Removal
- Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE. Mark and remove hood. Disconnect battery cables.
- Drain cooling system. Drain engine oil and transaxle oil. Remove cooling fan, radiator and air cleaner assembly. Disconnect necessary electrical connections, vacuum hoses, fuel lines and coolant hoses at engine and transaxle.
- Disconnect accelerator cable at throttle body. Raise and support vehicle. On M/T models, disconnect clutch cable and shift control rod from transaxle. Disconnect exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold.
- On A/T models, disconnect oil cooler lines and control cables at transaxle. Disconnect torque rod bracket from transaxle.
- On all models, disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle. Remove front wheels. Remove staked area from axle shaft nut at hub assembly. Remove nut and washer from axle shafts.
- Remove ball joint-to-steering knuckle bolt. Separate ball joint from steering knuckle. Using 2 screwdrivers, pry axle shafts from transaxle case. Separate axle shafts from steering knuckle assemblies, and remove axle shafts.
- Support engine using hoist. Disconnect engine and transaxle mounts. Remove engine and transaxle assembly.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS TABLE at the end of this article. Adjust all control cables. Adjust fluid levels.
- Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE. Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Remove air cleaner assembly.
- Disconnect necessary electrical connections, coolant hoses, fuel lines and vacuum hoses from throttle body and intake manifold. Disconnect control cables from throttle body. Remove intake manifold bolts, intake manifold and gasket.
To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS TABLE at the end of this article.
