Removal and Installation

Note. The brake shift interlock actuator is not serviced separately. If a new brake shift interlock actuator is required, install a new transmission selector lever assembly.

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING & LIFTING»(ref-256445).
  2. Remove the selector lever cable from the selector lever. (Scheme 9): Removing Selector Lever Cable From Selector Lever
  3. Remove the selector lever cable from the bracket and discard the clip. (Scheme 10): Locating Selector Lever Cable From Bracket And Discard Clip
  4. Remove the selector lever cable from the transmission manual lever. (Scheme 11): Locating Shift Cable Eyelet At Manual Control Lever
  5. Remove the 2 transmission selector lever cable bracket bolts from the transmission and remove the bracket. (Scheme 12): Locating Transmission Shift Cable Bracket Bolts

  1. Install the selector lever cable bracket and install the 2 bolts. Tighten to 28 Nm (20 lb-ft). (Scheme 13): Locating Transmission Shift Cable Bracket Bolts
  2. Install the selector lever cable eyelet onto the transmission manual lever. (Scheme 14): Locating Selector Lever Cable Eyelet Onto Transmission Manual Lever NOTE: It is necessary to install a new plastic clip prior to installation.
  3. Install the selector lever cable into the selector lever cable bracket. (Scheme 15): Locating Selector Lever Cable Into Selector Lever Cable Bracket
  4. Install the selector lever cable onto the selector lever and lock the selector lever cable adjustment lock. (Scheme 16): Installing Selector Lever Cable Onto Selector Lever And Lock Selector Lever Cable Adjustment Lock

  3. Remove the selector lever cable from the bracket and discard the clip. (Scheme 19): Locating Selector Lever Cable From Bracket And Discard Clip
  4. Remove the center console selector lever trim. (Scheme 20): Locating Center Console Selector Lever Trim
  5. Remove the 2 screws and the center console top finish panel. (Scheme 21): Locating Screws And Center Console Top Finish Panel NOTE: Passenger side center console kick panel shown, driver side similar.
  6. Remove the driver and passenger center console kick panels. (Scheme 22): Locating Driver And Passenger Center Console Kick Panels
  7. Remove the 2 screws in the bottom of the console bin. (Scheme 23): Locating Screws In Bottom Of Console Bin
  8. Remove the 2 screws from the front of the console. (Scheme 24): Locating Screws From Front Of Console
  9. Lift up the console, disconnect the power point electrical connector and remove the console. (Scheme 25): Locating Power Point Electrical Connector
  10. Disconnect the selector lever electrical connector. (Scheme 26): Locating Selector Lever Electrical Connector
  11. Remove the 2 nuts and the 2 screws and carefully lift the transmission selector lever assembly from the vehicle. (Scheme 27): Locating Transmission Selector Lever Nuts And Screws (1 Of 2)

  1. Position the transmission selector lever assembly in the vehicle and install the 2 nuts and the 2 screws. Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). (Scheme 28): Locating Transmission Selector Lever Nuts And Screws (2 Of 2)
  2. Connect the selector lever electrical connector. (Scheme 29): Locating Selector Lever Electrical Connector
  3. Connect the power point electrical connector and install the console. (Scheme 30): Locating Power Point Electrical Connector
  4. Install the 2 screws into the front of the console. (Scheme 31): Locating Screws Into Front Of Console
  5. Install the 2 screws into the bottom of the console bin. (Scheme 32): Locating Screws Into Bottom Of Console Bin
  6. Install the driver and passenger side center console kick panels. (Scheme 33): Locating Driver And Passenger Side Center Console Kick Panels
  7. Install the center console top finish panel and the 2 screws. (Scheme 34): Locating Center Console Top Finish Panel And Screws
  8. Install the center console selector lever trim. (Scheme 35): Locating Center Console Selector Lever Trim NOTE: It is necessary to install a new plastic clip prior to installation.
  9. Install the selector lever cable into the bracket. (Scheme 36): Locating Selector Lever Cable Into Bracket
  10. Install the selector lever cable onto the selector lever and lock the selector lever cable adjustment lock. (Scheme 37): Installing Selector Lever Cable Onto Selector Lever
  11. Verify the selector lever cable is adjusted correctly. For additional information, refer to «SELECTOR LEVER CABLE ADJUSTMENT»(ref-256509-S12921517212007061500000) in this article.

Note. The transmission control (TC) switch is not serviced separately. If a new TC switch is required, install a new transmission selector knob assembly. For additional information, refer to SELECTOR LEVER KNOB in this article.

  1. Remove the transmission selector lever assembly. For additional information, refer to «SELECTOR LEVER»(ref-256509-S36257402542007061500000) in this article.
  2. With the selector knob pulled to the rear, remove the screw from the knob base. (Scheme 39): Locating Screw From Knob Base
  3. Slide the knob up and off the selector shaft. Disconnect the transmission control switch electrical connector.

  1. Connect the transmission control switch electrical connector.
  2. For early production vehicles, WRAP the transmission control switch wire around the selector shaft channel to keep the harness from contacting the sliding mechanisms. (Scheme 40): Locating Transmission Control Switch Electrical Connector
  3. For late production vehicles, FOLD the transmission control switch wire into the selector shaft channel to keep the harness from contacting the sliding mechanisms.
  4. Align the selector lever knob base screw hole with the selector shaft and install the screw. (Scheme 41): Locating Selector Lever Knob Base Screw Hole
  5. Install the transmission selector lever assembly in the vehicle. For additional information, refer to «SELECTOR LEVER»(ref-256509-S36257402542007061500000) in this article.
