REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| WARNING | Vehicle is equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. When servicing vehicle, use care to avoid accidental air bag deployment. SIR system-related components are located in various locations throughout interior and exterior of vehicle, depending on application. Do not use electrical test equipment on or near these circuits. If necessary, deactivate SIR system before servicing components. See AIR BAG DEACTIVATION PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. |
| CAUTION | When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery. |
Removal
- Apply the parking brake.
- Shift the transmission into Neutral.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove the nut securing the transmission control lever to the manual shaft.
- Remove the transmission control lever from the manual shaft.
- Disconnect the wiring harness connector at the wiring harness.
- Remove 2 bolts securing the PNP switch to the transmission.
- Remove the PNP switch from the manual shaft.
- If the PNP switch did not slide off the manual shaft, file the outer edge of the manual shaft to remove any burrs.
Installation
- Install the switch onto the manual shaft by aligning the switch hub flats with the manual shaft flats.
- Slide the switch onto the transmission manual shaft until the switch mounting bracket contacts the mounting bosses on the transmission.
- Install the switch to the transmission with 2 bolts. Do not tighten the bolts.
- Position the PNP Switch Alignment Tool (J-41364-A) onto the PNP switch. Ensure the 2 slots on the switch where the manual shaft is inserted are lined up with the lower 2 tabs on the tool. (Scheme 157)
- Rotate the tool until the upper locator pin on the tool is lined up with the slot on the top of the switch. Tighten the bolts securing the switch to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-133047-S02990839492002021300000).
- Remove the PNP switch alignment tool from the switch.
- Install the wiring harness connector at the vehicle harness.
- Install the transmission control lever to the manual shaft with the nut. Tighten the control lever nut to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-133047-S02990839492002021300000).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Check the switch for proper operation. The engine must start in the Park or Neutral positions only.
- If the switch is not operating correctly, see appropriate AUTOMATIC article in TRANSMISSION SERVICING.

- Release the PCM cover mounting holes (1, 5) away from the mounting tabs on the PCM mounting bracket. (Scheme 158)
- Release the PCM cover (8) from the mounting bracket.
- Remove the PCM cover.
- Disconnect the PCM harness connectors (6).
- Release the spring latch (2) from the PCM.
- Release the PCM mounting tabs (3) from the PCM.
- Remove the PCM (4) from the engine compartment.
- Install the PCM (4) to the PCM mounting bracket (7), ensuring that the mounting tabs (3) are engaged. (Scheme 158)
- Secure the spring latch (2) to the PCM.
- Connect the PCM connectors (6) to the PCM (4). Tighten the PCM connector end bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-133047-S02990839492002021300000).
- Install the PCM cover (8) to the PCM mounting bracket (7), ensuring the mounting tabs on the PCM mounting bracket are engaged into the mounting holes in the PCM cover.
- If a new PCM is being installed, program the EEPROM. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.

- Remove the wiring harness retaining pin (4) from the instrument panel. (Scheme 161)
- Remove the wire straps and open the harness insulation to gain access to the electrical wiring.
- Remove the wiring from the electrical connector.
- Remove the shift lever.
- Install the shift lever (1). (Scheme 159)
- Connect the shifter electrical connector.
- Install the wire straps to the harness.
- Install the harness retaining pin (4) to the instrument panel. (Scheme 161)
- Install the knee bolster deflector bracket and nuts (1). (Scheme 160) Tighten the nuts to 80 INCH lbs. (9 N.m).
- Install the knee bolster.
- Install the Torx® head screw. Tighten the screw to 13 INCH lbs. (1.5 N.m).
- Roll the seal over the Torx® head screw.
- Install the lower column cover.
- Install the 2 Torx® head screws to the lower column cover. Tighten the screws to 31 INCH lbs. (3.5 N.m).
