| IMPORTANT | The radio theft will learn the VIN. Without learning the VIN, the radio will display a locked message (LOC or LOCKED). |
If the radio is replaced, perform a VIN Relearn, located in the Special Functions section on the scan tool. Cycle the ignition when complete.

Removal Procedure
- Remove the overhead console. Refer to «Console Replacement - Overhead (Envoy XUV)»(ref-200370-S31327412472005102000000) or «Console Replacement - Overhead (Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier)»(ref-200370-S24836168992005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the personal message recorder (1).
- Remove the personal message recorder retaining screws.
- Remove the personal message recorder from the overhead console.
- Remove the button assembly from the overhead console.
Installation Procedure
- Install the button assembly to the overhead console.
- Install the personal message recorder to the overhead console ensuring the light indicator is fully recessed into the opening (1).
- Install the screws that retain the personal message recorder to the overhead console. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 0.8 N.m (7 lb in).
- Connect the electrical connector to the personal message recorder (1).
- Install the overhead console. Refer to «Console Replacement - Overhead (Envoy XUV)»(ref-200370-S31327412472005102000000) or «Console Replacement - Overhead (Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier)»(ref-200370-S24836168992005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Remove the lower closeout/insulator panel (GMC only). Refer to «Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Lower (GMC/Chevrolet)»(ref-200362-S35472051402005102000000) in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Remove the accessory trim plate. - Remove the 3 screws that retain the radio to the instrument panel (I/P).
- Partially remove the radio disengaging the radio rear alignment locator (1) to gain access to the electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the radio antenna cable.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors to the radio.
- Remove the radio from the vehicle.
- Position the radio to the I/P.
- Connect the electrical connectors to the radio.
- Connect the radio antenna cable to the radio.
- Position the radio rear alignment locator (1) into the I/P substrate.
- Install the 3 screws that retain the radio to the I/P. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
- Install the accessory trim plate. Refer to «Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory (GMC)»(ref-200362-S25030397422005102000000) or «Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory (Buick)»(ref-200362-S28103668162005102000000) or «Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory (GMC)»(ref-200362-S25030397422005102000000) or «Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory (Buick)»(ref-200362-S28103668162005102000000) in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Install the lower closeout/insulator panel (GMC only). Refer to «Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Lower (GMC/Chevrolet)»(ref-200362-S35472051402005102000000) in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- If a replacement radio is installed, setup the radio. Refer to «Control Module References»(ref-200358-S22779820132005102000000) in Computer/Integrating Systems.
- Lower the right closeout insulator panel. Refer to «Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right»(ref-200362-S11353072362005102000000) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
- Remove the electrical connector (1) from the receiver.
- Remove the antenna electrical connector (1) from the receiver.
- Remove the nuts retaining the receiver to the insulator panel.
- Remove the receiver from the vehicle.
- Position the receiver near the insulator panel.
- Install the antenna electrical connector (1) to the receiver.
- Install the electrical connector (1) to the receiver.
- Install the receiver to the insulator panel.
- Install the nuts retaining the receiver to the insulator panel. Tighten: Tighten the nuts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).
- Install the right closeout insulator panel. Refer to «Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right»(ref-200362-S11353072362005102000000) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
- Perform the setup procedure for the digital radio receiver. Refer to «Digital Radio Receiver Setup»(ref-200368-S04909182332005102000000) .
- Remove the Left rear quarter trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter - Left (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL)»(ref-200370-S22930548672005102000000) or «Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter - Left (Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier)»(ref-200370-S01913088892005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the radio speaker amplifier.
- Remove the 4 bolts that retain the radio speaker amplifier to the body.
- Remove the radio speaker amplifier from the body.
- Install the radio speaker amplifier to the body.
- Install the 4 bolts that retain the radio speaker amplifier to the body. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (88 lb in).
- Connect the electrical connectors to the radio speaker amplifier.
- Install the left rear quarter trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter - Left (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL)»(ref-200370-S22930548672005102000000) or «Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter - Left (Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier)»(ref-200370-S01913088892005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Remove the left body side trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Body Side (Envoy XUV)»(ref-200370-S39765755322005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Remove the screws retaining the amplifier cover to the body.
- Remove the amplifier cover.
- Remove the screws retaining the amplifier to the body.
- Partially remove the amplifier to disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Remove the amplifier from the vehicle.
- Partially install the amplifier to connect the electrical connectors.
- Install the amplifier to the body.
- Install the screws retaining the amplifier to the body. Tighten: Tighten the fasteners to 10 N.m (88 lb in).
- Install the screws retaining the amplifier cover to the body. Tighten: Tighten the fasteners to 2.5 N.m (22 lb in).
- Install the left body side trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Body Side (Envoy XUV)»(ref-200370-S39765755322005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Remove the upper right quarter trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter Upper (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada)»(ref-200370-S01111547262005102000000) .
- Remove the lower right quarter trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter - Right (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL)»(ref-200370-S01979267672005102000000) or «Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter - Right (Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier)»(ref-200370-S39505008052005102000000) .
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the radio speaker amplifier.
- Remove the 4 bolts that retain the radio speaker amplifier to the body.
- Remove the radio speaker amplifier from the body.
- Install the radio speaker amplifier to the body.
- Install the 4 bolts that retain the radio speaker amplifier to the body. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (88 lb in).
- Connect the electrical connectors to the radio speaker amplifier.
- Install the lower right quarter trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter - Right (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL)»(ref-200370-S01979267672005102000000) or «Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter - Right (Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier)»(ref-200370-S39505008052005102000000) .
- Install the upper right quarter trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter Upper (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada)»(ref-200370-S01111547262005102000000) .
- Remove the overhead console. Refer to «Console Replacement - Overhead (Envoy XUV)»(ref-200370-S31327412472005102000000) or «Console Replacement - Overhead (Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier)»(ref-200370-S24836168992005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Disconnect the microphone electrical connector (3).
- Remove the 2 retaining screws to the microphone.
- Remove the microphone (2) from the overhead console.
- Install the microphone (2) to the overhead console.
- Install the 2 microphone retaining screws. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 0.8 N.m (7 lb in).
- Connect the microphone electrical connector (3).
- Install the overhead console. Refer to «Console Replacement - Overhead (Envoy XUV)»(ref-200370-S31327412472005102000000) or «Console Replacement - Overhead (Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier)»(ref-200370-S24836168992005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Use the tool (1) provided with the vehicle to unscrew the antenna mast.
- Remove the antenna mast from the antenna base.
- Install the antenna mast to the antenna base.
- Using the mast tool, tighten the antenna mast (1) until fully seated to the antenna base (2).
- Lower the front portion of the headliner. Refer to «Headliner Replacement (Envoy XUV)»(ref-200370-S26489428372005102000000) or «Headliner Replacement (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL)»(ref-200370-S17161678162005102000000) or «Headliner Replacement (Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier)»(ref-200370-S15575918612005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the digital radio antenna assembly.
- Loosen the retaining nut until the assembly can be removed from the roof panel.
- Using an upward motion, remove the antenna assembly from the roof.
- Install the antenna assembly from the top of the roof.
- Lower the antenna assembly to the roof panel, ensuring the anti-rotation pin is properly indexed.
- Tighten the retaining nut. Tighten: Tighten the nut to 6 N.m (53 lb in).
- Connect the antenna electrical connectors.
- Install the headliner. Refer to «Headliner Replacement (Envoy XUV)»(ref-200370-S26489428372005102000000) or «Headliner Replacement (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL)»(ref-200370-S17161678162005102000000) or «Headliner Replacement (Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier)»(ref-200370-S15575918612005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Remove the inflatable restraint instrument panel (IP) module. Refer to «Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement»(ref-200374-S33564291902005102000000) in SIR.
- Disconnect the antenna cable (2) from the radio extension cable.
- Remove the cable attachments (1) from the IP support bars.
- Reach through the IP compartment to disconnect the antenna cable from the radio.
- Remove the radio extension cable from the vehicle.
- Position the radio extension cable to the IP support bars as previously noted.
- Reach through the IP compartment to connect the antenna cable to the radio.
- Install the radio extension cable attachments (1) to the IP support bars.
- Connect the antenna cable (2) to the radio extension cable.
- Install the inflatable restraint module. Refer to «Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement»(ref-200374-S33564291902005102000000) in SIR.
- Open the instrument panel (I/P) compartment to a full down position.
- Disconnect the radio antenna cable (2) from the radio extension cable.
- Remove the lower rear portion of the wheelhouse panel. Refer to «Wheelhouse Panel Replacement»(ref-200376-S21305362242005102000000) in Body Front End.
- Reach up behind the wheelhouse panel and remove the antenna cable and grommet assembly from the cowl opening (1).
- Pass the end of the radio antenna cable assembly through the cowl opening (1).
- Remove the antenna mast. Refer to «Fixed Antenna Mast Replacement»(ref-200368-S03669725022005102000000) .
- Open the hood.
- Remove the radio antenna cable assembly retaining screws.
- Pass the antenna cable and grommet assembly through the fender opening.
- Remove the radio antenna cable assembly from the vehicle.
- Install the radio antenna cable assembly to the vehicle.
- Pass the antenna cable and grommet assembly through the fender opening.
- Install the radio antenna cable assembly retaining screws. Tighten: Tighten the radio antenna cable assembly screws to 2.8 N.m (25 lb in).
- Close the hood.
- Install the antenna mast. Refer to «Fixed Antenna Mast Replacement»(ref-200368-S03669725022005102000000) .
- Reach up behind the wheelhouse panel and pass the end of the radio antenna cable assembly through the cowl opening (1).
- Install the antenna cable grommet assembly to the cowl opening.
- Install the wheelhouse panel. Refer to «Wheelhouse Panel Replacement»(ref-200376-S21305362242005102000000) in Body Front End.
- Install the radio antenna cable (2) to the radio extension cable.
- Close the I/P compartment.
- Remove the right windshield garnish molding. Refer to «Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar»(ref-200370-S32969954022005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Remove the instrument panel (I/P) trim pad. Refer to «Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper»(ref-200362-S37371374902005102000000) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
- Remove the right sunshade and inboard retaining clip. Refer to «Sunshade Replacement»(ref-200370-S23887412352005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Lower the front portion of the headliner. Refer to «Headliner Replacement (Envoy XUV)»(ref-200370-S26489428372005102000000) or «Headliner Replacement (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL)»(ref-200370-S17161678162005102000000) or «Headliner Replacement (Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier)»(ref-200370-S15575918612005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the digital radio antenna assembly. Refer to «Antenna Replacement - Digital Radio»(ref-200368-S13371057942005102000000) .
- Remove the right front door sill plate. Refer to «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Front»(ref-200370-S28945979632005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Remove the coaxial cable from the right windshield pillar (1).
- Lower the right closeout insulator panel. Refer to «Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right»(ref-200362-S11353072362005102000000) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
- Disconnect the coaxial cable from the digital radio receiver.
- Remove the lower rose bud (2) from the cowl.
- Securely attach a mechanics wire to the end of the coaxial cable (3).
- The coaxial cable is routed through the cowl insulator access hole and positioned between the cowl and the I/P. In order to release the upper rose bud (1), grasp the coaxial cable near the bottom of the windshield and carefully pull upward.
- Leaving the mechanics wire routed behind the I/P, remove the mechanics wire from the coaxial cable.
- Remove the coaxial cable from the vehicle.
- Securely attach the mechanics wire already routed behind the I/P to the end of the coaxial cable (3).
- If equipped, carefully remove the rose bud (1) from the coaxial cable.
- Grasp and gently pull the mechanics wire through the cowl insulator, routing the coaxial cable behind the I/P.
- Attach the lower rose bud (2) to the cowl.
- Connect the coaxial cable to the digital radio receiver.
- Attach the coaxial cable to the right windshield pillar (1).
- Install the right front door sill plate. Refer to «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Front»(ref-200370-S28945979632005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Install the right closeout insulator panel. Refer to «Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right»(ref-200362-S11353072362005102000000) Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
- Connect the electrical connectors to the digital radio antenna assembly. Refer to «Antenna Replacement - Digital Radio»(ref-200368-S13371057942005102000000) .
- Install the headliner. Refer to «Headliner Replacement (Envoy XUV)»(ref-200370-S26489428372005102000000) or «Headliner Replacement (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL)»(ref-200370-S17161678162005102000000) or «Headliner Replacement (Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier)»(ref-200370-S15575918612005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Install the right sunshade and inboard retaining clip. Refer to «Sunshade Replacement»(ref-200370-S23887412352005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Install the I/P trim pad. Refer to «Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper»(ref-200362-S37371374902005102000000) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
- Install the right windshield garnish molding. Refer to «Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar»(ref-200370-S32969954022005102000000) in Interior Trim.
- Remove the front door trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door»(ref-200367-S10102597372005102000000) in Doors.
- Disconnect the speaker electrical connector.
- Remove the 3 speaker retaining bolts.
- Remove the speaker from the door.
- Install the speaker to the door.
- Install the 3 speaker retaining bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
- Connect the speaker electrical connector.
- Install the front door trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door»(ref-200367-S10102597372005102000000) in Doors.
- Remove the trim pad. Refer to «Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper»(ref-200362-S37371374902005102000000) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
- Remove the 3 screws that retain the speaker to the instrument panel (IP) substrate.
- Disconnect the speaker electrical connector.
- Remove the speaker from the IP.
- Install the speaker to the IP.
- Connect the speaker electrical connector.
- Install the 3 speaker retaining screws. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
- Install the trim pad. Refer to «Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper»(ref-200362-S37371374902005102000000) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
- Remove the rear door trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Side Rear Door»(ref-200367-S21522101202005102000000) in Doors.
- Remove the water deflector. Refer to «Water Deflector Replacement - Rear Door»(ref-200367-S20026903312005102000000) in Doors.
- Disconnect the speaker electrical connector.
- Remove the 3 speaker retaining bolts.
- Remove the speaker from the door.
- Install the speaker to the door.
- Install the 3 speaker retaining bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
- Connect the speaker electrical connector.
- Install the water deflector. Refer to «Water Deflector Replacement - Rear Door»(ref-200367-S20026903312005102000000) in Doors.
- Install the rear door trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Side Rear Door»(ref-200367-S21522101202005102000000) in Doors.
- Remove the video display assembly. Refer to «Video Display Replacement»(ref-200368-S18636681582005102000000) .
- Remove the two rear overhead console carrier screws (1).
- Remove the front bracket retaining bolts.
- Carefully pull down on the rearward edge of the headliner in order to expose the rear bracket retaining bolt.
- Remove the rear retaining bolt.
- Carefully remove the bracket from the vehicle through the headliner opening.
- Carefully install the bracket to the vehicle through the headliner opening, ensuring the locating tabs (1) are fully seated to the roof bow.
- Partially install the front bracket retaining bolts.
- Carefully pull down on the rearward edge of the headliner in order to expose the rear bolt installation area.
- Partially install the rear bracket retaining bolt.
- Fully seat the retaining bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (88 lb in).
- Install the two rear overhead console carrier screws (1). Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1.2 N.m (10 lb in).
- Install the video display assembly. Refer to «Video Display Replacement»(ref-200368-S18636681582005102000000) .
- Verify the video display for proper operation.
- Close the video display screen.
- Install the bolt cover bezel.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
- Using a plastic flat bladed tool, carefully remove the bolt cover bezel.
- Fully loosen the two rear retaining bolts. The bolts will remain attached to the video assembly.
- In order to expose the two front retaining bolts, adjust the video display screen to a full open position.
- Fully loosen the front retaining bolts. The bolts will remain attached to the video assembly.
- Close the video display screen.
- Slowly lower the front of the video assembly to release the retaining fastener (3).
- Support the video assembly and disconnect the electrical connector (2).
- Adjust the video assembly in order to release the T-hook (1) from the video player bracket.
- Remove the video assembly from the vehicle.
- Install the video assembly to the vehicle.
- Lift the and adjust the video assembly in order to install the T-hook (1) to the video player bracket. Ensure the T-hook is fully seated to the bracket.
- Support the front of the video assembly and connect the video assembly electrical connector (2).
- Align the retaining fastener (3) to the corresponding hole in the video player bracket.
- Raise the front of the video assembly to install the retaining fastener (3).
- Partially install the rear retaining bolts.
- Adjust the video display screen to a full open position.
- Partially install the front retaining bolts.
- Fully seat the retaining bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
- Verify the video display for proper operation.
- Close the video display screen.
- Install the bolt cover bezel.
Battery Replacement
To change the batteries, do the following
- Remove the battery compartment door located on the bottom of the remote control.
- Remove the batteries from the compartment.
- Replace the 2 AA-size batteries in the proper orientation.
If the remote control is to be stored for a long period of time, remove the batteries and keep them in a cool, dry place. Do not store the remote control in heat or direct sunlight. This could damage the remote control and would not be covered by your vehicle warranty. Keep the remote control stored in a cool, dry place.
To change the batteries, do the following
- Loosen the screw on the battery compartment door located on the LEFT headphone earpiece.
- Remove the batteries from the compartment.
- Replace the 2 AAA-size batteries in the proper orientation.
If the headphones are to be stored for a long period of time, remove the batteries and keep them in a cool, dry place. Do not store the headphones in heat or direct sunlight. This could damage the headphones and would not be covered by your vehicle warranty. Keep the headphones stored in a cool, dry place.
