Airflow is discharged from upper instrument panel outlets.
Bi-Level
Airflow is discharged from the upper instrument panel outlets and the floor outlets. Airflow from floor outlets is warmer than airflow from the upper instrument panel outlets.
Defrost
Airflow is discharged from defrost outlets. A small amount is delivered to the side windows.
Floor
Airflow is discharged from floor outlets.
Floor/Defrost
Airflow is discharged to both the floor and defrost outlets.
FRESH/RECIRCULATION CONTROL LEVER
The fresh/recirculation control lever mechanically operates a cable which opens or closes the fresh/recirculation mode door to fresh (outside) air. When lever is in recirculation position, outside air is shut off and air from inside passenger compartment is recirculated through the blower motor to selected air outlets. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2).

BLOWER SPEED CONTROL LEVER/KNOB
The blower speed control lever/knob operates blower motor at one of 4 speeds.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL LEVER/KNOB
When the temperature control lever/knob is moved to full hot position, the air mix door opens fully, allowing all airflow through heater core to selected outlets. (Scheme 2) In full cold position, the air mix door closes off airflow through the heater core. Adjusting the air temperature control lever allows more or less air to by-pass heater core.
HEATER CONTROL CABLES
Place temperature control lever/knob in hot position. Place airflow control lever to defrost position. Place air intake control lever to fresh position. Ensure control levers/knobs do not move while attaching appropriate cable in position with cable clip.
HEATER CONTROL LEVERS/KNOBS
Check for smooth operation of each control lever/knob on control panel. If binding occurs, ensure cable routing is correct. Check for foreign material in associated mode door.
BLOWER MOTOR DOES NOT OPERATE IN LOW POSITION
- Move blower speed selector switch to low position. Using a test light, backprobe blower speed selector switch connector between terminal No. 4 (Pink/Black wire) and ground. If test light does not light, replace blower speed selector switch.
- If test light lights, use a test light to backprobe blower motor resistor connector between terminal No. 4 (Pink/Black wire) and ground. If test light does not light, repair open circuit in Pink/Black wire between blower speed selector switch and blower motor resistor. If test light lights, replace blower motor resistor.
BLOWER MOTOR DOES NOT OPERATE IN MEDIUM-LOW POSITION
- Move blower speed selector switch to medium-low position. Using a test light, backprobe blower speed selector switch connector between terminal No. 5 (Pink/Blue wire) and ground. If test light does not light, replace blower speed selector switch.
- If test light lights, use a test light to backprobe blower motor resistor connector between terminal No. 3 (Pink/Blue wire) and ground. If test light does not light, repair open circuit in Pink/Blue wire between blower speed selector switch and blower motor resistor. If test light lights, replace blower motor resistor.
BLOWER MOTOR DOES NOT OPERATE IN MEDIUM-HIGH POSITION
- Move blower speed selector switch to medium-high position. Using a test light, backprobe blower speed selector switch connector between terminal No. 6 (Pink/Green wire) and ground. If test light does not light, replace blower speed selector switch.
- If test light lights, use a test light to backprobe blower motor resistor connector between terminal No. 1 (Pink/Green wire) and ground. If test light does not light, repair open circuit in Pink/Green wire between blower speed selector switch and blower motor resistor. If test light lights, replace blower motor resistor.
BLOWER MOTOR DOES NOT OPERATE IN HIGH POSITION
Move blower speed selector switch to high position. Using a test light, backprobe blower speed selector switch connector between terminal No. 3 (Pink wire) and ground. If test light lights, repair open circuit in blower speed selector Pink wire. If test light does not light, replace blower speed selector switch.
BLOWER MOTOR OPERATES ONLY IN HIGH POSITION
- Move blower speed selector switch to high position. Using a test light, backprobe blower motor resistor connector between terminal No. 2 (Pink wire) and ground. If test light does not light, repair open circuit in blower motor resistor Pink wire.
- If test light lights, move blower speed selector switch to low position. Using a test light, backprobe blower speed selector switch connector between terminal No. 4 (Pink/Black wire) and ground. If test light does not light, replace blower speed selector switch. If test light lights, replace blower motor resistor.
BLOWER MOTOR DOES NOT OPERATE AT ANY SPEED
- Turn ignition on. Using a test light, backprobe blower speed selector switch connector between terminal No. 1 (Light Green wire) and ground. If test light does not light, repair open circuit in Light Green wire between fuse block and blower speed selector switch.
- If test light lights, move blower speed selector switch to high position. Use a test light to backprobe blower speed selector switch between terminal No. 3 (Pink wire) and ground. If test light does not light, replace blower speed selector switch.
- If test light lights, use a test light to backprobe blower motor connector between terminal No. 2 (Pink wire) and ground. If test light does not light, repair open circuit in Pink wire between blower motor and blower speed selector switch.
- If test light lights, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Using an ohmmeter, backprobe blower motor connector between terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 3 ohms, repair open circuit in blower motor Black ground wire. If resistance is less than 3 ohms, replace blower motor.
BLOWER MOTOR OPERATES IN OFF POSITION
- Disconnect blower speed selector switch connector. If blower motor stops, replace blower speed selector switch. If blower motor does not stop, disconnect blower motor resistor connector.
- If blower motor stops, repair short to voltage in Pink/Black wire, Pink/Blue wire or Pink/Green wire between blower speed selector switch and blower motor resistor.
- If blower motor does not stop, repair short to voltage in Pink wire between blower speed selector switch, blower motor resistor and blower motor.
