Removal and Installation
- Depower the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). For additional information, refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(ref-439813) article.
- Place the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position and remove the ignition key.
- Remove the steering column shrouds. For additional information, refer to «STEERING COLUMN SHROUD»(ref-439817-S11812970052011120900000) in this service information.
- Disconnect the electrical harness pin-type retainers.
- Disconnect the following electrical connectors: Ignition switch Multifunction switch Clockspring Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) Steering wheel rotation sensor
- Remove and discard the steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt and disconnect the shaft from the steering column. To install, tighten the new bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Remove the 4 nuts and the steering column. To install, tighten to 18 Nm (159 lb-in).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

ITEM DESCRIPTION
Note. Do not allow the steering column to rotate while the steering column shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring may result. If there is evidence that the steering column shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING & LIFTING»(ref-439777) article.
- Place the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
- Remove and discard the lower steering column shaft-to-upper steering column shaft bolt. To install, tighten the new bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Remove the 2 dash boot bearing nuts. To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- Remove and discard the steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt. To install, tighten the new bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Collapse the steering column shaft slightly and remove the upper steering column shaft.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Collapse the upper steering column shaft slightly and disconnect it from the lower steering column shaft.
- Remove the lower steering column shaft.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Remove and discard the steering column coupling-to-steering gear bolt. To install, tighten the new bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Remove the 2 dash boot bearing nuts. To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- Collapse the upper steering column shaft slightly and disconnect the lower steering column shaft from the steering column coupling.
- Remove the steering column coupling.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

ITEM DESCRIPTION
- Remove the LH scuff plate trim panel and the LH A-pillar lower trim panel. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR TRIM & ORNAMENTATION»(ref-439819) article.
- Remove the steering column opening trim panel. For additional information, refer to the exploded view in «INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE»(ref-439810) article.
- Remove the 4 bolts and the steering column opening trim panel reinforcement. To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- Remove the 3 lower steering column shroud screws, then separate and remove the upper and lower shrouds.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
