Inspection and Verification
- Verify the customer concern.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage. - If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
- If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM: Check the VCM connection to the vehicle. Check the scan tool connection to the VCM. Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-357141) article, No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no communication with the scan tool.
- If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle: Verify the ignition key is in the ON position. Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle. Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-357141) article to diagnose no response from the PCM.
- Carry out the network test. If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-357141) article. If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
- Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the SJB.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to DTC Charts. For all other DTCs, refer to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-357142) article.
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to «Symptom Chart»(ref-357186-S13179725842010030800000) .

- A1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE DEMAND LIGHTING Operate the demand lighting function on the interior lamp. Does the interior lamp illuminate? YES : Go to A2 . NO : REPAIR circuit GD133 (BK) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- A2 CHECK CIRCUIT VLN33 (GY/VT) FOR VOLTAGE Disconnect: Interior Lamp C931 Open any door. Measure the voltage between the interior lamp C931-2, circuit VLN33 (GY/VT), harness side and ground Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? YES : Go to A3 . NO : VERIFY the SJB fuse 9 (15A) is OK. If OK INSTALL a new interior lamp. REFER to «Interior Lamp»(ref-357186-S08337337282010030800000) .
- A3 CHECK CIRCUIT VLN33 (GY/VT) FOR AN OPEN Connect: Interior Lamp C931 Key in OFF position. Disconnect: SJB C2280a NOTE: If the fuse fails, repair circuit VLN33 (GY/VT) for a short to ground. Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the SJB C2280f-9, circuit VLN33 (GY/VT), harness side and battery positive. Do the courtesy lamps illuminate? YES : REMOVE the jumper wire. VERIFY the SJB fuse 9 (15A) is OK. If OK, go to A4 . NO : REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR the circuit. RUN the on-demand self-test (required to clear certain DTCs). CORRECT any unresolved DTCs. CLEAR all DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? YES : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-357142) article. TEST the system for normal operation. NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. RUN the on-demand self-test (required to clear certain DTCs). CORRECT any unresolved DTCs. CLEAR all DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
Pinpoint Test B: The Luggage Compartment Lamp Is Inoperative

- B1 CHECK THE DEMAND LAMP OPERATION Check the operation of the map lamps. Do the map lamps operate correctly? YES : For vehicles equipped with electronically released latch, go to B2 . For vehicles not equipped with electronically released latch, go to B3 . NO : Go to «Pinpoint Test E»(ref-357186-S06872059972010030800000) .
- B2 CHECK THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID LATCH OPERATION (ELECTRONICALLY RELEASED LATCH ONLY) Check the operation of the luggage compartment lid latch. Does the luggage compartment lid latch operate correctly? YES : Go to B3 . NO : REFER to «HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS»(ref-357177) article.
- B3 CHECK THE DECKLID AJAR PID Key in ON position. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: SJB DataLogger Monitor the SJB luggage compartment ajar switch PID (DECKLID) while opening and closing the decklid. Does the decklid ajar PID agree with the decklid positions? YES : Go to B4 . NO : Go to B7 .
- B4 CHECK CIRCUIT CLN09 (YE/GN) FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lamp C428 Measure the voltage between the luggage compartment lamp C428-1, circuit CLN09 (YE/GN), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? YES : Go to B5 . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- B5 CHECK CIRCUIT CLN13 (WH/BU) FOR CORRECT OPERATION Measure the resistance between the luggage compartment lamp C428-2, circuit CLN13 (WH/BU), harness side and ground with the luggage compartment lid open. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the luggage compartment lid open? YES : INSTALL a new luggage compartment lamp assembly. TEST the system for normal operation. NO : Go to B6 .
- B6 CHECK CIRCUIT CLN13 (WH/BU) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lid Latch C430 Measure the resistance between the luggage compartment lamp C428-2, circuit CLN13 (WH/BU), harness side and the luggage compartment lid latch C430-2, circuit CLN13 (WH/BU), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : INSTALL a new luggage compartment lid latch. REFER to «HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS»(ref-357177) article. TEST the system for normal operation. NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- B7 CHECK CIRCUIT CPL58 (GY/OG) FOR VOLTAGE Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lid Latch C430 Measure the voltage between the luggage compartment lamp C430-1, circuit CPL58 (GY/OG), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? YES : Go to B9 . NO : Go to B8 .
- B8 CHECK CIRCUIT CPL58 (GY/OG) FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Disconnect: SJB C2280c Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280c-16, circuit CPL58 (GY/OG), harness side and the luggage compartment lid latch C430-1, circuit CPL58 (GY/OG), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : Go to B10 . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- B9 CHECK CIRCUIT GD110 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lid Latch C430 Measure the resistance between the luggage compartment lid latch C430-4, circuit GD110 (BK/WH), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : INSTALL a new luggage compartment lid latch. REFER to «HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS»(ref-357177) article. TEST the system for normal operation. NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- B10 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. - C1 CHECK THE SJB DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND THE ON-DEMAND SELF-TESTS Use the recorded results from the SJB continuous and on-demand self-test. Are any SJB DTCs recorded? YES : For DTCs B1320, B1328, B1336, or B1572, go to C5 . For DTC B1688, go to C2 . For DTC B2A35, go to C4 . For all other DTCs, REFER to «DTC Charts»(ref-357186-S30490753102010030800000) . NO : Go to C8 .
- C2 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Instrument Panel Dimmer Switch C2065 Are the courtesy lamps still illuminated? YES : Go to C3 . NO : INSTALL a new instrument panel dimmer switch. REFER to «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND PANEL ILLUMINATION»(ref-357195) article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- C3 CHECK CIRCUIT CLN28 (BN/BU) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect: SJB C2280b Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280b-51, circuit CLN28 (BN/BU), harness side and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? YES : Go to C8 . NO : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- C4 CHECK CIRCUIT VLN33 (GY/VT) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Key in OFF position. Disconnect: SJB C2280a Key in ON position. Observe the courtesy lamps. Are the courtesy lamps still illuminated? YES : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. NO : Go to C8 .
- C5 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR INPUT CIRCUITS FOR VOLTAGE Measure the voltage between the suspect door ajar switch, harness side and ground as follows: Location Connector-Pin Circuit LF C525-5 CPL26 (GN/VT) RF C609-5 CPL31 (WH) LR C704-5 CPL39 (YE) RR C804-5 CPL39 (YE) Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? YES : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-357142) article. TEST the system for normal operation. NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.

- D2 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Key in OFF position. Disconnect: SJB C2280c Measure the resistance between the suspect door ajar switch, harness side and ground as follows: Location Connector-Pin Circuit LF C525-5 CPL26 (GN/VT) RF C609-5 CPL31 (WH) LR C704-5 CPL39 (YE) RR C804-5 CPL39 (YE) Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? - E1 CHECK THE INTERIOR LAMP OPERATION Check the operation of the interior lamp with any door open. Is the interior lamp on with any door open? YES : Go to E2 . NO : Go to «Pinpoint Test A»(ref-357186-S38888382102010030800000) .
- E2 CHECK CIRCUIT CLN09 (YE/GN) FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Disconnect: SJB C2280d NOTE: If the fuse fails, repair circuit CLN09 (YE/GN) for a short to ground. Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the SJB C2280d-21, circuit CLN09 (YE/GN), harness side and battery positive. Do the demand lamps illuminate when switched on? YES : LEAVE the jumper wire connected. VERIFY the SJB fuse 25 (10A) is OK. If OK, go to E3 . NO : REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E3 CHECK CIRCUIT CLN09 (YE/GN) FOR VOLTAGE Disconnect: Interior Lamp C931 Measure the voltage between the interior lamp C931-3, circuit CLN09 (YE/GN), harness side and ground Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? YES : REMOVE the jumper wire. Go to E4 . NO : REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new interior lamp. REFER to «Interior Lamp»(ref-357186-S08337337282010030800000) .
- E4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? YES : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-357142) article. TEST the system for normal operation. NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
Pinpoint Test F: The Battery Saver Does Not Deactivate After Timeout

- F1 CHECK THE SJB IGNITION SWITCH PID Key in ON position. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: SJB DataLogger Monitor the SJB ignition switch PIDs (IGN_O_ECU, IGN_A_ECU, IGN_R_ECU and IGN_S_ECU) while rotating the ignition switch through all positions. Does the ignition switch PID agree with the ignition switch positions? YES : Go to F2 . NO : REFER to «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES»(ref-357145) article.
- F2 CHECK CIRCUIT CLN09 (YE/GN) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Key in OFF position. Disconnect: SJB C2280d Key in ON position. Turn any demand lamp on. Does the demand lamp turn on? YES : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. NO : Go to F3 .
- F3 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? YES : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-357142) article. TEST the system for normal operation. NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.

- G1 CHECK CIRCUIT CBB23 (BN/YE)/CBX07 (GN/RD) FOR AN OPEN (TO AMBIENT LIGHTING MODULE) Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Ambient Lighting Module C3251 For early build vehicles, place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position. Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the ambient lighting module C3251-1, circuit CBX07 (GN/RD), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? YES : Go to G2 . NO : VERIFY the BJB fuse 23 (3A) (early build vehicles) or SJB fuse 41 (15A) (late build vehicles) is OK, If OK, REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- G2 CHECK THE INPUT FROM CIRCUIT CLN54 (BN/YE) While pressing and releasing the ambient lighting switch, measure the voltage between the ambient lighting module C3251-2, circuit CLN54 (BN/YE), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the switch pressed and 0 volts with the switch released? YES : Go to G3 . NO : If voltage is always present, go to G4 . If no voltage is present, go to G5 .
- G3 CHECK CIRCUIT GD908 (BK)/GD138 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN For early build vehicles, place the headlamp switch in the OFF position. Key in OFF position. Measure the resistance between the ambient lighting module C3251-8, circuit GD908 (BK), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : Go to G7 . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- G4 CHECK CIRCUIT CLN12 (YE)/CLN54 (BN/YE) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE For early build vehicles, place the headlamp switch in the OFF position. Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Ambient Lighting Switch C280 Place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position. Measure the voltage between the ambient lighting module C3251-2, circuit CLN54 (BN/YE), harness side and ground. Is any voltage present? YES : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. NO : INSTALL a new ambient lighting switch. REFER to Passenger Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) Indicator in «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(ref-357180) article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- G5 CHECK CIRCUIT CBB23 (BN/YE) FOR AN OPEN (TO AMBIENT LIGHTING SWITCH) For early build vehicles, place the headlamp switch in the OFF position. Key in OFF position. Connect: Ambient Lighting Module C3251 Disconnect: Ambient Lighting Switch C280 For early build vehicles, place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position. Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the ambient lighting switch C280-4, circuit CBB23 (BN/YE), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? YES : Go to G6 . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- G6 CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING SWITCH Connect and remove a fused (3A) jumper wire between the ambient lighting switch C280-4, circuit CBB23 (BN/YE), harness side and the ambient lighting switch C280-5, circuit CLN12 (YE)/CLN54 (BN/YE), harness side. Do the ambient LEDs illuminate and cycle through a color change each time the jumper wire is connected and removed? YES : INSTALL a new ambient lighting switch. REFER to Passenger Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) Indicator in «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(ref-357180) article. TEST the system for normal operation. NO : REPAIR circuit CLN12 (YE)/CLN54 (BN/YE) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
- G7 CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING HARNESS For early build vehicles, place the headlamp switch in the OFF position. Key in OFF position. Check any of the diode circuits between the ambient lighting module, harness side as follows: Connector-Pin/Circuit Connector-Pin/Circuit C3251-5 CLN45 (GN) C3251-4 RLN44 (BN) C3251-6 CLN46 (BU) C3251-4 RLN44 (BN) C3251-7 CLN44 (OG) C3251-4 RLN44 (BN) Does the meter indicate the circuit is good? YES : Go to G8 . NO : REPAIR or INSTALL a new ambient lighting harness. TEST the system for normal operation.
- G8 CHECK FOR CORRECT AMBIENT LIGHTING MODULE OPERATION Disconnect the ambient lighting module connector. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect the ambient lighting module connector and make sure it seats correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? YES : INSTALL a new ambient lighting module. REFER to «Ambient Lighting Module»(ref-357186-S11370994062010030800000) . TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern is still present, INSTALL the original ambient lighting module. INSTALL a new ambient lighting harness. TEST the system for normal operation. NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
Pinpoint Test H: The Ambient Lighting Does Not Operate Correctly - Does Not Cycle Through Color Variations

PINPOINT TEST H: THE AMBIENT LIGHTING DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY - DOES NOT CYCLE THROUGH ALL COLOR VARIATIONS
Note. Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- H1 CHECK THE INPUT FROM CIRCUIT CLN54 (BN/YE) Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Ambient Lighting Module C3251 For early build vehicles, place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position. Key in ON position. While pressing and releasing the ambient lighting switch, measure the voltage between the ambient lighting module C3251-2, circuit CLN54 (BN/YE), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the switch pressed and 0 volts with the switch released? YES : Go to H2 . NO : If voltage is always present, go to H3 . If no voltage is present, go to H4 .
- H2 CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING HARNESS For early build vehicles, place the headlamp switch in the OFF position. Key in OFF position. Check the diode circuits between the ambient lighting module, harness side as follows: Connector-Pin/Circuit Connector-Pin/Circuit C3251-5 CLN45 (GN) C3251-4 RLN44 (BN) C3251-6 CLN46 (BU) C3251-4 RLN44 (BN) C3251-7 CLN44 (OG) C3251-4 RLN44 (BN) Does the meter indicate good for each circuit check? YES : Go to H6 . NO : REPAIR or INSTALL a new ambient lighting harness. TEST the system for normal operation.
- H3 CHECK CIRCUIT CLN12 (YE)/CLN54 (BN/YE) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE For early build vehicles, place the headlamp switch in the OFF position. Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Ambient Lighting Switch C280 Place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position. Measure the voltage between the ambient lighting module C3251-2, circuit CLN54 (BN/YE), harness side and ground. Is any voltage present? YES : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. NO : INSTALL a new ambient lighting switch. REFER to Passenger Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) Indicator in «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(ref-357180) article. TEST the system for normal operation.

Monitor the instrument panel dimmable backlighting while rotating the instrument panel dimmer switch from full ON to full OFF. Does the dimmable backlighting intensity change with the instrument panel dimmer switch position? YES : Go to I2 . NO : REFER to «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND PANEL ILLUMINATION»(ref-357195) article.
- I2 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Instrument Panel Dimmer Switch C2065 Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the instrument panel dimmer switch C2065-2, circuit CLN28 (GN/BU), harness side and the instrument panel dimmer switch C2065-4, circuit CLN27 (WH/BN), harness side. Do the courtesy lamps illuminate? YES : REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new instrument panel dimmer switch. REFER to «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND PANEL ILLUMINATION»(ref-357195) article. TEST the system for normal operation. NO : REMOVE the jumper wire. Go to I3 .
- I3 CHECK CIRCUIT CLN28 (GN/BU) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: SJB C2280b Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280b-51, circuit CLN28 (GN/BU), harness side and the instrument panel dimmer switch C2065-2, circuit CLN28 (GN/BU), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : Go to I4 . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- I4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? YES : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-357142) article. TEST the system for normal operation. NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
