INSPECTION

Note. Perform all testing procedures with engine at normal operating temperature.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect electrical connector from TP sensor. Loosen TP sensor retaining screws.
  2. To check proper TP sensor operation, using ohmmeter, check resistance or continuity with selected feeler gauge thickness between throttle lever and stop screw. see scheme 3and (Scheme 1). See «THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR RESISTANCE»(ref-19465-S20214819422001010200000) table.
  3. If TP sensor resistances are not as specified, adjust or replace TP sensor. See procedure under «ADJUSTMENTS»(ref-19465-S39594422402001010200000). Once properly adjusted, reconnect electrical connector.

THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR RESISTANCE

Note. Perform all testing procedures with engine at normal operating temperature.

CAUTIONDO NOT use throttle stop screw to adjust throttle position sensor.
  1. Disconnect electrical connector from TP sensor. Loosen TP sensor retaining screws. Insert a.016" (.40 mm) feeler gauge between throttle lever and stop screw. see scheme 3 Disconnect throttle opener vacuum hose from throttle opener solenoid vacuum valve and apply 16-20 in. Hg vacuum to throttle opener. Connect ohmmeter between TP sensor terminals No. 1 and 4. (Scheme 1)
  2. Rotate throttle position sensor fully clockwise, then slowly rotate counterclockwise until ohmmeter indicates 12-18 ohms. Hold TP sensor and tighten retaining screws to 31 INCH lbs. (3.5 N.m). Remove feeler gauge. Ohmmeter should still indicate continuity.
  3. Insert a.035" (.89 mm) feeler gauge between throttle lever and stop screw. Ohmmeter should indicate no continuity. Remove feeler gauge. Reconnect electrical connector, and reconnect throttle opener vacuum hose to throttle opener solenoid vacuum valve.
