Principles of Operation
The roof opening panel assembly uses an integrated motor and module to operate the roof opening panel. The roof opening panel motor and module are installed new as an assembly. The roof opening panel is an electronically operated glass panel that can be opened, closed or tilted by operating the roof opening panel switch. Pressing the roof opening panel switch forward or rearward supplies a ground to the roof opening panel motor/module.
The roof opening panel also incorporates a bounce back feature. The bounce back feature is an automatic reversal of the roof opening panel motor if an obstruction is encountered during closing of the roof opening panel glass. The powertrain control module (PCM) sends a vehicle speed signal to the roof opening panel motor. The roof opening panel motor can then account for the vehicle speed and compensate how the roof opening panel glass bounces back while the vehicle is in motion.
Normal Operation
The roof opening panel motor is supplied voltage through circuit 15-AG12 (GN/BK) and 29-AG12 (OG/BK) when the ignition key is in the ACC or RUN position. The roof opening panel motor is grounded through circuit 31-AG12 (BK). The roof opening panel switch is supplied voltage through circuit 15-AG7 (GN/BU) when the ignition key is in the ACC or RUN position. The roof opening panel switch is grounded through circuit 31-AG7 (BK). When the roof opening panel switch is pressed it connects circuit 31-AG12 (BK) to circuit 31S-AG27 (BK/WH) for DOWN/OPEN or to circuit 31S-AG7 (BK/BU) for UP/CLOSE.

- A1 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE ROOF OPENING PANEL SWITCH Key in ON position. Check the operation of the roof opening panel switch lamp. Does the roof opening panel switch lamp illuminate? YES : Go to A2 . NO : VERIFY the central junction box (CJB) fuse 43 (15A) is OK. If OK, go to A6 .
- A2 CHECK CIRCUIT 29-AG12 (OG/BK) FOR VOLTAGE Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Central junction box (CJB) fuse 34 (20A) Disconnect: Roof Opening Panel Motor C9015 Connect: CJB fuse 34 (20A) Measure the voltage between the roof opening panel motor C9015-1, circuit 29-AG12 (OG/BK), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? YES : Go to A3 . NO : VERIFY the CJB fuse 34 (20A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A3 CHECK CIRCUIT 31S-AG7 (BK/BU) FOR AN OPEN While pressing the roof opening panel control switch to the DOWN/OPEN position, measure the resistance between the roof opening panel motor C9015-8, circuit 31S-AG7 (BK/BU), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 100 ohms? YES : Go to A4 . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A4 CHECK CIRCUIT 31S-AG27 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN While pressing the roof opening panel control switch to the UP/CLOSE position, measure the resistance between the roof opening panel motor C9015-9, circuit 31S-AG27 (BK/WH), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 100 ohms? YES : Go to A5 . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A5 CHECK CIRCUIT 31-AG12 (BK) FOR AN OPEN Measure the resistance between the roof opening panel motor C9015-10, circuit 31-AG12 (BK), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : INSTALL a new roof opening panel motor. REFER to «Roof Opening Panel Motor»(ref-278292-S18494843032008012400000) . TEST the system for normal operation. NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A6 CHECK CIRCUIT 15-AG7 (GN/BU) FOR VOLTAGE Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Roof Opening Panel Control Switch C9014 Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the roof opening panel control switch C9014-1, circuit 15-AG7 (GN/BU), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? YES : Go to A7 . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A7 CHECK CIRCUIT 31-AG7 (BK) FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Measure the resistance between the roof opening panel control switch C9014-4, circuit 31-AG7 (BK), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : Go to A8 . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A8 CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL SWITCH Carry out the «Roof Opening Panel Switch»(ref-278292-S07285001612008012400000) Component Test. Is the roof opening panel switch OK? YES : VERIFY the customer concern. NO : INSTALL a new roof opening panel switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
The powertrain control module (PCM) sends a vehicle speed signal on circuit 8-RE22 (WH/VT). The roof opening panel motor receives the vehicle speed signal from the PCM on circuit 8-GB8 (WH/BU).
