Engine Cooling System: Removal & Installation Ford Focus I facelift

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING AND LIFTING»(ref-278237) article.
  2. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding»(ref-278250-S28128496882008012400000) .
  3. Remove the 2 bolts and the accessory drive belt splash shield. To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  4. Using the hex feature, rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt from the A/C compressor.
  5. Remove the 2 nuts and position aside the power steering tube. To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  6. Remove the cooling fan motor and shroud. For additional information, refer to «Cooling Fan Motor and Shroud»(ref-278250-S11231878772008012400000) .
  7. Remove the 2 bolts, the stud bolt and position aside the A/C compressor. To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
  8. Release the spring-style clamps and disconnect the radiator and heater hoses from the thermostat housing.
  9. Remove the 3 bolts, thermostat housing and thermostat as an assembly. To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  11. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding»(ref-278250-S28128496882008012400000) .
  1. Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to «ACCESSORY DRIVE»(ref-278264) article.
  2. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding»(ref-278250-S28128496882008012400000) .
  3. Remove the 3 coolant pump pulley bolts and the pulley. To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
  4. Remove the 3 coolant pump retaining bolts and the coolant pump. To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  6. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding»(ref-278250-S28128496882008012400000) .

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING AND LIFTING»(ref-278237) article.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-278287) article.
  3. Disconnect the dual electric cooling fan electrical connectors.
  4. Lift and remove the cooling fan motors and shroud from the retainer brackets and lower from the vehicle.
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly turning the pressure relief cap one half turn counterclockwise. When the pressure is released, remove the pressure relief cap.
  2. Using hose clamps pliers, clamp the radiator-to-degas bottle hose.
  3. Using a suitable suction device, siphon the coolant from the degas bottle.
  4. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the degas bottle.
  5. Remove the degas bottle bolt. To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  6. Remove the degas bottle. Lift the degas bottle out of the retainer.
  7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  8. Fill the degas bottle. Refer to «Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding»(ref-278250-S28128496882008012400000) for the recommended coolant mixture and fill level.

  2. Disconnect the block heater electrical connector.
  3. Remove the block heater. To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
