Inspection and Verification

Note. The FEM and instrument cluster must be reconfigured upon installation. Refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION .

  1. Verify the customer concern by operating the horn.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.   3. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle: check that the program card is correctly installed. check the connections to the vehicle. check the ignition switch position.
  4. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool manual.
  5. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS TEST. If the diagnostic tool responds with: CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-204591) . NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for instrument cluster, refer to «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER»(ref-204577) . NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for FEM, refer to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULE»(ref-204602) . SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out self-test diagnostics for the instrument cluster and FEM.
  6. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX»(ref-204577-S24567488312005111300000) or go to «FEM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX»(ref-204577-S15896828362005111300000) to continue diagnostics.
  7. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to «JACKING & HOISTING»(ref-232595-S06496072622006051700000) .
  2. Remove the valence panel. Remove the bolts.
  3. Remove the air deflector shield.
  4. Remove the horn. Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the bolt.
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Remove the air bag module. Refer to «AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS»(ref-150664) .
  2. Remove the horn switch pad. Remove the bolts.
  3. Remove the horn switch. Remove the springs. Disconnect the steering wheel controls.
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
