Wiper/washer System: Other Geo Tracker I

Washer Pump Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition on. Using a test light, probe Yellow/Blue wire at combination switch connector. (Scheme 3) If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, repair open in Yellow/Blue wire between fuse block and combination switch.
  2. Activate washer switch. Using a test light, check Blue/Black wire at combination switch connector. If test light comes on, go to next test. If test light does not come on, replace combination switch.
  3. Turn ignition to lock. Unplug washer pump connector (located at right front of engine compartment, under washer reservoir). Using a test light, probe Blue/Black wire at washer pump connector. Turn ignition on. Activate washer switch. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, repair open in Blue/Black wire between combination switch and washer pump.
  4. Using a DVOM, check resistance between Black wire at washer pump connector and ground. If resistance is greater than 1.0 ohm, repair Black wire between washer pump connector and ground. If resistance is less than 1.0 ohm, replace washer pump.

COMBINATION SWITCH TERMINAL ID (1)

Wipers Inoperative; Switch In Any Position

  1. Turn ignition on. Using a test light, probe Yellow/Blue wire at combination switch. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, repair open in Yellow/Blue between fuse block and combination switch.
  2. Probe Blue wire at combination switch with test light. Set wiper/washer switch in "LO" position. If test light comes on, check for open in Black wire between wiper motor and ground. Repair wire as necessary. If wire is okay, replace windshield wiper motor. If test light does not come on, replace combination switch.

Wipers Sweep, But Do Not Return To Park Position

  1. Turn ignition on. Manually move wipers out of park position. Using test light, probe Blue wire at wiper motor connector. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, check for open in Yellow/Blue wire between wiper motor and ground. Repair wire as necessary. If wire is okay, replace wiper motor.
  2. With wipers up out of park position, probe Blue/White wire with a test light. If test light comes on, check for open in Blue/White wire between combination switch and wiper motor. Repair wire as necessary. If test light does not come on, replace combination switch.

Wipers Operate At High Speed; Switch In LO Position

  1. Unplug wiper motor connector. Turn ignition on. Set wiper/washer switch to LO position. Using test light, probe Blue wire at wiper motor connector. If test light comes on, go to step 3). If test light does not come on, go to next step.
  2. Using a DVOM, check Blue wire for resistance between combination switch and wiper motor. If resistance is greater than 3.0 ohms, repair Blue wire. If resistance is 3.0 ohms or less, replace wiper motor.
  3. Turn wiper switch off. Using a DVOM, check for short to battery voltage in Blue wire between combination switch and wiper motor. If wire is okay, replace combination switch. If test light does not come on, replace wiper motor.

Wipers Operate At Lo Speed; Switch In HI Position

  1. Turn ignition on. Set wiper/washer switch to HI position. Using a test light, check Blue/Red wire at wiper motor connector. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, replace wiper motor.
  2. Turn ignition to lock. Unplug combination switch connector C1. (Scheme 3) Using a test light, probe Blue and Blue/Red wire (switch side) terminal. If test light does not come on, replace combination switch. If test light comes on, repair short to battery voltage in Blue/Red wire between combination switch and wiper motor.

Wipers Operate; Wiper Switch Turned Off

  1. Turn ignition on. Using test light, probe Blue/Red wire at wiper motor connector. If test light does not come on, go to next step. If test light comes on, check for short to battery voltage in Blue/Red wire between combination switch and wiper motor. Repair wire as necessary. If wire is okay, replace combination switch.
  2. Turn ignition to lock. Unplug wiper motor connector. Check Blue wire at wiper motor connector. If test light comes on, replace combination switch. If test light does not come on replace wiper motor.

Note. The following procedure is used only on vehicles equipped with pulse (intermittent) wiper system.

Wipers Inoperative; Switch Set To INT

Using a test light, connect Black wire at combination switch to battery voltage. If test light comes on, replace combination switch. If test light does not come on, repair open in Black wire between wiper motor and ground.

Wiper & Washer Pump Inoperative

Turn ignition on. Using a test light, check Yellow/Blue wire at wiper/washer switch connector (located in instrument panel to right of steering column). If test light comes on, replace switch. If test light does not come on, repair open in Yellow/Blue wire between fuse block and rear wiper switch.

Turn ignition on. Using a test light, check Black/Green wire at washer pump connector. If test light comes on, check for open in Black wire between washer pump and ground. Repair wire as necessary. If wire is okay, replace washer pump. If test light does not come on, check for open in Black/Green wire. If wire is okay, replace wiper switch.

Wiper Motor Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition and rear wiper on. Using a test light, probe Yellow/Blue wire at wiper/washer switch connector. If lest light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, repair open in Yellow/Blue wire between fuse block and wiper/washer switch.
  2. Using a test light, probe Orange wire at wiper motor connector. If test light comes on, check for open in Black wire between wiper motor and ground. Repair wire as necessary. If wire is okay, replace wiper motor. If test light does not come on, check for open in Orange wire between wiper/washer switch and wiper motor. If wire is okay, replace wiper/washer switch.

Wiper Does Not Return To Park Position

  1. Turn ignition on. Using a test light, probe Yellow wire at wiper motor connector. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, repair open in Yellow/Blue wire between fuse block and wiper motor.
  2. Manually move wiper from park position. Using a test light, probe Blue/Green wire at wiper/washer switch connector. If test light comes on, replace wiper/washer switch. If test light does not come on, check for open in Blue/Green wire between wiper/washer switch and motor. Repair wire as necessary. If wire is okay, replace wiper motor.

Wiper Motor Runs Continuously; Ignition On

  1. Unplug wiper/washer switch connector (located in instrument panel to right of steering column). If motor stops, go to next step. If motor does not stop, Repair short circuit to voltage in Orange wire between wiper/washer switch and wiper motor.
  2. Unplug wiper/washer switch connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between terminal No. 2 (Orange wire) and terminal No. 5 (Yellow/Blue wire) at wiper/washer switch. If resistance is less than infinite, replace wiper/washer switch. If resistance is infinite, replace wiper motor.
