Battery Saver

Note. Time-out is 30 seconds if the vehicle is in Factory or Transport mode.

The BCM provides automatic shut-off of the courtesy and demand lamps after a time-out period when the ignition is OFF. A timer in the BCM starts when

  1. the ignition transitions to OFF.
  2. any door or liftgate/luggage compartment lid becomes ajar.
  3. an UNLOCK button of the RKE transmitter is pressed.
  4. a door is unlocked using a key.
  5. the door lock switch is pressed.

When 10 minutes (30 minutes for demand lamps) have elapsed, the BCM automatically shuts off voltage to the lamps. The timer restarts (voltage is restored if the BCM is in battery saver mode) if

  1. the ignition transitions out of OFF.
  2. any door or liftgate/luggage compartment lid becomes ajar.
  3. the UNLOCK button of the RKE transmitter is pressed.
  4. a door is unlocked using a key.
  5. the door lock switch is pressed.

Courtesy Lamps

The BCM controls the courtesy lighting functions and timing by monitoring inputs from the following

  1. Door ajar switches
  2. Ignition state
  3. RKE system

For vehicles equipped with puddle lamps, the DDM and the PDM provide voltage to the left and right puddle lamps based on messaged input from the BCM over the communication network.

The BCM sends a voltage signal to each door or liftgate ajar switch. When the doors or liftgate are closed, the circuit is switched to ground and the voltage is pulled low, indicating closed doors.

For vehicles equipped with door modules, the DDM and the PDM provides ground for the door ajar switch.

The BCM monitors the ignition state and inputs from the RKE system to determine when to energize the interior light relay. When the interior light relay is energized, voltage is provided to the interior lamps. The BCM controls the ground side of the courtesy lamps for the illuminated entry and exit features.

For keyless entry, the BCM monitors input from the RKE transmitter (directly from the integrated keyhead transmitters (IKTs on vehicles without intelligent access (IA)) or from the RFA module (on vehicles with intelligent access (IA)) to determine when to activate/deactivate the illuminated entry and exit functions.

The interior courtesy lamps can also be activated from the courtesy lamp switch mounted on the front/ driver interior lamp. The front interior lamp (vehicles without a roof opening panel) or the driver interior lamp (vehicles with a roof opening panel) controls the courtesy lamp function of the remaining interior lamp(s). When the courtesy lamp button is pressed on the front/driver interior lamp, the courtesy lamp function for all the lamps is turned on/off. If any door is open, the BCM command overrides the function of the front/driver courtesy lamp switch and activates the courtesy lamps.

Illuminated Entry and Exit

The illuminated entry and exit features provide temporary illumination of the parking lamps, the dimmable backlighting, the ambient backlighting and the courtesy lamps. Refer to the chart for additional information.

Note. An arbitrator (software programming) within the BCM determines which actions take precedence over others (for example, an open door keeps the courtesy lamps on even when a command to lock the doors is received).

Theater Lighting

The theater lighting option ramps-up the courtesy lamps over 0.7 seconds when courtesy lamp is requested. The theater lighting feature ramps-down the courtesy lamps over 1.7 seconds when interior lighting deactivation is requested by any feature other than the panic alarm or battery saver.

Demand Lamps

When the BCM is in not in battery saver mode, the interior light relay is energized to provide voltage to the demand lamps.

Ambient Lighting

The ambient lighting subsystem consists of the ambient lighting switch, dimmer control and the ambient lighting module (all integrated into the overhead console), and the Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) located within the floor console cup holders, front door panels and under the instrument panel footwell areas. The ambient lighting is operational when the ignition is in any state other than OFF (the exception is when it is used in conjunction with the illuminated entry/exit features), the headlamps are on and the outside ambient light level is low. The ambient lighting switch cycles the Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) through 7 different color combinations. The brightness is changed using the dimmer control which allows the Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) to be turned off as well.

The right search mode control switch activates all ambient light areas and all dome lamps. The search mode control switch needs to be pressed again to deactivate the dome lamps and return to the previously selected ambient light color.

The ambient lighting control module controls the color and light intensity. The ambient lighting module receives information from the BCM through a LIN circuit for illuminated entry/exit functions. The ambient lighting module provides voltage to all of the Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). A secondary LIN circuit is routed from the ambient lighting module to all of the Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). Each LED changes color and intensity based on the input from the ambient lighting module.

As an additional function, the ambient lighting illuminates red on any open door.

Door Ajar Switch

The door ajar switches (ground switches) each receive a voltage signal from the BCM on independent circuits. When the door is closed, the door ajar switch is closed, routing the signal to ground. When the door is opened, the door ajar switch opens.

Ground is provided to the door ajar switches from the door modules.

Interior Lamp

All of the interior lamps receive voltage from the interior lamp relay (integrated into the BCM) when the battery saver feature is not active. This is used by each interior lamp to power the LED within it.

The front interior lamp uses a private communication protocol to command the rear lamps on or off.

Repair: corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins) damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes: CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to: «BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)»(ref-515973-S25219396702012120400000) . No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. CLEAR the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

  1. J1: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LIGHT EMITTING DIODE (LED) Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Inoperative Ambient Lighting LED. Ignition ON. Turn the parking lamps on. Measure: OVERHEAD CONSOLE Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C9046-1 - CUPHOLDER Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C3349-1 - LH FRONT FOOTWELL Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2056-1 - RH FRONT FOOTWELL Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2057-1 - LH FRONT DOOR MAP POCKET Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C572-1 - LH FRONT DOOR HANDLE Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C556-1 - RH FRONT DOOR MAP POCKET Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C672-1 - RH FRONT DOOR HANDLE Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C620-1 - Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? Yes: GO to J2 No: REPAIR the LED voltage supply circuit in question.

J2 CHECK THE LIGHT EMITTING DIODE (LED) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Measure: OVERHEAD CONSOLE Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C9046-1 C9046-3 CUPHOLDER Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C3349-1 C3349-3 LH FRONT FOOTWELL Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2056-1 C2056-3 RH FRONT FOOTWELL Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2057-1 C2057-3 LH FRONT DOOR MAP POCKET Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C572-1 C572-3 LH FRONT DOOR HANDLE Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C556-1 C556-3 RH FRONT DOOR MAP POCKET Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C672-1 C672-3 RH FRONT DOOR HANDLE Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C620-1 C620-3 Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? Yes: GO to J3 No: REPAIR the ground circuit in question.
  3. J3 CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING LOCAL INTERCONNECT NETWORK (LIN) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Ignition OFF. Turn the parking lamps off. Disconnect: Overhead Console C912. Measure: OVERHEAD CONSOLE Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C9046-2 ohms C912-15 CUPHOLDER Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C3349-2 ohms C912-15 LH FRONT FOOTWELL Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2056-2 ohms C912-15 RH FRONT FOOTWELL Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2057-2 ohms C912-15 LH FRONT DOOR MAP POCKET Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C572-2 ohms C912-15 LH FRONT DOOR HANDLE Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C556-2 ohms C912-15 RH FRONT DOOR MAP POCKET Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C672-2 ohms C912-15 RH FRONT DOOR HANDLE Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C620-2 ohms C912-15 Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? Yes: INSTALL a new ambient lighting LED in question. No: REPAIR the circuit.
