000) .
  3. Insert the rear parking assist sensor into the housing.
  4. Connect the electrical connector to the rear parking assist sensor.

1Front View Camera Procedure Using a suitable plastic tool, insert the tool between the edge of the front view camera retainers, turn the tool to release the retainers and the camera and rotate downward. Disconnect the electrical connector. Program and calibrate the front view camera. For programming and set up, refer to Front View Camera Module Calibration .
